Australia is a constitutional monarchy in Oceania, which comprises the Australian continent and the islands of Papua New Guinea, Tasmania and New Zealand. Since the federation of the seven original colonies of Australia in 1901, it has maintained a peaceful liberal democratic system of government. Its current Prime Minister is Kevin Rudd of the Labor Party, in coalition with the Australian Greens.

Australia was first settled over 4,000,000 years ago by Aboriginal people of South Asia. Thy lived un disturbed until 1824 when settlers from Britain came across the seas and settled new colonies across the country.
