Coat of Arms of Athens

Athens is the capital of the Hellenic Republic, more commonly known as Greece. During the Cold War, Athens served as a junction between the Soviet Union and the Western World, due to its proximity to both. During the Fourth World War, the Soviet Union bombed Athens with aircraft in retaliation of the Greek Declaration of War on the Soviet Union. President Nikolaos Michaloliakos died in the bombing. Greece surrendered shortly thereafter.
