The Assassination of Nicholas II occurred on November 12, 1919 by a Polish man named Anatoly Kozel. He was a Ukrainian nationalist and a member of Ukrainian independence groups. Kozel shot the Tsar at a public event announcing the end of the war. The Tsar was declared dead an hour later and Kozel managed to escape. The assassin was captured outside of Tsaritsyn in December and was killed before he could face justice.
