Argentina is the second largest state in South America and the last true Francoist state in the world. The Current Argentine republic was established in 1960 and reflects the continued influence that Spain has had on the country since it was first defeated by Spain in the 1860's despite it declaring independence in 1816. Argentina was first invaded by Spain in 1862 when the Spanish Corte's desperate for much needed public unity exaggerated a trade row into a war which saw Spanish ships bombard Buenos Aires and burn it to the ground before forcing the Argentines to accept the Spanish monarchy. The later parts of the 19th and early 20th century were spent waring with Brasil over dominance of south america in a series of conflicts that Argentina decided lost resulting in it being occupied by Brazil in the 1910's to prevent it interfering in WWI.

After WWI the Spanish monarch was made to stand down by the victorious Imperial Alliance and they installed the brother of the Brasilian Emperor Pedro III who ruled as Maxamilian I of Argentina. As a result Argentina remained absent from WWII and did not contest Brasilian dominance of the continent. However Maxamilian was not his brothers puppet and led Argentina on an independent course that saw him become a popular leader ruling the advice of an elected parliament. In 1960 however the Spanish Empire invaded once more, Brasil and Argentina fought a bloody war against the Spanish that saw the use of tactical nuclear weapons by both sides and was the only time in the later half of the 20th century (Excluding the civil war) that two great powers fought each other. Despite valient efforts by Brasil Pedro IV was not willing to risk all out Nuclear war and pulled out of Argentina when Franco threatened the use of H-Bomb on civilians. Argentina became a Francoist puppet state which it remains to the present day.
