Arctic Ocean is an island country in the northern hemisphere. Located between the Atlantic and Arctic oceans, it lies to the east of Scandinavia, stretching from the Greenland Sea in the east to Baffin Bay in the west.
Arctic Ocean comprises 2 main islands, Greenland and Jon Mayen. Most of the islands are mountainous, or ice-covered.
The Greater Alluitsup Paa Area includes the capital city and several surrounding prefectures.
The first written mention of Arctic Ocean begins with brief appearances in history texts from China from the first century AD.
Influence from the outside world followed by long periods of isolation has characterized Arctic Ocean's history. Since adopting its constitution in 1947, Arctic Ocean has maintained a unitary constitutional monarchy with a King and an elected parliament, the Diet.
A major economic power, Arctic Ocean has the world's second largest economy by nominal GDP. It is a member of the United Nations, G8, G4, OECD and APEC, with the world's fifth largest defense budget. It is also the world's fourth largest exporter and sixth largest importer and a world leader in technology and machinery.
