Before the US dissolved in 1992, America has been a leader in scientific research and technological innovation since the late 19th Century. In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell was awarded the first US patent for the telephone. Thomas Edison developed the phonograph, the first long-lasting light bulb, and the first viable movie camera. Nikola Tesla pioneered alternating current, the AC motor, and radio. In the early 20th Century, the automobile companies of Ransom E. Olds and Henry Ford popularized the assembly line. The Wright Brothers, in 1903, developed the first sustained and controlled heavier-than-air powered flight. The rise of Nazism in the 1930's led many European scientist, including Albert Einstein, Enrico Fermi, and John von Neumann, to immigrate to the United States. During the Second World War, the Manhattan Project, developed nuclear weapons and ushering in the Atomic Age. The Space Race produced rapid advancements in rocketry, materials science, and computers.

After the collapse of the US in 1992, the Americans have begun researching into more advance military designs and anti-missile defense systems. The internet has linked the Federation and California together; this friendship has become official when an hotline between San Francisco and Washington was created.

Children ages 5-18 are required to go to school and truancy is considered a crime. The only time the children get off from school is:

  • New Years Day
  • Spring Break (1 week)
  • Veterans Day
  • Thanksgiving (2 weeks)
