Alternative History talk:POD

From Alternative History

Hmmmm... And what about past? Imagine continuum like that: different history -> POD -> same history -> POD -> different history. My English is not so good, so I am asking some else to correct definition of POD. --millosh (talk) 22:08, 28 May 2005 (UTC)

a POD (point of departure) is the reason why an history became different: same history -> POD -> different history. The reverse, call "Convergence" is when an event that happen during the "different history" period mirror something in *our* timeline.
Some Alternate timelines will sometime have a short term divergence followed by more or less the same history as *here* and its effect are only felt further down the road.--Marcpasquin 23:30, 28 May 2005 (UTC)

OK. As I have a plan to translate my pseudo-history into English and as I want to adapt it according to rules of the house, I just need explanation is it possible to adaptate it... My pseudo-history talks about distant past and future; a lot of the past, presend and near future are the same (and I don't intend to make a lot of timelines, stories etc. about OTL). (It can be said that it is SF, but my first goal is to make clear facts about the past and the future world.) So, I am asking is it possible to say something like: (1) humans came on Earth from Mars around 70.000 BC -> (2) POC -> (3) OTL -> (4) around 2100 some events would be happened, so there is POD in the future -> (4) different history? --millosh (talk) 20:04, 29 May 2005 (UTC)

From what I understand from your description, this isn't realy alternate history but rather the type of science-fiction known as "secret history". --Marcpasquin 23:46, 29 May 2005 (UTC)

Hm. OK. I am asking for another Wikicities. Sorry for making mass with Serbian SF pseudo-history. --millosh (talk) 18:30, 30 May 2005 (UTC)

1997 President Gary added. (yes, it's even though I said 1999 in my summary comment. There are other "ripples" in the Timeline in 1999.)

Can stories about Star Wars PODs be written since it occured "a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away"? RandomNerd 17:51, December 4, 2007

No it can't but nice try--Marcpasquin 01:29, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
