Proposed title guidelines:
For anything likely to occur in multiple althists, for example, nations, the title should be in the format Name (Timeline), where timeline refers to the name of the althist in question. For example, United States of America (Rebellion of 61) refers to the United States of America in the Rebellion of 61 timeline.
- An alternative would be to create a "pseudo-namespace" for each timeline, so all Rebellion of '61 related content would start with the prefix 61: (like 61:Article title). Angela 14:49, 27 Jan 2005 (PST)
- I've decided to go with full names, as I think it looks better
Why is it that, when I edit, the ads are sometimes on top of the edit box? and how can I fix it? Nik42
- Well, whatever the problem was, it seems to have been fixed now. Nik42 20:49, 17 Feb 2005 (GMT)
The link that is used to close "Content" boxes seems to be broken. In its place is an "undefined" link at the bottom, rather than the "close" link at the top. Is someone addressing this? Nhprman 04:13, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
(note: I see the above issue was fixed very quickly by someone.) Nhprman 05:13, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
New problem: The "remember me" button doesn't seem to work very well on the sign-in page. It may (or may not) remember my user name, but in any case, it NEVER remembers the password. This is not like the main Wikipedia page, which remembers both. Can this be addressed? I keep editing without my user name. It looks odd. Nhprman 05:13, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Editing others' althists
Is there any policy/consensus againts editing alternate histories originated by other users? After some hours of browsing, I haven't seen any instances of collaborative alternate-historiography. -- MSchmahl 19:59, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
- I've always assumed that editing others' TL's are simply NOT done, out of respect (though some might argue that Wikipedia philosophy is to edit articles mercilessly, regardless. I'd like to hear more on this.) Speaking for myself, any suggestions I've had or comments I've made have been done on Talk pages. However, if someone set up a collaborative AltHist, that would be quite interesting, so long as the rules are understood by all. I've seen stories online in which one person added one sentence or one chapter. That would certainly work with a timeline. Nhprman 03:28, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- The etiquette here is that the original author owns the articles of his timeline and no one else should change them. Outside contributions are made by offering suggestions in the discussions tab associated with the article.
- When I first started posting here I didn't know the "rules" and made additional pages to two different timelines and the original authors have let them stay. But I have also seen some authors become very upset at even very small changes to their TL.
- I originally tried to make the "See Paris and Die" TL open to anyone who wanted to contribute but the do-not-touch culture seems to be ingrained here and I only got suggestions via the discussion tab as usual. I still think "Open Time Lines" could be cool and could result in larger, more interesting, and still feasible timelines. --AirshipArmada 22:26, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- I still like the idea of an Open Time Line where everone can contribute. So I just created Washington Shot at Murdering Town! and have declared it Open.--AirshipArmada 20:26, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
- This looks like a very clever POD and TL. I'll be participating in this experiment! Nhprman 05:02, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] How to make maps
How would any of you recommend making maps? Please Help SilverSword 01:27, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
- I've created quite a few maps. I often go to Wikimedia Commons[1], none of which is copyrighted stuff. If it's a very specific map, and you keep the boundaries and the look, it might be best to make a reference to the original creator on the page that you upload it to. (On the left of this page, you select "Upload file" to get to the upload screen.) If you want to alter borders or make a map more fancy, you'll need a pretty good paint program (like Photoshop or something). But if it's simple, I guess you can draw lines and erase them even using the simple program that comes with your computer. I hope this helps. --Riction 03:06, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
