Alphonse I

Alphonse I was King of France.

He was born on 12 September 1849 in London, son of Prince John Charles of Spain and France (later King John III of France) and his wife Archduchess Mary Beatrix of Austria-Este.

He became King of France upon the death of his nephew, James I, on 2 October 1931. Alphonse I died on 29 September 1936 in the Palace of Versailles, Paris.

He married on 26 April 1871 to Princess Mary das Neves of Portugal (1852-1941), daughter of King Michael I of Portugal and Princess Adelaide of Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg, having no issue.

The throne of France was inherited by Alphonse II (Alphonse XIII of Spain).
