The dominant Russian tsar of the 20th century, Tsar Aleksi the Great defeated both the Soviet Union and the Axis of Freedom (France, Italy and Japan), however, he died from complications due to chronic blood loss toward the end of the World War. He was succeeded by his son, Nicholas Romanov, who became Tsar Nicholas III. He is credited with restoring the flagging Russian Empire, allowing it to become the dominant force in Europe, with its ally Britain its only rival.
