Abraham Lincoln (February 12, 1809 – July 20, 1889) was the 19th President of the United States, serving from March 1869 until March 1877. Lincoln came to office in the aftermath of the War of Secession and became a dominate and powerful figure within the Republican and helped establish its dominance throughout the latter half of the 19th century.
