A New Emperor

In 942, a new emperor named Septimus Severus was crowned Caesar of Rome and Protector of the Frontier.

Septimus

In 945, Septimus began campaigning against the fact that Corsica and Sardinia had become hereditary. In 946, a new governor of Corsica was declared. In 948, in response to this,the governor of Sardinia declared himself Princeps of Sardinia et Corsica. In 950, the Sardinians killed him ending the revolt. In response, however, a referendum was held on a Senatorial Corsica. This was passed and Corsica et Sardinia was restored under the former Imperial Governor of Corsica. The rest of his reign was peaceful except toward the end.

Princeps Declared

In 970, the governor of Gaul declared himself Princeps of Gaul. Shortly after the Governor of Lusitania declared himself Princeps of Hispania. In 975, the governor of Germania Superior declared himself Princeps of Germania and made some small gains. In the South, the governor of Aegyptus declared himself Priceps of Egypt. In 978, Gaul and Hispania were returned. In 984, Germania and Egypt were reconquered.

Alexander

When Septimus died in 986, Alexander Severus was declared Caesar of Rome and Protector of the Frontier. His reign was also peaceful. In 997, Palmyra took Syria and declared itself Princeps of Syria. In 999, Queen Zenobia was killed and the Syrian Principate was returned. In 1000, the Empire celebrated Rome's 1000th Birthday. In 1016, the Governor of Asia declared himself Princeps of Anatolia. In 1020, Anatolia was reconquered and Alexander died.

Aurelian

In 1020 Aurelian was declared Caesar. He stepped down in 1023.
