Marcvs Avrelivs wanted a joint caesarship with his adopted brother but with him still in charge. After 44 years the Parthians finally managed to regroup and started attacking Mesopotamia. The majority of the Mesopotamian and Armienian legions went on a total rampage in Parthia. Still having the advantage of air and rail. By 920(167) most of the previous Parthian Empire became provinces of Rome, much its vast treasuries having to remainin within the province to rebuild and the rest of it sent into the Imperial treasury. This most successful campaign against Rome’s all time eastern rival permeated the Empire with a revived feeling of invincibility and strength. During the consolidation of the new eastern provinces, Aurelius also straightened out the southern Mesopotamian border. Having the Euphrates' full curve as the border was considered to be a disadvantage against Arab raids from the south.
Germanic tribes that were driven east decades ago, now calling themselves Ostrogoths began raiding frontiers in Germania and the Danube. Rome could defend against their raids but never gained any footholds in their lands.
Marcus’ remaining 13 years had few expansions and were very peaceful, just as Antoninus’ last years had been. He died in 933(180).
Commodvs was Marcus’ true son and this paternal succession was not habitual of the last many Caesars and this made grumblings. Commodvs was an emperor worse than Domitian in his running of the Empire, although he was not as cruel. He removed most of the Capitoline Games’ events in favour of lending more viewership to his favourite sport of Gladiators. He still allowed the CG to travel and was always present at each game. He proved so totally inept at running any form of government though that he fired good senators and politicians in favour of bad ones. The treasury was draining at a disparaging rate and only the few good senators left cared. In 943(190) another fire burned half of Rome down. Commodvs took this tragedy and used it in an attempt to immortalize himself. He renamed Rome the city, the empire, the senate, and the army all after himself. What an outrage. Both the Praetorian guard and the Senate had had enough of this horrendous travesty of a ruler and publically brought against him every violation of the law he did commit and several which were only rumors. He was put to death along with all his allies considered untrustworthy including Septimvs Severvs, Pertinax, and Didivs Iulianvs who had all made bids to buy the Emperorship from the Praetorians. The few remaining exiled and imprisoned good senators were brought back and for 5 full years the Senate and Praetorian guard governed the empire in a fragile agreement.
