The 5th Cavalry Regiment was a U.S. Cavalry unit formed near the end of the American Revolutionary War and fought up into World War II. It gained notoriety for the Stand of Nuestra Mission (Our Mission) where 490 men held off and successfully defeated roughly 9,000 Mexican troops on August 4, 1838.
