The Republic of Mongolia (Mongolian: ᠮᠤᠩᠭᠤᠯ ᠤᠯᠤᠰ, Monggol Ulus) is a country that spans both East Asia and parts of Central Asia. It borders Russia to the north and China and the Republic of Manchuria to the south. It covers the northern part of Manchuria, and neighbors Japan to the east. Northern Manchuria was given to Mongolia as a gift by the Soviet Union, after the Mongolians helped the Soviets drive Japanese forces out of there. It was also meant to give Mongolia coastal territory, to aid its seemingly barren and landlocked original. Mongolian is the official language, and it is written in the Mongolian script - which is a unique form of writing descended from Uyghur script and is written vertically. There is also a Mongolian Cyrillic alphabet that was implemented during the Soviet era, until the government of the People's Republic of Mongolia re-introduced Classical Mongolian in 1975 and made it the official writing system, as the Soviets were not culturally repressive towards Mongolians as a result of their aid against foreign enemies of the Soviet Union. It is still used by overseas Mongols living in Russia, who often-not learn it alongside Classical Mongolian, as well as Mongolians who lived during the days of Soviet rule.

Manchuria

The Republic of Manchuria (Manchu: ᠮ? ᠨᠵᡠ) is a country located south of Mongolia and north of China. It is the country that bears the name "Manchuria" as a sovereign state, free of foreign occupation.
