The 2011 NCAA Division I collegiate football season will begin play on Thursday, September 1, 2011 and conclude with the NCAA Rose Bowl National Championship Game on January 9, 2012. The season will progress through the regular season and bowl season, concluding with the annual Elite Series "premier" bowls. This will, as a result, be the first time in 10 years that the Rose Bowl is not presented on New Year's Day.

The defending national champions entering the season will be the Huron Highlanders. This will be the final season in which the Central Conference plays with 11 members, as Kansas State is joining the league in 2012 and the conference will form two six-team divisions.
