[edit] Republicans
With Clinton seeming vulnerable, a number of Republicans vied for the nomination. Among them were Indiana Senator Dan Quayle, Ohio Governor Bob Taft and Arizona Senator John McCain. McCain easily captured the nomination - as a moderate Republican he was seen as having the best chance to beat Clinton. For Vice President, the Republicans chose former Bush cabinet member Gary Bauer.
[edit] Democrats
President Clinton and Vice President Gephardt were re-nominated with little opposition.
