1950

Don't you or anyone else dare jump the gun with nukes. -MP

Hi, I bet you are all wondering where the 1951 turn is. Well, it's not coming until the algos are done. Seeing as how I am banned from doing them, you will have to wait. Anyone who complains about this decision will be banned for three days. I have no more patience for this. ~Edge

  • Republic of Britannia: Important infrastructural reforms were imposed in major cities, in order to bringforth to modernize the Republic. With growing Britannic influence, and the beginning of further colonization, the navy expanded rapidly using much of the Britannic expertise. Moreover, with the influx of new resources in form of lumber, labour and metals, the navy began expanding at a fast rate. More and more ships capable of crossing the Atlantic with ease were built. The Republic intended to restore the glorious naval culture of the Britannicpeople and plans to do so by expanding the navy. Trade routes were strengthened and the coal mines around Northumberland, Durham, North and South Wales, Yorkshire, Scotland, Lancashire, the East and West Midlands and Kent were exploited. With trade routes increasing and Britannia entering an era of peace and stability, the development of new trade and military ships began, with the navy developing new models of aircraft carriers, battleships, destroyers and submarines. However, utmost importance was funding the Britannic financial services and aerospace industry, with both being two of the largest in the world. Similarly, the Britannic pharmaceutical and automobile industry played an important role in the economy. The management of the Britannic economy followed a broadly laissez-faire approach. The Republic also attempted to increase Britannic control over the North Sea, as it sought to gain control over the North Sea oil and gas production. The Republic of Britannia issues their declaration of war upon the Kingdom of Mali, delivered on 26th January, at 08:00 AM and the Britannic Navy imposes a naval blockade upon the Malian Coast. Meanwhile, The President of Britannia, Clement Attlee visits the Commonwealth of Borealia to discuss the war, trade, and various other issues.
    • Britannic Eire: The economy and the navy are developed.
    • Britannic Africa: The African colonies expand by 5000 px.
    • The Shetlands were sold to Scandinavia over fifty years ago, if you want them, talk to Crim.
    • That is unfortunate to hear about. Hence, I've removed the content. -Qarth
    • Are you shitting me? Clement Attlee 550 years past the POD? Is Britannia even a republic? What happened to the military pseudo-monarchy? -Scraw
    • Britannia became a Republic after the Republican rebels took over 100 years earlier. -Nathan
    • Ah, OK. Also, that nation is not called Mali, it is the West Saharan Moroccan Rump State. Anyway, is Britannia involved in the World War or not?
    • 'The user CrimsonAssassin disapproved of me participating in WWII because I was a new player, and he feared that I may be a flashplayer. Hence, I can no longer participate in WWII, so I decided to invade the "West Saharan Moroccan Rump State".
      • Britannic - Britanny Diplomacy: The Republic of Britannia offers the Kingdom of Brittany to become an autonomous province of the Republic of Britannia. An affirmative response from the Kingdom of Brittany would safeguard the interests of both nations, promote trade and cooperation, and would secure the existence and sovereignty of Brittany from French aggression. Finally, it would lay foundation to an era of cooperation and understanding between the Republic of Britannia and the Kingdom of Brittany.
  • Ruthenia: The Ruthenians continue to expand airship service and infrastructure throughout Europe and Asia.
  • Czechia: Due to recent events, Czechia aids their fellow Slavic League members by signing a declaration of war with Germany. Czech forces build up at the German-Czech border, digging in and preparing for any German attack. The current president, Dezcri Bonar, begins a speech in the streets of Prague.
  • Greater Republic of Kashubia: The Republic continues its propaganda efforts and major purges against political dissidents and ethnic Croatians continue as military buildup and economic expansion continue. Military exercises are conducted across the nation and conscription begins to become a mandatory issue for citizens between the ages of 18 and 26, as military production is focused on equipment and military vehicles, particularly tanks and aircraft. Meanwhile, a meeting of generals of high rank in the Kashubian government begin planning in secrecy an invasion of Sorbia, and hoping to secure the nation, they begin stretching out plans to create advanced lightning war tactics, hoping to use them against the Sorbians to eventually annex it into Kashubia.
  • Korea: Korea continues to build up its military. Meanwhile, more Taoist and Buddhist temples are built. Taoism rises in popularity and gains more followers. Regular (read: not Imperial) Shinto gains a few more followers as well, mainly along the coastline in Southeastern Korea, particularly in Busan, Jejudo, Ulsan, and the coastal cities and coastal towns of Southern Gyeongsang Province. Mahayana Tao-Shintoism also continues to grow, and begins gaining followers from the areas where Shinto is growing, with some Shintoists switching to Mahayana Tao-Shintoism. The military in the colony of Haejagang (해자강) continues to be on high alert and continues to heavily patrol the Korean settlements. Meanwhile, industrialisation and modernisation continue in Korea (similar to OTL Japan's Meiji Restoration). Monarch Hyomyeong continues investing in technology and science. The Hyundai Motor Company continues to build more cars.
  • Poland: We continue to focus on our lumber industry. The medical community in Poland comes closer with the mumps vaccine, as funding continues to be devoted to the cause. We begin to take to the fields in search of natural gas, which will be used to develop sustainable automobile fuels. The drinking age is lowered to 18 as the rates of underage alcoholism were fairly high prior. Censorship is a prominent issue, with the newspaper regulations being loosened, allowing for more mature content in public documents. Additionally, we formally declare war on Germany, deploying one million troops into the country.
  • Borealia Flag 2 Union of Borealia: Both the economy and military improve across all the provinces of the Union. Oil produced from California, Alaska and foreign lands is imported to power plants throughout the nation, which in turn produce electrical energy for the entire continent. In order to save more energy, massive hydroelectric dams are constructed along the Navajo (OTL Colorado) and Amerigo (OTL Colombia) Rivers. The dingy industrial centers of major cities are done away with, and replaced with modern economic districts, filled with massive yet ornate skyscrapers based on the Neo-Gothic style. Even the capital building in New Vienna is renovated in this manner, with only Queen Frances Square remaining Baroque. Super manufacturing companies emerge from these cities and export their products worldwide. San Francisco and Mamterlliq continue to be the main centers of the gold and oil trade, as well as highly diverse communities bringing in many immigrants from East Asia. Large highways connect these cities together, bustling with transportation including automobiles, aircraft and electric trains. The cities are also filled with electrical lights based on fluorescent gas, as well as a thriving entertainment business such as movies and cartoons. The Romanesque party dies out and is replaced by the Gothic party, which for the time being stands as the leftist opponent of the Borealian school. Electrical machines for mass computation are developed, which take advantage of the smaller components created in recent years. Similar innovations are being implemented to create television. A practical nuclear generator is produced and used to power New Munich. The Borealian Air Force is established, with an aircraft carrier being constructed to take it out to sea. Research is being poured into the creation of rockets, with BARD performing experiments in the Andaman Islands. We continue to uphold the New Munich Declaration along with Algonquia, Reme, Mexaca, and Arcadia. The Pacific Protection Sphere, based around the Treaty of Midway, continues to promote peace in the Pacific and East Asia. A global trade network is established to promote Borealian companies in Arabia, Africa, Australia, and India. The World Trade Center in New Munich is built this year as a symbol of the world economy. The Indo-Pacific Trade Alliance greatly stengthens with the East African Trade Agreements, and thereby bringing in more of the Borealian navy into the Indian Ocean. Due to the massive aid from the other members of the Union of Borealia and Hesperia with Spain, the Fransicene Project goes into double efficiency. We estimate completing the project in 1951. The war continues in India.
    • Colony of Kinshasa: With the incorporated French colony continuing to expand its lumber and mining companies with cheap labor picked up from surrounding natives an organized government forms along with some small villages. The border expands inward 750 px.
    • Colony of North Antarctica: A small base is established on Antarctica's northernmost peninsula, inhabited for most of the year. The lighthouse is completed this year and becomes the tallest lighthouse in recorded history thus far.
  • Caliphate: We surrender to the Roman Empire. A puppet government is established aligned to the Romans, with the last of the old government being captured and killed. As a result we declare war on India.
  • Australia: We continue to improve trade on the Indian Ocean. This boosts the economy. We honour our alliance with Boreala. We continue are war against India. We continue to buy oil from them. With the population divided; half being Catholic and half being Muslim, we begin to try to make them live together and not divide them up. This way they could make Australia more united. We continue building hundreds of factories so we become the 'supermarket' of the world. We begin to build hundreds of houses to keep up with the demand of workers. We invite immigrants to come work in this nation's factories. We build are military and infrastructure.
    • The Grand Colony of Australian Antarctica: We build two new settlements - the New Geelong and Newcastle (whatever their names are in this ATL). We invite Australian and Boreala scientists to come work in all six station camps. The names of the camps are now; New Darwin, New Sydney, New Brisbane, New Perth, New Adelaide, New Darwin, New Canberra, New Wollongong, New Southport, Newcastle, New Geelong, New Hobart, New Augusta and New Melbourne (whatever the names are in this ATL).
  • France: Continues to invade Germany, and prepares to push beyond the Rhine river, with the goal of taking Berlin.

    • France reports that, due to pressure from its allies, it cannot. However, once this war is over, France shall use this as the basis peace treaty.
    • I would like to point out that it doesn't matter whether or not anyone pulls out of the war at this point. When the algos are eventually done, the war will probably be over by this year. -Nathan
  • Nederlanden: invasion continues, and our navy joins in the blockade of Germany. We ask to be included in the joint nuclear program.
    • Borealia accepts, and asks Spain to accept the Dutch research.
    • Spain does that.
  • Lombardy: Our military is continuing to increase due to technology becoming better. Factories still make weapons and vehicles for our military but they are not the mostly made items. With the increase of factories in the nation, more jobs are being created. The employment rate has continued to increase in the nation. Agriculture is the best industry in the nation. The railway industry is continuing to work on improving the tracks. Doctors are now continuing to use new technology to make people better. Cars are one of the only ways to get around these days besides using the train. Trade goes well with the Roman Empire. The navy continues to build ships for trade and for future tensions. We continue to build many buildings like hospitals, colleges and banks. We continue to send more troops and military vehicles into southern Germany. Our navy still holds Venice's ports.
  • Republic of China: We officially switch sides and make a declaration of war on India. Operation: Superpower begins, the invasion of India and we take control of the North of India. We improve technology to 1925 levels, which is pretty quick advances. We continue to work on our nuclear project, which is rubbish right now. We increase our military size to 250,000, far beyond the 100,000 limit imposed by the Treaty of Sanya.
  • The Republic: 35 years since its inception, modernization continues. Russian influences mix with local African cultures. We declare neutrality in the global war surrounding us, however, Republican mercenaries fight abroad, mainly against India.
  • Andea: Andea's economy finally shows signs of recovering as the new government comes in and begins to implement new systems such as Price Administration. The debate about the constitutionality of this is limited, as the focus remains on economic growth. The new policies focus on "Trickle Up" or Demand Side economics. New submachine guns and assault rifles are added to the Andean military. The navy remains large with several aircraft carriers. Further developments into this type of naval vessel continue, with more being added to the military. Population stands at 130 million. We adopt The Brazilian Rocket Program/desgin and begin producing them to use for the war in Europe. the war in Europe continues on, with conscription now becoming a law in Wartime Andea. The number of men the military is epected to have by the end of the year is six million, not including the intially military force of one million. An additional two million are drafted for the war effort. The war prompts advancements in the Aerospace and Science divisons of the governemnt, with developments in radar and sonar aiding Andea's war effort. Andea projects to have a nuclear weapon by late 1951 Andea sends a military force of 75,000 men to aid the Brazilians in New Rugia, and 25,000 men to aid Lombardy in Venice.. In order to end German arrogance and cease their backwater politics. With the defeat of the Caliphate, we ask that Rome aids against Germany, seeing as their ally Lombardy is invanding Venice. An additional force of 100,000 men is sent to New Rugia and 25,000 more to Lombardy.
    • Union of Sudafrica: Continues to make leaps and bounds. The nation is officially made into a commonwealth of Andea, and is making strives toward independence. The nation declares war on Germany, moblizing 500,000 men to aid the motherland.
  • Algonquia: After an Algonquian merchant ship is sunk in the Atlantic, public opinion swings increasingly against Germany and its allies and many call for a declaration of war. Bowing to the pressure, the government declares war on Germany and invades Neu Juist and Neu Norderney, mobilizing one million men, enacting conscription, and deploying its navy into the North Atlantic to blockade the German colonies. Uranium is sent to assist the Franciscene Project, and work begins on developing a domestic nuclear reactor.
    • Germany's Atlantic navy is stationed near Europe with orders to target warships. Unless the merchant ship in question was made to look like a warship, the odds of it being sunk by Germany is small to nil.
    • It must be said that he never mentioned it was a German ship. Also, the Lusitania was sunk while Germany was in the same position in WWI
  • Commonwealth Duchy of Oldenburg: Continues fighting the war with everything it has. Duke Wilhelm III continues making speeches channeling the great German war speeches of the past.
  • Commonwealth Lordship of Neu Norderney: Grows increasingly worried about Algonquia. A Home Guard is created. The expeditionary force in Europe continues fighting.
  • Spain, Algeria, Morocco, and Malaya continue the war. On 29 December, Spain detonates an atomic weapon in the Sahara Desert. Spain issues an ultimatum to India: surrender unconditionally, or meet severe devastation. The other stuff in related countries continues. Occupation of German West Africa colonies continues.
  • Russian Federation: New Gov takes over. This time it's a conservative gov with 68% votes. We join the war against the Germans because of the Germans being our main enemy and ask to join the anti-German alliance. The economy recovers from the civil war and new infrastructure is built all around Russia. With Tartary joining in the war against Germany our two nations come closer with common patriotic songs and influence is increased in Tartary. More than two million people are drafted to fight among the Anti-German alliance. We also ask the Anti-German alliance to recognize our claims in Tartary.
    • Tartary Federation: We join Russia in the war against the German Alliance. More than four million people are drafted to fight among the Anti-German alliance.
    • Don't think you own the Tatary anymore.
    • Well, Fritzmet told me that I am in a Union with them like EU and that they are kind of my clients. Proof: http://prntscr.com/81dorl http://prntscr.com/81doex http://prntscr.com/81doex. Anyway, can someone tell me about Russia? I mean their population, technological level and stuff because I am totally clueless about them. Are they even a Federation as someone told me or what are they? So that I could continue playing.
  • Reme: Declares war on Germany and launches an assault on New Brunswick (Sorry for being late, Edge).
  • Brazil: Due to the swift takeover of German colonies in the war, the tactic of attacking forces spearheaded by a dense concentration of armoured and motorized or mechanized infantry formations with close air support, breaks through the opponent's line of defense by short, fast, powerful attacks and then dislocating the defenders, using speed and surprise to encircle them, becomes known as Guerra Relâmpago, or “Lightning War”. The war leads to a giant surge in aerospace technology, as well as the development of mechanized vehicles, tanks, and other war time industries. With Africa now completely secured by Spanish and Brazilian forces, planes and rockets begin to be transferred to northern Africa, and bombing campaigns begin on German soil. Until German surrender, a near constant barrage of bombing begins. Chemical weapons are also used heavily along the French border to massive effectiveness, making it nearly impossible for the Germans to heavily advance on the western front. Development of a nuclear weapon continues, and is aided by the capture of Germany’s research in New Rugia. Construction and development of naval forces is heavily increased. 600,000 German citizens are killed with conventional weapons during bombing runs against major cities. Infrastructure and industry is specifically targeting, severely crippling Germany’s ability to rebuild weapons of war. Heavy patrolling of the Atlantic continues, led by Allied submarines and anti-submarine destroyers. An estimated 783 submarines are sunk, and 30,000 enemy sailors are killed have been killed. The naval campaign also targets German shipping, leading to the destruction of a large portion of the enemy merchant fleet. These patrols extend along the entire Brazilian coast, and along the Pacific, so that all of Borealia and Hesperia is monitored. With cooperation of our allies in the war, Germany in Europe is completely surrounded. Gibraltar is heavy fortified, as is the rest of North Africa, now that our forces have been transferred to the area. The last major port in the south under German control, Venice, is now completely surrounded. In order to guard against German use of the Suez Canal as well, Brazilian forces are transferred to Tanzania, particularly the port of Cândidovila along the coast. Brazilian naval forces patrol the coast of East Africa to prevent German movement in the region. In the east Brunei is completely captured, and Brazilian and Spanish forces begin to surround New Rugia completely. A strict blockade is issued with all ships being fired upon. All islands of New Rugia are also occupied, and used in some cases for bombing against the mainland. Brazilian forces begin a heavy bombardment of New Rugia, with F-2 rockets claiming some 600,000 casualties overall. Additionally bombers and chemical warfare take their toll on the population. Approximately 3.5 million soldiers are now in battle on New Rugia, or stationed throughout the Pacific. Five million soldiers are moved to North Africa, and launch an invasion of Germany through Lombardy. Nuclear research continues, and now doubles in speed thanks to the recent partnership with the nation of Andea. With Germany’s nuclear technology in New Rugia seized, the first functioning bomb is completed and tested in the Pacific Ocean. Mass production of the devices begin, and plans are made for them to be carried by carrier to New Rugia, and also to North Africa. Multiple nuclear weapons are now stationed in North Africa, capable of traveling the approximately 2000 miles to Hamburg, and capable of making it back to Allied France. Additionally nuclear weapons are now stationed within striking distance of New Rugia via carriers and facilities in the South Pacific. It is believed that Germany is unable of striking back, since any nuclear weapon would be trapped in the Pacific, and the known German facility in New Rugia is now under Brazilian control, and (as Guy said) too rugged for an airfield anyway.
  • United Nordic Republics
    • Republic of Denmark: Denmark capitalizes on the fall of Pskov. With money flowing into the Kattegat and out of Pskovian wallets, there is one undoubted ruler of the Baltic Seas now. Former Communists flee to Jutland since Denmark is a Socialist state. Prime Minister Albert Wagner celebrates the end of the Great War, condemning Communism as a perversion of state-sponsored welfare. He worries that the actions of France have harmed Socialist movements in Europe, setting them back decades. In the meantime, a new destroyer is added to the Danish navy. There are over 120 ships in total flying Danish colors. The Nordic Republican Air Force is expanded this year. The UNR begins experimenting with rockets this year.
    • Republic of Sweden: Sweden also sees profit in the fall of Pskov. With money flowing into the Kattegat and out of Pskovian wallets, there is one undoubted ruler of the Baltic Seas now. Telephone lines are built in Sweden as electricity is brought to the northern cities and towns of Sweden. The Republic of Sweden commissions two destroyers into the Swedish fleet. There are now over 200 ships flying Swedish colors. Sweden offers to westernize the Caliphate in exchange for oil.
    • Republic of Norway: Norway's navy guards the North Sea as it protects its interests from pirates and would-be assailants in the North Atlantic. The economy of Norway improves this year as trade floods into the nation, especially the city of Oslo, which rivals even Copenhagen as the trading capital of the Baltic. In the meantime, a frigate is added to the Norwegian naval assets. A plane is also built this year. An air force base is established outside Oslo.
    • Republic of Finland: The Republic of Finland trades heavily with Livonia this year while Helsinki, the easternmost trade capital of the Baltics, sees renovation. An air force base is established near Helsinki while three planes are built this year for the Finnish Air Force. In the meantime, the Finnish navy sees the addition of another frigate while a handful of older ships are retired this year. Several covered cruisers, which saw action in WWI, are scrapped this year and used for parts for newer ships. Finland offers the former Pskovian nations entrance into the UNR. (Mod RNG)
    • Commonwealth of Iceland: Iceland proposes the Helluland Proclamation, which would make Helluland an independent nation, albeit allied with the United Nordic Republics and their interests. Proponents of the Proclamation believe that the time for Helluland's independence has long since passed. Opponents believe that such an act would only encourage warmongering from Algonquia. The Helluland Proclamation does not pass. An air force base in Rejkyjavik is established this year. Iceland requests to purchase the German strip of territory in Greenland.
      • Brazilian Diplomacy: We ask to buy the Kongo.
      • Borealia: Offers double Brazil's offer to buy the Kongo.
      • How about this:
      • Kongo PM3

1951

I have decided to start the turn on this warning: No nukes until the algo is 100% done. ~Edge

  • Lombardy: Our military is continuing to increase due to technology becoming better. Factories still make weapons and vehicles for our military but they are not the mostly made items. We continue to build many buildings like hospitals, colleges and banks. We continue to send more troops and military vehicles into southern Germany. Our navy still holds Venice's ports.
  • Nederlanden: We transfer our research to the Spanish, and develop a bomber designed to carry nukes (this is before the nukes are done, it's called planning ahead) testing proves satisfactory and we send the design and prototype to Spain for trials. Our navy attempts to coordinate efforts with the other navies, which proves troublesome. We officially declare war on India. We continue our push into the Rhineland after we cross the Rhine. Three bombers are built for the planned nuking of India. The bomber is named MB-5S (ATL B-50). The carrier is finished, and it is decided that until Dutch infrastructure can be improved no fleet carriers would be built, with mini-carriers being built in the meantime. The navy pioneers using light ships out of necessity, with the most abundant big ships being heavy cruisers, with 20 heavy cruisers, and only ten modern battleships, and one carrier. Battleships are increasingly assigned to escort duties, and small ships become the striking force of the navy. The MB-5s (ATL B-29) and the prototype MB-6 (ATL B-36), the first use of these bombers, and the MB-6 proves devastating. However, MB-3s (ATL B-17s) and MB-4s (ATL B-24s) are the main heavy bombers.
  • Commonwealth Duchy of Oldenburg: Despite the best efforts of the entire nation, Oldenburg suffers some major setbacks. The military continues fighting nonetheless, whilst our factories churn out armaments as fast as possible. With bombs falling on Oldenburg city, the underground train depots are quickly re-purposed as air raid shelters. The High Council creates contingency plans in the event of the nation falling to the enemy. The Prince-Bishop's Misericordia Catholic medical agency struggles to cope with the huge numbers of casualties from both sides it has to deal with. He organises several civilian ships to sail under the Church's flag in an attempt to evacuate children from Oldenburg to the relative safety of the Neu Norderney countryside.
  • Commonwealth Lordship of Neu Norderney: Continues fighting the war with all of the resources it has to hand. The Great Damn is reinforced and given a detachment of anti-aircraft guns and fighter planes to protect it from damn-buster aircraft and missiles. Many children are evacuated from their homes in Jacqueline and sent to the country.
  • Borealia Flag 2 Union of Borealia: Both the economy and military improve across all the provinces of the Union. Oil produced from California, Alaska and foreign lands is imported to power plants throughout the nation, which in turn produce electrical energy for the entire continent. Borealians celebrate V-E day as the war in Europe comes to a close. The Curia appoints General Newburg to draw up a plan to reconstruct the region known as the Newburg Plan. Borealia opposes any action to break down Germany more than necessary. Meanwhile, the war in India continues, although severely hampered by local forces. Now that the Caliphate has fallen, we call on the Holy League to help end the war. A proposal to establish a United Nations is considered in the Curia, using one of the new Gothic buildings in New Munich. A single atom bomb is constructed and detonated in OTL Nevada for testing. A second bomb is under construction, while the designs are shipped to the allied nations of Brazil, Andea, and Spain.
    • Colony of Kinshasa: After purchasing the Scandinavian colony of the Kongo, the lumber and mining industries greatly expand. Villages of varying sizes appear and grow. The government becomes more centralized. The border expands inward 750 px.
    • Colony of North Antarctica: A small base is established on Antarctica's northernmost peninsula, inhabited for most of the year. The lighthouse is completed this year and becomes the tallest lighthouse in recorded history thus far.

France: Begins researching nuclear weaponry, using material taken from the Germans. As French troops occupy the Rhineland, plans are laid to ensure France has complete control of its zone of occupation for years to come. Naval expansion begins to see the growth of several French plans. Two aircraft carriers are completed this year and France proposes that it be allowed to occupy Belize and Cuba, citing that both of these countries will be unable to achieve stability without French help.

Republic of China: We demand complete Indian surrender as Operation: Superpower continues, with secret negotiations beginning between us and India. We request nuclear aid from Rome, pointing out we will soon have hegemony over most of Asia. Our forces begin to approach Delhi. We reform the Asian Defense Pact as the successor to the Tripartite Pact. We improve our tech to modern day levels at long last, thanks to aid from Rome.

  • Roman Empire: The Roman Empire continues to recover from the shock of the Great War, in which many good Romans died. The Empire also focuses on its internal security and stability after noticing the power of the revolt in Africa and remembering painful memories of revolts in Italy and Egypt. Economic and civic policy are seen as key to improving stability and cohesiveness in the Empire. With that said, the Empire does have several foreign policy successes to note as well, mainly the unification of the Tartary and the return of order in the steppes. Trade continues to go well and the military continues to have a major part of Roman society, and new weapons like tanks, planes, and better submarines now play a significant role in the way the Empire wages war. The financial crisis affects the Empire badly, and the economy suffers and many go without work. The current administration works to help mediate the crisis even though it knows its days are numbered. The civil war in the caliphate forces the Empire and its ally Assyria to be on guard. Research in new areas of science continues. Nuclear physics are explored in universities in the Empire, however, no major breakthroughs or accomplishments have been recorded and governmental support is low. The Roman government acknowledges Japanese neutrality, and also asks its allies in the Holy League to back up possible military action. With unanimous agreement from the other members, Roman and HL forces mobilize rapidly and invade the Caliphate while the Roman navy links up with the Borealians to blockade India and the Persian Gulf. Three fronts are created, one in Mesopotamia and the Hejaz, one in Somalia, and one in Central Asia. (Before anyone asks, I asked sky, a neutral mod, about the Holy League, and he said yes.)
  • Reme: Reme begins to build up its military and economy. Reme elects a new president and starts to build up its navy. Meanwhile, trade is improved on, with industrialization, mainly former Byzantine areas slowly being introduced to populous areas. Lumber, cash crops, and other goods become a major export of Reme, and starts getting Reme a jump-start into the European economy. There is also the creation of New navy ships, to help modernize the Reman navy. Coal mines are built, and starts churning out coal at a consistent rate. Coal mining plants are also started to be upgraded. Reme also starts very slowly changing its focus to industrial things, with a nationwide railroad being considered to be built. Industrialization of river areas continue, as well as the production of textiles to cheaper the price of Reman cotton. Meanwhile, a Socialist-based party starts to gain seats in parliament, with plans to make Reme a more self-sufficient state. People are getting anxious over the threat of Communism to Reme, and vote on the crackdown of Communist sympathizers and their families. The Reman government is pleased that Pearl River has voted to join the Empire, and promises that their rights and property will be maintained. The Reman military is improved a bit in an effort to hold up its part of the Fraternal Alliance. The economy suffers a great deal, and as a result the Socialists and outlawed Communists get a bit too eager in their expression that they have the correct answer, resulting in many demonstrations and some riots.
    • Protectorate of Wolof: Wolof begins to build up its military and economy. Reman food and supplies come in to help the formerly starving nation, as well as the Reman military to help sustain order. Some representation is given in the Reman Parliament, to give Wolof a minimal say in how Reme should be run. Meanwhile, plans to industrialize the coastal areas as well as plans for fortifications are presented, and are started being worked on.
  • Ban Republic of Croatia (Banska Republika Hrvatska): Sewerage systems similar to Ragusan ones are built in major towns of theBan Republic. With growing Ragusan influence, and the beginning of further colonization, the navy expands rapidly using much of the Ragusan expertise. Moreover, with the influx of new resources in form of lumber, labour and metals, the navy begins expanding at a fast rate. More and more ships capable of crossing the Atlantic with ease are built. The Sabor intends to restore the glorious naval culture of the Neretva peoples and plans to do so by expanding the navy. The kravata (tie) is more and more used as an accessory. Trade routes are strengthened and the salt mines around Tuzla are explored as well as the salt industry in Pag and Nin. Using irrigation from the Danube, Sava, Drava, Drina, Cetina, Una, Vrbaš, Kupa, Neretva and other rivers the fields in the kingdom are developed, used for crops such as wheat, rye and barley. With trade routes increasing and Croatia entering an era of peace and of stability, the development of new trade ships is issued. Stone mining is furthered as well as the timber industry. The need for these resources rises as urbanization carries on. Iron ores in Dugopolje, Zenice and at last the 'mud' ore in Vojvodina and Eastern Slavonia are to be exploited alongside the silver and copper ores more frequently and of better quality than the iron ores. The exploitation of iron ores in the Lika and Gorski kotar areas continues. The salt industry in Ston is funded by the government. The influx of resources from Dahomey aids the economy. However, the government makes sure that the gold arriving isn't immediately put on the market in order to control the inflation in the worth of gold. The silver mine in Srebrenica is mined. Kotor Saraka (Adelaide) continues to expand. Draganić continues his research.
    • Isles of the Archvoivodeship (Otoci Nadvojvodstva): The infrastructure is built up.
    • Ban Republic of Carantania (Banska Republika Karantanija): Being an Alpine Slavic nation, the leaders begin a programme to create a standardized Carantanian language that will reflect on both the Slavic and Alpine (Germanic) aspects of Carantania.
    • Sukadang Županija: Croatization. Expansion onto the other parts of Borneo.
    • Croatian Africa: Continues to expand.
    • White Croatia: Large-scale Croatization, numerous harsh measures are introduced to ensure White Croatia is Croatian.
  • Spain and associatied territories continue fighting in the regions where the war is still going. Occupation of occupied territories continues. India is possibly nuked depending on what MP says.

1952

Nuclear weapons are deployed against the Indian cities of Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Coumbatore. German, Indian, and Caliphate forces lay defeated as peace negotiations begin immediately.

  • Commonwealth Kingdoms: As the war draws to a close, King Karl IV, with the consent of Emperor Erika, abdicates from the Kingdoms of New Rugia and Kuba. The throne of New Rugia, including the surrounding islands is passed to Karl's cousin, the Grand Duke of New Mecklenburg, joining it to the Union of Australia. Kuba, including Belize, which hasn't seen action in the war despite its proximity to the aggressors against Germany, is to be inherited by Mary of Vultsburg, a Kuban-born niece of King Karl. She is given the inheritance after taking an oath that her relation to the Hamburg royal family won't influence Kuba's policies. As she takes the throne of Kuba, she declares Kuba and Belize's independence from the Commonwealth of Germany and declares neutrality, asking for recognition of Kuba's independence from Germany from Reme, Brazil, and Andea. While upset at his niece for unilaterally separating Kuba from Germany, after her declaration, King Karl orders all Commomwealth Kingdom army and naval units not aligned to Kuba to pull out. Those units head north, loop around the north coast of Scotland, and through the Kattegat back to Germany.
  • Commonwealth States (Bavaria): As the war draws to a close, Bavaria and the rest of the Commonwealth States remain devastated from the war. Melanie Leverenz, having been Governor-General since 1943 and just elected to her third term, pledges to stand by Germany in this dark time, and to oversee a period of "reconstruction, recovery, and rejuventation". She endorses the Treaty of Constantinople and blasts the competing Treaty of Geneva as an implausible, damning, and imperialistic document that seeks the inhumane subjugation of Germany. Leverenz states that she will continue to seek political office in Bavaria following the governmental change as proposed by the Treaty of Constantinople. In other news, the economy is in shambles following the war, and the Bavarian government scrambles to essentially repair it. By year end, things have a slightlier positive outlook as ruins are cleared and new industrial ventures in Stuttgart, Augsburg, Landshut, and Munich are launched. Leverenz approves of the creation of the Civilian Nuclear Research Corps, which conducts business non-militarized nuclear power, as well as scientific research into such fields. She projects that the CNRC will generate thousands of jobs as well as entirely new careers, stimulating an ailing economy.
  • India: After nuclear explosions in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Coumbatore, India surrenders.
Borealians celebrate V-A day as India finally surrenders to the allies. This surrender didn't come, however, until after the great city of Kovai was leveled by a nuclear device, nicknamed "checkmate". The Curia appoints General Newburg to draw up a plan to reconstruct Europe known as the Newburg Plan. The United Nations will be established as soon as the treaties of Geneva and Constantinople are signed. All nuclear research is classified by the Curia.
  • Nederlanden: Stuff happens, as the Germans surrender and are defeated. We celebrate VE day and annex the border regions. Other things.
Since Germany surrenders, we take parts of southern Germany and annex it into our nation. A parade happens, because we won the war. A group of scientists start a space program. Some of the ideas for the space program are shared with the military. Our space program wants to build ships to land on the Moon and some day land on Mars.
  • Republic of Britannia: Important infrastructural reforms were enacted in major cities, in order to modernize the Republic. With growing Britannic influence, and the beginning of a new era, the navy expanded rapidly using much of the Britannic expertise. Moreover, the influx of new resources in the form of lumber, labour and metals helped expanding the navy. Trade routes through the English Channel, the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean were stregthened, and coal mines around Northumberland, Durham, North and South Wales, Yorkshire, Scotland, Lancashire, the East and West Midlands and Kent were exploited. The Republic of Britannia secures victory over Mali, and establishes the state as a Britannic colony. Although Britannia had not participated in the Second Great War, it equally takes part in the celebrations for Victory in Europe and Asia.
    • Britannic Eire: The economy and the navy are developed.
    • Britannic Africa: The African colonies expand by 5000 px.
    • Britannic - Britanny Diplomacy: The Republic of Britannia offers the Kingdom of Britanny to become an autonomous province of the Republic of Britannia. An affirmative response from the Kingdom of Britanny would safeguard the interests of both nations, promote trade and cooperation, and would secure the existence and sovereignty of Britanny from French aggression. Finally, it would lay the foundation to an era of cooperation and understanding between the Republic of Britannia and the Kingdom of Britanny. [Mod Response]
  • The algorithm for the Mali war has not been done, therefore you cannot claim victory.
  • Australia: We invade Sri Lanka due to some Indian politicians escaping there. We celebrate VA day. More factories. More people in Antarctica. More settlements. The Australian industrial revolution continues.
  • Ruthenia: The Kollada Airship company finishes its expansion of airship service with the first airship to travel to the Korean capital of Seoul. Much of the notable cities of Europe and Asia have airship service. The massive area is too much for the Kollada Airship Line to service alone, which has lead to the rise of healthy competition in the field. In Eurasia there are at least a dozen major airship companies serving the people. Including Britannia's Albion Airship Line which has a healthy share in the region of Western Europe, and the Spanish Hispanic Airship Line which has a strong presence in Southern Europe and North Africa.
• Republic of China: We condemn the use of nukes in war and cut all diplomatic links with whoever fired the nukes. However, many Chinese people celebrate the end of war, with Victory over India day celebrations. The Conservatives push for minor land gains in the talks, as well as vassalisation and the reestablishment of the Asian Defense Pact. The Conservatives alienated many nationalists due to their late entry into war and many pacifists by entering war, though the Conservatives still win the 1952 Chinese General Election with 54% of the votes. This is opposed the Workers Party, now the main opposition, result of 36%. In the winning speech the Conseratives make a series of vague promises, with a secret desire to bring back the Shun Dynasty.
  • Arabia: After successfully invading and occupying India, we are shocked to learn that the Roman Empire is now demanding the majority of our territory be ceded to them or their puppet states. We begin a resistance against the Romans.
    • Chinese Diplomacy: We ask if you would like to join the Asian Defense Pact to stop European, including Roman, influence in Asia.
  • Algonquia: Officially sends a delegation to the Treaty of Constantinople negotiations claiming Neu Juist and Neu Norderney. With one million men mobilized in the invasion of these territories, it begins reconstituting them under native governance. Meanwhile, the economy is upgraded, industrialization increases, and a nuclear reactor is completed to process uranium for civilian use.

1953

  • Kingdom of Kuba and Duchy of Belize: It's been a year since Mary of Vultsburg rose to the Kuban and Belizian thrones, and subsequently declared independence. Since then, Mary, now styled "By the Grace of God, Mary II, King of Kuba, Duke of Belize, Duke of Guantanamo, Duke of Havana, Count of Vultsburg, King of the Taino and Carib, Defender of the Realm and its People", has worked to solidify Kuba's defenses, while simultaneously reaching out to the Chan Chan signatories, asking for full admittance of the newly independent Kuban realm. As Havana was used as a storage space for duplicates of the Lübeck Project notes, and those notes were then seized before they could be destroyed, King Mary orders that nuclear power be researched as a source of energy. She also orders an above-top secret study on the building of a nuclear weapon, should Kuba need to defend itself. Other former United German assets, such as naval and army equipment left behind, are also seized and added to the newborn Kuban military. A law is also enacted ordering every military-aged male to join the military if the survival of the state is in jeopardy.
    • It makes literally zero sense for copies to be held in Kuba when Andea and her allies have invaded Kuba before. Furthermore, you argued so adamantly that they were in the Pacific, that I find it unlikely that you would have them there. Furthermore, I doubt Kuba's capablity to create a nuclear weapon. Furthermore, Kuba's existance isn't solidified yet.
    • It's called redundancy, multiple copies so that the information isn't all lost should they need to be destroyed to prevent capture. Kuban scientists and officials were also part of the Lübeck Project, so they have know-how of its workings. If France and the Netherlands can develop nuclear weapons, why can't Kuba? Furthermore, why are you the one striking this? You're hardly unbiased in this situation.
    • To be honest those nations will probably be crossed out too, but at least they have the cooperation of multiple nations to aid them. You are claiming that research was in Kuba, despite never mentioning it before.
  • Indian Empire: Emperor Saddam Hussein was proclaimed the Empress of India in 1944, starting a new era. The Indian population rose to about 741,772,000, and the flocking of the people to coastal cities continued, with a mass increase of population in Kolkata, Mahmudpur, Karachi, Mumbai, Surat and various other minor cities and townships throughout the state. The Indian army, equipped with modern armaments stood at 720,000 troops with an additional 500,000 reserves whilst the Imperial Guard was composed of 20,000 troops and the armament industry thrived on local and national level, with armaments rarely imported from foreign nations with Andea being the only exception case. The Indian navy experimented on aircraft carriers and had started production of larger classes of dreadnoughts ships, churning out first rate battleships for various fleets, and more third rates, and fourth rates with the occasional second rate to augment the smaller patrol fleets with 40% of the national navy harboured at the Andaman and Kolkata ports. In agriculture was the largest economic focus of India, exporting various crops to foreign nations with the international jute and cotton textile production largely under Indian control. Along the same time, the Indian Renaissance were in full swing, with movements such as the Young India movement having aided in national modernisation and a massive rise in literacy and education, with major developments in chemistry, physics, biology, etc. Moreover, promotion of industrialisation and capitalism allowed the Imperial authorities to construct a Trans-National Railway, connecting the entire Empire as well as introduction of many other commodities such as telephones, bulbs, electricity. Exception progress in regards to radio waves had already allowed India to develop the Shahi antenna and the radio. The Indian espionage authorities had cooperated with scientists in this regard, and India had soon constructed thousands of numbers stations throughout its Empire, developing the best espionage network in Asia, rivalling that of the Roman Empire. The state also was keen to invest in its defense sector, generally to keep India protected from any foreign invasion. As such, the newly commissioned Agni V Tank was declared fit for service, and delivered to hundreds of brigades throughout India. Armament companies in India had also developed the Mahmud I and the Timurid III Tanks, which were to be tested by the military for their durability. Although not of considerable importance internationally, the Indian automobile industry was quite successful nationally and helped improve the transport conditions in the state. By 1940, 100% of the Upper Class, 59% of the Middle Class and 14% of the Lower Class possessed vehicles. These automobile companies also contributed to the state military, by offering various vehicles to be used for military transport. Meanwhile, the Indian authorities took a keen interest in developing ballistic missiles after having observed rocket tests in the Andaman Islands. Hence, the state developed a commission to fund research into and the development of missiles. Emperor Saddam Hussein was placed under house arrest by the conquering powers, and the Monarch awaited his fate as a Treaty was drawn up by Borealia, Spain and the Roman Empire.

The Hyundai Motor Company continues to build more cars. Prime Minister Syngman Rhee asks Japan if it's okay to end the protectorate status on Korea; though it will continue to be a close ally of Japan and hopes for continued friendly relations with them either way. Meanwhile, the government also begins a policy of neutrality in world affairs in general.

    • Britannic Diplomacy: The Republic of Britannia offers an olive branch to the Commonwealth of Borealia, seeking to establish an alliance between the two states, and to secure free trade as well as sharing of technology.
  • (Former) Commonwealth Duchy of Oldenburg: Duke Wilhelm III hands himself over to the coalition allies following last year's surrender. In his final public speech, he defends the actions of Germany, saying that Germany only acted in self defence, and that the end result is sobering evidence that militarism and expansionism are now the norm of relations between states. With the fighting over, the full scale of the destruction from the war begins to sink in. The Prince-Bishop's Misericordia organisation has its work cut out for it providing ongoing medical help and providing food, shelter and clothing for the hundreds of thousands of displaced people.
  • Lordship of Neu Norderney: Having surrendered to the victorious enemy, Lord Conrad IX and his government send a letter to Algonquia's: Leaders, appealing to them to take pity on Neu Norderney, caught up, as it were, in a "European War, with European leaders". With the Constantinople conference appearing to indicate that Neu Norderney will gain independence, Lord Conrad and his government begin drawing up plans for rebuilding the nation.
    • Algonquia responds that it's a little late to attempt to deflect blame for the war, and states that it doubts that the leaders who steered Neu Norderney into war will remain in control. It also declines to withdraw its troops.

    • Britannic Diplomacy: The Republic of Britannia condemns the French proposal to execute the Kaiser, referring to the execution of a state of head as a barbaric action.
  • Australia: We join the UN. We continue our invasion of Lanka. We ask for any country to give us aid in this invasion. We request Boreala to send aid to us and say that we aided the invasion of India - now you do the same to us. We build more settlements in Antarctica. More scientists are sent to those posts. We accept any immigrants to come into the country. The Australian Industrial Revolution continues. We buy oil from Boreala.
Andea projects to have a nuclear weapon by late 1951.
    • Union of Sudafrica: Continues to make leaps and bounds. The nation is officially made into a commonwealth of Andea, and is making strives toward independence. The nation declares war on Germany, moblizing 500,000 men to aid the motherland.
Trade routes through the English Channel, the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean were strengthened, and coal mines around Northumberland, Durham, North and South Wales, Yorkshire, Scotland, Lancashire, the East and West Midlands and Kent were exploited. The Republic of Britannia expresses their desire to negotiate with the Empire of Spain, to secure the release of Saharan Morocco, Spanish Morocco and Britannic Morocco as an independent united state.
[Mod Response Needed]
  • Spain and associated territories celebrate their victory. There is a grand parade and the king makes a public appearance in the parade. Prime Minister San Nicolas announces the beginning of a new period of freedom and peace for everyone. The plans for freedom in West Africa and the eastern colonies are recontinued, with new boundaries being drafted for the colonial nations. The Spanish government realizes that nuclear weapons, in the wrong hands, can be extremely dangerous to Spain, and decide to start making more nukes in order to increase the government's power to protect the nation. The Spanish scientists who were previously working on rocket technology begin to examine the potential of using said rockets to achieve spaceflight and perhaps send a man to space. The Spanish Aeronautic Association is officially merged with a number of other government departments to form the Spanish Space Administration.
  • Republic of China: Seeing Arabian dislike of Rome, we request Arabia joins the Asian Defense Pact to stop Roman influence. We continue Operation: Superpower, requesting the nations in Asia not under foreign influence or control join the Asian Defense Pact. We condemn Frances proposal to execute the Kaiser, due to it being barbaric. We begin to make advances in the Chinese Nuclear Weapons Programme, with all data being shared with any nation that gets to the Asian Defense Head Nations Council. The grandson of the last Shun Monarch seems to be gaining power...
  • Ruthenia: Ruthenian scientists debate the possibility of producing energy via nuclear fission. Many people think the venture is an impossibility.
  • Algonquian troops remain in occupation of Neu Juist and maintain a substantial presence in Neu Norderney, with no intentions of withdrawing until a definitive treaty is signed. Many troops are demobilized, however. With the new civilian nuclear reactor up and running, supplies of processed uranium abound, and the government looks to expand these reactors to major cities to act as power sources. Major diamond and gold mines are discovered in northern Algonquia, providing new sources of wealth for isolated communities.

United Nordic Republics

  • France: Unveils its nuclear weapons arsenal, and begins building up its armed forces, as it rebuilds its newly taken land from Germany.
    • You do realize absolutely no one will support you taking occupied German land, not to mention that you plausibly can't? You don't even know what land you occupy. Also have fun trying to take Kuba and Belize, and calling for the execution of the Kaiser.
    • Everyone supports France gaining land, it's in both versions of the treaty. That much is indisputable. It's also definitely plausible.
    • Yes, but not occupied land. I saw Spar's post on your talk page asking to annex French-occupied land in Germany. That is definitely not going to fly. He can take all lands allotted to him, such as Alsace-Lorraine, but not any occupied land.
    • Alsace-Lorraine is also an occupied land.
    • *Sigh* Yes, okay, but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about occupied land which will only be occupied temporarily, much like how the allies divied up Germany post-OTL WWII and eventually evacuated those lands. Spar's post on Fritz's talk page made it seem like he'd be taking Alsace-Lorraine PLUS any temporarily occupied land he had no business taking.
  • Commonwealth States (Bavaria): The future of the Commonwealth States hang in the balance in light of proposed government changes in the Treaty of Constantinople, changes which could prove sweeping. Melanie Leverenz holds relatively high approval numbers, although ones which have slipped considerably since she was first elected. In order to boost her numbers, as well as aide the flatlining economy, Leverenz introduces a series of economic reform bills to the Augsburg Diet. She plans on increasing the funding of the CNRC, as well as creating a bill aimed at creating tax breaks, also known as tax benefits, for low-income families earning less than a certain sum a year. The Diet is divided on her bills, with Marian Liberals and Democrats supporting the bills and Conservatives being opposed to it. The public is divided similarly. In other news, Leverenz announces in 1953 that she won't pursue another term next year, and will instead retire from politics. Her Vice-Governor, Oswald Klein, has not stated whether he plans to run. If he does so and wins, it will mark twenty years of Democrat-Federalist rule in Bavaria.
  • Commonwealth Kingdoms (Hamburg): Emperor Erika laughs at the French call for her execution, calling it barbaric and unrealistic. She officially supports the Treaty of Constantinople as well as German entrance into the Holy League, but protests the proposed change of government and her removal from the throne. In other news, the 1955 chancellery elections are slowly approaching, and the field is already quickly filling up. Both the Marian Liberal and Centrist Parties are blamed for not protecting Germany enough in the war, leading to the Democratic-Federalist, Socialist and Communist Parties to receive a larger share of attention in national politics. Melanie Leverenz was rumored to seek the Chancellery in 1955, but since she announced her impending resignation, those rumors have subsided. Johann Valdenser, Conservative governor of Hanover, announces his plan to run for the chancellery, receiving a large bulk of support. In other news, the economy is in tatters following the war. However, due to clean-up efforts in major cities, as well as the work of the Hanoverian Parliament, the economy recovers slightly by year end. Emperor Erika supports Mary of Vultsburg's rule in Kuba.
The Roman government continues to push for the completion of the Treaty of Constantinople, and Roman troops remain ready to fulfill the provisions as described.

1954

  • Kingdom of Kuba and Duchy of Belize: in the two years since King Mary's declaration of independence and neutrality, Kuba continues reaching out for recognition of its independence from Germany. Study of nuclear sciences continue, with the state's first nuclear reactor project to be completed in about five years. In accordance with negotiations with New World powers, King Mary decides to abdicate the title of Duke of Belize, and names her second cousin, Henry of Guantanamo, to the position. After his succession is confirmed by the Belizian Parliament, she formally abdicates the position, personally handing the Ducal Crown to Henry. Afterwards, Kuba rescinds Belize's seats in the Havanan diet, and closes Kuban government offices in Belizestadt.
Trade routes through the English Channel, the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean were strengthened, and coal mines around Northumberland, Durham, North and South Wales, Yorkshire, Scotland, Lancashire, the East and West Midlands and Kent were exploited. The Republic of Britannia initiates an espionage mission to conduct surveillance in Western Europe. The state begins to invest in the development of ballistic missiles, albeit not for reasons such as the development of a nuclear warhead.
[Mod Response Needed]
    • BULLSHIT, BULLSHIT, BULLSHIT, JUST BS! YOU DON'T KNOW WHERE MY BLOODY NUCLEAR MISSILE SITES ARE AT ALL, AND THAT'S META-GAMING! ISN'T IT?
    • This is not necessarily meta-gaming because espionage is a thing. Moreover, it is not impossible to identify the nuclear sites of another state and in your case, only 33.3% were correctly located. As far as taking out another nation's air force is concerned, you should look at the Six Day War. In your case, the French were more concerned with Germany and would've never expected a Britannic air strike.
    • Mate, your attack is unprovoked. What the hell did I do?
    • This right here is some dumb shit. But to be fair, it's possible.
    • Assuming France even has nukes. Where are the mods with that retcon?
    • The attack was not necessarily unprovoked. Rapid militarisation of the French, and their aggressive attitude was seen as a threat by Britannia. Unlike the French, Britannia does not possess nuclear weapons and given how the French recently threatens to nuke Germany, a similar threat towards Britannia would've been inevitable, at least in the eyes of the Britannic government.
    • It appears France doesn't have nuclear weapons at all. Hence, no more war.
    • France doesn't have nukes. It wasn't a part of either Joint program.
  • ''Lombardy: Our military is continuing to increase due to technology becoming better. The space program continues to build satellites to send into space. A prototype ship is being built. Jobs are opening up in the building sections to help out with the space program. Factories are now continuing to make space parts for the space program.
The Newburg plan continues to reconstruct Europe. Borealia stengthens ties with Britannia and sends engineers to improve their industry.
    • Indian Oceanic Territories: Composed of the Andaman Islands and the Maldives Islands. Limited Sharia law remains as the vast majority of the population is Muslim. A major port is expanded in Male, and used as a central headquarters to dominating trade in the pacific. Australia is given exclusive access to these ports. Major bases controlled by BARD experiment with rockets. BARD is expanded into a Space Agency, and begins to develope vehicles to reach Earth Orbit.
Prime Minister Syngman Rhee again asks Japan if it's okay to end the protectorate status on Korea; though it will continue to be a close ally of Japan and hopes for continued friendly relations with them either way. Meanwhile, the government continues the policy of neutrality in world affairs in general.
  • United Kingdom of Germany: 1954 is a crucial year for Germany. In the beginning of the year, there remains heavy malaise and sadness after the loss of a such a major war. As the year goes on, however, this disappointment turns into raw outrage. The economy is tattered, leaving many to wallow in poverty, itself exacerbated by the remaining ruins and rubble from the massive war. Many in the lower- and middle-classes call for immediate cleanup of the major cities, as well as the ousting of the Liberal governments for their perceived failure to protect Germany. The current Chancellor, Amaric Davez (L), attempts to quell insurgency by proclaiming he won't run for a 1955 re-election. Many activists respond well to this action, but none-the-less, anger builds in the country. Despite Davez's comments, things continue to spiral out of control. Massive protests in Augsburg, Stuttgart, Vienna, Hamburg, and Berlin occur through out the year, sometimes being met by violent resistance. By summer, it clear that the country is on edge of civil war. A sect rises in the Diet by early July, dubbed the Constantinians, as they push the government to sign the Treaty of Constantinople. Constantinians tend to be Democratic-Federalists opposed to the current Liberal administration. Davez refuses to sign the Treaty, claiming it to not be complete yet. The Constantinians then threaten to impeach the Chancellor, while Davez and his supporters attempt to block their efforts. This deadlock continues until August, when the two factions agree to hold an emergency election in September. The September elections are held in the face of anger, insurgency, and baited breath. Only a few high-profile candidates enter the race, the remaining people being activists or protesters. The race is primarily composed of three people: Frederick Wahl (D-Han.), former Senator from Hanover and a moderate favorite; Joanna Englebrat (D-Aus.) centrist Senator from Austria; and conservative firebrand Governor of Brandenburg Franz-Theodore Lusetano. Lusetano remains the likely candidate for quite some time in early August, with his ideology and poise earning him praise. However, a lack of funds and serious campaign missteps cause Lusetano to fall in the polls. Wahl rises to the top and ultimately defeats Englebrat and Lusetano on election day. The nation remains cynical even after the election. Many citizens fall into a disenchantment of government and politics, seeing as how the economy and infrastructure show no signs of improving. Wahl notes this, and promises that he will work with the Diet to provide a three-tiered bill aimed at improving the economy, cleaning up the physical effects of the war, and updating the German infrastructure. However, the Constantinians threaten to block any bill he proposes unless he supports the signing of the Treaty of Constantinople. He refuses to sign it, due to the possibility of Emperor Erika, one of his biggest political allies, being removed from her throne. However, he proposes a compromise, where he and the Diet would informally fulfill one of the components of the treaty, that of reforming the government into a constitutional parliamentary monarchy. Many Constantinians agree and work on a large bill aimed at reforming the administrative form of the country. By early December, they introduce the Transitional Bill of 1954. The name of the country is changed to the 'United Kingdom of Germany'. To further appease Constantinians, Wahl agrees to allow the abolition of the title of Holy Roman Emperor, provided that the title of King of the Germans remain and be renamed 'King/Queen of Germany' and still be an elective title. Constantinians agree to that, and other clauses in the bill. The system of Commonwealths is abolished and replaced by the Domain systems. Each region of Germany is divided into five Domains; North, South, East, West, and Central. An extra region is created to hold the national capital of Marystadt. Within each of these domains, Provinces exist which are allowed to exert the same semi-autonomous control they exerted in the previous federal government. Many respond well to these reforms, while many still remain cynical. Cynicism is especially strong in the South, with Bavarians and Austrians angered at having their regional power divied up and weakened. In response to this, the Augsburg Diet votes to create the 'Union of Bavaria, Austria and Northern Commonwealths' (UNBANC), trying to tie up the former Commonwealth States into a political and economic co-operative, coming into effect the first day of 1955. Bavaria, Austria, Saxony, Brandenburg, and Pomerania accept to enter UNBANC, while the Constantinian dominated Swabia rejects to enter, but sends a special envoy to the Union regardless. The year ends with the country still in moral and monetary depression. The chances of civil uprising and insurgency remain high and political apathy and anger reign. The UNBANC has quelled some voices in the South, but not by much. Frederick Wahl announces that he will unveil several tax break programs, economic stimulus packages, and other bills to combat the imploded economy. In general political news, Communists and Democratic-Federalists vie for local and provincial office as they try to appease to voters with sympathetic, some-what heart-wrenching messages, promising to mitigate the effects of war and oust incompetent Liberals and Conservatives.
    • Northern Domain: The Northern Domain is made up of the Provinces of Hamburg, Mecklenburg and Oldenburg, with Governors heading each of them. In Oldenburg, the Duke is allowed to retain his seat. The North remains a very volatile area, halved between those who are embittered by the great loss in the war, and those who want to move on. Several activist and protest groups are formed in Hamburg. Erika von Greschaft is pressured by her advisors to drop the title of 'Emperor' and 'King of the Germans' due to them no longer existing as titles. Erika does not relent, and still refers to herself as the Holy Roman Emperor, but states that she is pleased the seat is fundamentally the same and remains elective.
    • Southern Domain: The Southern Domain is made up of the Provinces of Austria, Bavaria and Swabia, with Governors heading each of them. The Southern Domain remains a hotbed for raw feelings and anger towards the German government. Bavaria and Austria spearhead the development of the UNBANC in an effort to keep the former Commonwealth States tied together. All but Swabia accept to enter the organization. Melanie Leverenz announces her retirement from the Governorship of Bavaria come 1955, but rescinds on her earlier pledge to leave politics. Seemingly energized by the loss of her Governor-General position, Leverenz announces she will seek leadership positions in the UNBANC come 1955. In other southern news, the Augsburg Diet continues implementing tax break and tax credit progroms for low-income families and those in severe poverty. The Civilian Nuclear Research Corps continues operating, giving many scientists, physicists and engineers jobs.
    • Eastern Domain: The Eastern Domain is made up of the Provinces of Brandenburg, Pomerania and Prussia, with Governors heading each of them. Brandenburg and Pomerania join the UNBANC in order to preserve the former Commonwealth States. The Eastern Domain remains one of the lesser-devastated areas of the war, especially around Potsdam, due to the low industrial and agricultural prominence of the region.
    • Central Domain: The Central Domain is made up of the Provinces of Saxony and Hanover, with Governors heading each of them. The central domain remains somewhat quiet, but still very heated in the face of economic hardship and a general sense of despair. Saxon nationalism is stoked by radical collectives, but is mostly shunned by the majority of the citizenry and political class. Instead, more popular groups are formed advocating for the quick cleanup of bombed cities and destroyed farmlands.
    • Western Domain: The Western Domain is made up of the Provinces of Westphalia and Rhineland, with Governors heading each of them. Westphalia remains a core German heartland, and is a center for the brewing anger and disappointment following the loss in the war.
    • Marystadt: Marystadt is allowed to become a single district due to its importance and size. National politics is dominated by post-war despair. Many Constantianians purse an aggressive approach to the post-war outlook, urging voters and citizens to "suck it up" and focus on clean-up, volunteering, and civic outreach, while Liberals and Conservatives focus on maintaining a courageous German spirit. Liberals introduce several tax breaks and reward programs to aid low-income families, while Conservative politicians encourage a laissez-faire set of economic packages. In totality, the situation remains confusing and the politics hard to navigate. Nevertheless, aside from the occasional demonstration and protest, Marystadt remains the most peaceful of all the newly-created domains.
    • UNBANC: The Union of Bavaria, Austria and Northern Commonwealths is established in 1955 after the Augsburg Diet attempted to keep together the unity of the former Commonwealth States. Melanie Leverenz, current Governor of Bavaria, is de-facto leader of the Union. Leverenz is upset after her office of Governor-General was abolished after the Commonwealth system itself was eliminated. She announces that once the UNBANC is put into effect in January of 1955, she will pursue leadership positions within the organization. Many support her action, being incredibly fond of the "Woman of Bavaria".
    • Transitional Domain of Trentino-Venezia: The areas of Trentino-Venezia, a once rich and valuable Bavarian region, must now be ceded to the Duchy of Lombardy. A transitional government is set up in the region to ensure that it remains stable and secure until the Treaty of Constantinople is signed. The general populace is mostly disappointed and saddened by the German loss, but the Transitional Government attempts to alleviate the pain by approving of several cleanup initiatives aimed at restoring Venice and other cities. Joanna Englebrat is appointed as Transitional Government by her former electoral opponent Frederick Wahl. Many radical, pro-German groups rise in Venezia.
    • Transitional Domain of Alsace-Lorraine: The area of Alsace-Lorraine is made into a Transitional Domain in order to facilitate a peaceful transition to the French government following the war. Due to the area not being a core German territory, its citizenry have no real connections to Germany and many applaud the return to France.
      • Lankan Diplomacy: We ask our allies in Germany as stated in the Waardige Accords to sanction Australia and force them to sign peace in their offensive war.
  • Empire of Lanka: Emperor Dutugamunu II continues to control the throne. The government continues to focus all efforts on industrialization. Accelerated industrialization continues in Lanka due to things like the Waardige Pact, and the country's focus on it. Lankan architecture begins to develop its own identity, influenced largely by renaissance/baroque Dutch architecture and Asian, specifically Indian architecture. Although small, the imperial army continues to remain one of the most advanced in Asia, due to European supplies. Population in the cities continue to get jobs in factories and get involved in industrial work. The most recent census taken in 1930 accounts for 5,918,784 citizens. The ports on the island remain in heavy use, even competing with some Indian ports in the region like Chennai. Significant urbanization causes the cities of Waardige, Sri Jaywardenepura Kotte, Kandy, Kalmunai, and Galle, to be flooded with people. Waardige continues to be a trade, technological and industrial center in Asia. The Waardige Canal stands more as a scenic part of Waardige, and sometimes get visited by Europeans for their honeymoons. The island is nearly covered in railroads, and both transportation and transport of people and goods on the island is very fast. Religion in the empire continues to be mixed with the three main religions of Hinduism, Buddhism and Dutch Reformist being worshiped on the main island while there are a few animist natives on Nava Kotte. The Lankan navy still holds warships that were supplied during the protectoratecy. With Galle and Waardige fitted to make ironclads and other warships, the Lankan navy continues to gain power. Lankan industrial funding continues to be used to build factories across the empire, and industrialize the whole nation. The Individual Imperial Number Edict stays in place. Lanka continues to massively export cigars, tea, tobacco, rubber, diamonds, and other precious gems. Lanka continues to hold alliances with Spain, Japan and Rome. The empire continues to purchase weapons from Japan and Rome. The Compulsory Education Act of 1919 which makes compulsory education from ages five to fifteen and makes work-only and school-only days. The Lankan Guilder continues to be minted and printed at the Lankan Imperial Bank. With Lankan military assistance in India on two different missions, he commisions two medals for those who have served. Propaganda is spread throughout the country which slanders and degrades Tamils and their religion of Hinduism. A law is created that prohibits Tamils joining the army, and Tamils marrying Sinhalans. A decree is also created that blocks any non-Sinhalans from joining the parliament. Tamils have the titular title of citizen removed and are declared subjects of the state, with fewer rights. WITH LANKA INVADED BY AUSTRALIA, LANKA CALLS ON OUR ALLIES IN SPAIN, ROME and JAPAN. Although India was a major Lankan ally, there is no evidence of Indian politicians retreating to Lanka. Lanka stayed neutral in WW2, and Emperor Dutugamunu calls the Australians uneducated warhawks. He also states that they are a warmongering nation attempting to subjugate the innocent Lankan people. Lanka CALLS ALL OF OUR ALLIES and MEMBERS OF THE WAARDIGE ACCORDS to send aid to Lanka and sanction Australia until the peace is signed. We also apply to join the UN. (OOC: You haven't even made an algo yet, and I am pretty sure I would beat you, so if anything, your invasion is so far at most a stalemate.)
    • Britannic Diplomacy: The Britannic Foreign Minister condemns the Australian invasion of Lanka, and calls for restraint on both sides. The Republic of Australia is requested to respect Lankan neutrality, and to call back its forces. The Republic of Britannia similarly requests Lanka to refrain from verbal insults. The Republic of Britannia, therefore, places an arms embargo on Australia.
    • I think it would be best for everyone if we decided that this war never happened. However, if I have to, I will support Lanka. Britannia, that's a dumb reason to embargo Lanka. "Verbal insults" are literally the only thing to do right now. Australia, please end this silly war. ~ Scraw
    • As Borealia, I'm just going to make this moot by offering Lanka into the Indo-Pacific Alliance -Nathan
    • To be honest, I expected Spain and Borealia to back Australia over Lanka. I personally was sympathetic with Lanka, but felt that any move to support Lanka would result in opposition from Spain and Borealia. Keen not to ruin relations with the latter, I imposed an arms embargo on both participants of the conflict. -Qarth
    • Do you realize what you are doing... You are placing an arms embargo due to a war being declared on ME. To be clear Lanka does not want to be in this war, and I am open to sign a treaty quickly. I don't know about you, but it doesn't make sense that you place an embargo on both, Australia chose to be in this war, Lanka did not.
  • France announces that it will be annexing its zone of occupation in Germany, citing that the Germans are trying take revenge in a most obvious way, and tells the Germans that if they attempt to recover land that was never truly theirs, they will be on the receiving end of France's nuclear weapons. At the same time, France proposes that an alliance with the Netherlands and any other nations willing to form an alliance, which will be known as the European Community Alliance.
    • Spain condemns any action not approved of in the Treaty of Constantinople. Seriously, Spar. Also, where did you get nukes?
    • Britannic Diplomacy: The Britannic Foreign Ministry condemns the French attempt to annex German territory and for threatening to use nuclear weapons.
    • Honestly a mod needs to cross this BS out. It's not plausibile at all since he doesn't even know what territory he will be temporarily occupying.
  • Algonquia continues to develop economically, mining gold and uranium. Meanwhile, Algonquian scientists use the abundant supplies of processed uranium to create a radiological weapon they refer to as a "dirty bomb". Algonquia asks to purchase New Guernsey for 100 million pounds.
    • Britannic Diplomacy: The Britannic Foreign Ministry accepts the offer by the Algonquian government, and the OTL Dominican Republic is sold to Algonquia for £100,000,000.
Andea expands her nuclear arsenal.
  • Ruthenia: The Ruthenians continue research into nuclear energy.
  • Lordship of Neu Norderney: Lord Conrad IX and his government continue making preparations for full independence, and send a representative to Constantinople to sign the treaty. The Roman government continues to push for the completion of the Treaty of Constantinople, and Roman troops remain ready to fulfill the provisions as described. Nuclear research continues, and teh Sahara becomes a testing range for any detonations.

With the economy making an impressive recovery, King Mary II authorizes the construction of Kuba's first post-independence naval units for the Kuban Naval Self-Defense Force. Jet aircraft also begin entering Kuba's nascent air force. Nuclear research also continues, with construction of the state's first nuclear plant beginning construction this year.
Trade routes through the English Channel, the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean were strengthened, and coal mines around Northumberland, Durham, North and South Wales, Yorkshire, Scotland, Lancashire, the East and West Midlands and Kent were exploited. The Republic of Britannia continued to conduct espionage operations in Western Europe, specifially developing aircrafts for surveillance. The Republic directed funds towards the development of ballistic missiles, and similarly sought to develop a Britannic Space Agency, although it was not possible to do so at that time.
    • Britannic Eire: The economy and the navy are developed.
    • Britannic Africa: The African colonies expand by 5000 px. The Britannic government recognized the growing possibility of giving independence to its African colony, however the plan did not materialize.
[Mod Response Needed]
Prime Minister Syngman Rhee again asks Japan if it's okay to end the protectorate status on Korea; though it will continue to be a close ally of Japan and hopes for continued friendly relations with them either way. Meanwhile, the government continues the policy of neutrality in world affairs in general.
The space program continues to build satellites to send into space. A prototype ship is being built. Jobs are opening up in the building sections to help out with the space program. Factories are now continuing to make space parts for the space program.
The Newburg plan continues to reconstruct Europe.
BARD is expanded into a Space Agency, and begins to develop vehicles to reach Earth Orbit. The project is scheduled to send a man into space by 1960, with a man on the moon by 1965.
    • Spain wants to work with Borealia on this. We have rockets and a space program and Juan Scrawlandos.
    • Britannia expresses interest in cooperating with Borealia.
      • Borealia: The cooperation of Spain and Britannia is accepted.
  • United Kingdom of Germany: In 1955, the economy remains in shambles and instability gives solid fears to societal collapse. Constantinians continually push for more governmental change. However, their influences gradually wanes over the course of the year. A rift occurs in the Democrat-Federalist party between those who support the Constantianian faction and those who are solidly against it. Frederick Wahl, sensing that the Constantinians are vulnerable, publicly comes out against them, claiming them to be alarmists and fearmongers. The Democrat-Federalists then launch a media campaign against the Constantinians, using the same verbage as the Chancellor. Johanna Englebrat (D-Aus.) joins the Chancellor and shuns the Constantinians. The loss of favor for Constantinians may seem like a godsend for Liberals and Conservative, but this is not that case. The 1955 general elections pummel Liberals, resulting in a loss of over 65% of their seats in the Assembly, and losing ten seats in the Senate. Conservatives fair slightly better, being able lose only 40% of their seats and only one senatorial seat. Democratic-Federalists, even with their factionalization, undoubtedly come on top, gaining several dozen seats in former Liberal heartlands. Communist politicians and Nationalists follow the Democrats in gaining a few prized seats. Frederick Wahl unsurprisingly wins re-election in 1955. With the recent Liberal loss, many speculate that the party, responsible for modernizing Bavaria and leading the country through its 1870s revolution, may be soon dissolved. Others speculate that it faces a merger with either the Democrats or Conservatives. Regardless, by year-end, Liberal party officials make no official announcement concerning the end of the party. In other news, Constantinians achieve one small victory this year with the continual evolution of administrative divisions. The remaining portions of the Venezian commonwealth are abosorbed into Austria. Austria is also granted Salzburg, which has remained in Bavarian hands for centuries. There is much chagrin in Bavaria after it is separated from the Port of Bremen. Bremen itself is enlarged and made a province in the Northern Domain, now holding the city of Bremen for the first time in its history. Similar chagrin is felt among the Rhenish government after Munster is absorbed into Oldenburg. A proposal is made to split Saxony into Saxony and Thuringia, but that proposal is shot down in the Diet. Furthermore, prominent Senator Arturo Kurmann (D-Bav.) proposed to create the Province of Franconia, but that too is shot down. Also, the Diet attempts to democratize the election of senators and electors in Germany. Previously, both groups were elected in Commonwealth States while appointed in Commonwealth Kingdoms and Duchies. Now, with the abolition of the commonwealth system, and a general feeling of a new era dawning, lawmakers vote to make all Senatorial and Elector races decided by popular vote. Elites in the northern provinces chafe at the loss of their appointment privileges, but there are no further grumblings. In cultural news, Bavaria and Hamburg remain hotbeds of civic unrest. Pro-German groups continue to multiply and fester in Venezia, with Transitional Governor Englebrat doing nothing to halt their spread. However, in contrast with the demonstrations and sometimes violent protest, many disgruntled citizens in urban areas begin experimenting with art and music. A large number of graffiti crimes are reported in Vienna due to the large amount of spray-paint cans left over from WWII. Fears of civil war are still real as many fear Communist or Nationalist revolts, however the official Communist party rejects any societal uprising and projects itself as a party of peace and safety.

    • Northern Domain: The Northern Domain is made up of the Provinces of Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg and Oldenburg, with Governors heading each of them. In Oldenburg, the Duke is allowed to retain his seat in conjunction with a governor.
Melanie Leverenz leaves office at the beginning of the year, while Alfonse Benedetti, Conservative winner of the 1954 Bavarian elections, take her place. Leverenz pursue leadership in the UNBANC.
In response to the formation of the UNBANC, the legislatures of both Westphalia and Rhineland work in tandem to create a politico-economic union of their own. They continue working through the end of the year.
The UNBANC comes to life on January 1, 1955, and reveals its mission statement and core leadership status. The Union, its goal stated to "uphold the historic and long-lasting unity of the former Commonwealth States, as well as those members of the former Kingdom of Bavaria", is led by a Chairperson, ten-person executive council, and one-hundred and fifty person legislature. Melanie Leverenz, along with Oswald Klein and other prominent Bavarian politicians, run for the seat of Chairperson. The first election is to be held in late 1956.
Due to the area not being a core German territory, its citizenry has no real connections to Germany and many applaud their return to France.
  • Spain continues to recover from the war. Spain continues to promote its policies of peace in Europe and the whole world, but primarily in Europe. The wartime government is officially disbanded and elections are held. Jose Sabinas becomes the new Prime Minister, meaning a return to the Nationalist Party's control. The space program makes great progress due to Spain's position as a nation of greatly advanced technology. The administrator of the space program, Hernando Vasquez, announces that Spain will definitely have a man in space in two years. Later in the year, Spain launches the satellite QRD-Liberty-1, also simply known as Liberty, into space, and this monumental achievement is celebrated as the first major step into space. Meanwhile, the plans to give independence to the West African colonial region continues, with the colonies beginning to be divided along the borders that will form the new nations in future. The two nations that will receive independence first are the Republic of Yoruba and Oyo in 1960. In the East Indies, Spain seeks to release the East Indies, but many people there are clamoring for the unification of the island of Sumatra and other nearby territories before independence.
    • Algeria continues to recover from the war. The occupation of German West African territories ends as they are officially integrated into Spanish West Africa. The Sahara Desert continues to be used as a testing ground for Spanish technology. Algeria's economy is benefiting from the post war situation.
    • The Moroccan Principality annexes the former German territory of the Canary Islands. Meanwhile, Morocco's economy is doing well. Morocco lays claim to the entirety of the West Saharan Republic, as the legal successor to the Kingdom of Morocco.
    • The Malayan Federation annexes the German territories on the island of Borneo as a result of victory in the war. Malaya, due to its control over major regional locations such as Singapore and Malacca, continues to be a prosperous nation.
The Roman government continues to push for the completion of the Treaty of Constantinople, and Roman troops remain ready to fulfill the provisions as described. Nuclear research continues, and teh Sahara becomes a testing range for any detonations.
  • Reme: Reme begins to build up its military and economy. Reme elects a new president and starts to build up its navy. Meanwhile, trade is improved on, with industrialization, mainly former Byzantine areas slowly being introduced to populous areas.

    • Croatian Africa: Continues to expand.
    • White Croatia: Large-scale Croatization, numerous harsh measures are introduced to ensure White Croatia is Croatian.
  • Empire of Lanka: Emperor Dutugamunu II continues to control the throne. The government continues to focus all efforts on industrialization. Accelerated industrialization continues in Lanka due to things like the Waardige Accords, and the country's focus on it. The Empire recognizes the Australian declaration as status quo ante bellum. Although the Imperial Air Force exists, it has so far at most contained ten planes, the Empire begins investing a lot of money in the buying new equipment and planes. Lanka asks Rome to help train the army, navy, and air force in handling new equipment including tanks.
  • Republic of China: We send requests to all Asian nations, bar Japan, Korea and other Japanese vassals to join the Asian Defense Pact. (MOD RESPONSE NEEDED) Meanwhile, our military buildup continues, with our military now standing at 384,000 strong. We continue to try to stay technologically advanced, but despite this we are falling behind in tech again. We show a lot of interest in the current Lanka-Australia War, and begin giving aid in secret to Australia. Following up from this, we request an alliance with Australia.
  • Ruthenia: The Ruthenians continue research into nuclear energy.

The UNR, which has been testing rockets since 1950, begins the Hermod Program. The Hermod I rocket, which was built near Stockholm, will carry a dog to outer space by 1957. In the meantime, the Hermod II rocket will carry an artificial satellite, Mimir I. The North Atlantic Space Agency is founded in Oslo this year. Britannia and Algonquia are invited to join.
        • Algonquia accepts the Nordic proposal.
  • Lordship of Neu Norderney: Continues rebuilding from the war, and preparing for full independence and the withdrawal of Algonquian troops. The diplomats in Constantinople are convinced they are nearing a breakthrough in negotiations, and advise Lord Conrad IX that it may be advisable to abdicate in favour of his son in order to help the negotiations.

1956

  • Kingdom of Kuba: Expansion of the Kuban military continues. Construction of Kuba's first nuclear power plant continues. Kuba continues reaching out to the new world states, looking for recognitions of Kuba's status and Mary's rule.
  • Ruthenia: The Ruthenians continue research into nuclear energy.
Prime Minister Syngman Rhee again asks Japan if it's okay to end the protectorate status on Korea; though it will continue to be a close ally of Japan and hopes for continued friendly relations with them either way. Meanwhile, the government continues the policy of neutrality in world affairs in general.
  • Lordship of Neu Norderney: The diplomatic team in Constantinople make a breakthrough in the negotiations with Algonquia. Work begins on the swift assumption of full sovereignty and the ending of Algonquia's occupation. Conrad IX announces to the nation that he will abdicate the throne next year in favour of his young son, Conrad X.
  • United Kingdom of Germany: In 1956, the economy recovers slightly, but is still in sour conditions. Constantinians continually push for more governmental change, but their voice is not as wielding as it used to be. The ideological rift widens in the Democrat-Federalist party between those who support the Constantianian faction and those who are solidly against it. In 1956, after a year of incredible losses, the Marian Liberals, headed by Teodoro Verner, announces the dissolution of the party come 1957. This quashes rumors of a possible merger with the Democrat-Federalists, but many were still correct in predicting the Liberals demise. Frederick Wahl laments the loss of "one of the most prized political parties in German history".

Melanie Leverenz leaves office at the beginning of the year, while Alfonse Benedetti, Conservative winner of the 1954 Bavarian elections, take her place. Leverenz pursue leadership in the UNBANC.
In response to the formation of the UNBANC, the legislatures of both Westphalia and Rhineland work in tandem to create a politico-economic union of their own. They continue working through the end of the year.
Due to the area not being a core German territory, its citizenry has no real connections to Germany and many applaud their return to France.
The Roman government continues to push for the completion of the Treaty of Constantinople, and Roman troops remain ready to fulfill the provisions as described. Nuclear research continues, and teh Sahara becomes a testing range for any detonations. New designs for advanced nuclear weapons based around the principles of fusion rather than fission are drawn up, and official funding for testing is given. The Roman military also looks into other high profile weapons such as chemical weapons. Automatic rifles and advanced rocketry are also researched and produced to help keep the Roman military on edge.

    • Croatian Africa: Continues to expand.
    • White Croatia: Large-scale Croatization, numerous harsh measures are introduced to ensure White Croatia is Croatian.

1957

  • Republic of Britannia: Important infrastructural reforms were enacted in major cities, in order to modernize the Republic. With growing Britannic influence, and the beginning of a new era, the navy expanded rapidly using much of the Britannic expertise. Moreover, the influx of new resources in the form of lumber, labour and metals helped expanding the navy. Trade routes through the English Channel, the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean were strengthened, and coal mines around Northumberland, Durham, North and South Wales, Yorkshire, Scotland, Lancashire, the East and West Midlands and Kent were exploited. The Republic of Britannia continued to conduct espionage operations in Western Europe, specifially developing aircrafts for surveillance. The Republic developed their own ballistic missile and now started to develop nuclear weapons secretly entitled Cornwall Project. Meanwhile, Joint Space Programs with UNR and Algonquia as well as Spain and Borealia allowed Britannia to rapidly acquire technology from both sides and launch Trident X, the second artifical satellite into space.
    • Britannic Eire: The economy and the navy are developed.
    • Britannic Africa: The African colonies expand by 5000 px. The Britannic government recognized the growing possibility of giving independence to its African colony, however the plan did not materialize.
[Mod Response Needed]

  • Algonquia becomes increasingly interested in space exploration in conjunction with the North Atlantic Space Agency. Several test launches are made from the Zollern Insels and New Guernsey, where launches are significantly easier. A major base for such launches at Big Pelona on Grosse Zollern is developed, and Algonquia offers its use to the North Atlantic Space Agency. Although many troops are demobilized with the treaty of Constantinople nearly finalized, compulsory military service remains in place. Algonquian troops move into Svalbard and Greenland, along with some Algonquian settlers. Svalbard, in particular, is developed as a mining, whaling and sealing base. New Guernsey and the Zollern Insels are combined into the Caribien Republic, an Algonquian protectorate and associated state.
  • Brazil: The Lusofonia Comunidade is founded as an international organization and alliance of Portuguese-speaking countries and nations formerly under Brazilian control. The Administração Nacional Aeronáutica e Espacial (ANAE) is founded as an independent entity of the Brazilian Air Force, as a department under government control responsible for the exploration of space. Two decades of rocket research leads to the IM-9 Titã, as a line of intercontinental ballistic missiles, which are stationed throughout Brazil. The Titã is used to launch the first Brazilian satellite into space.

Stop with the implausible space satellite launches. Unless you have territory suitable near the equator to launch said devices, it's not happening. -MP

  • Kingdom of Kuba: in July, the newfound Kuban Royal Space Agency launches its first space-capable rocket, the Tyr I, into space from its facility west of Guantanamo. The rocket reached 65 miles in altitude before falling back to Earth, and snapped several photos of earth from its maximum altitude before doing so. King Mary and the Kuban Government authorize more funding for the nascent program.
  • 'Korea:' Korea continues to build up its military. Prime Minister Syngman Rhee again asks Japan if it's okay to end the protectorate status on Korea; though it will continue to be a close ally of Japan and hopes for continued friendly relations with them (seeing as Japan is inactive again, can a mod please post a response to this offer?). Meanwhile, the government continues the policy of neutrality in world affairs in general.
  • Spain continues to have the best god damn space program ever with the help of Borealia, Britannia, and other nations. The plans for West African independence continue. Spain continues to recover from the war. Spain makes another massive achievement when Spanish cosmonaut Pablo Irdana orbits the Earth. Later in the year, Spanish cosmonauts remain in space for over 8 days, meaning they will be able to be in space long enough to go to the Moon. Also, they prove that they can manipulate their spacecraft while in space. Spain declares war on Sumatra via the West Indies. Spain promises to put a man on the moon in two years. TV becomes a very popular item in Spain. Telecommunications begins to become a profitable and successful industry. The Spanish cinema also grows, centered around Valencia. Spain makes a ballistic missile submarine, the HMS Juan Scrawlando. Spain reaches out. to Rome, Britannia, France, and other European nations with the intent of forming a sort of European group. Prime Minister Sabinas is assassinated in Toledo and Juan Scrawlando III becomes the Prime Minister. Scrawlando ensures that he will continue the policies and ideals of his predecessor. Long live Spain.

    • Croatian Africa: Continues to expand.
    • White Croatia: Large-scale Croatization, numerous harsh measures are introduced to ensure White Croatia is Croatian.
  • United Kingdom of Germany: In 1958, the economy recovers slightly, but is still in sour conditions.

Melanie Leverenz leaves office at the beginning of the year, while Alfonse Benedetti, Conservative winner of the 1954 Bavarian elections, take her place. Leverenz pursue leadership in the UNBANC.
In response to the formation of the UNBANC, the legislatures of both Westphalia and Rhineland work in tandem to create a politico-economic union of their own. They continue working through the end of the year.
Due to the area not being a core German territory, its citizenry has no real connections to Germany and many applaud their return to France.

  • Kingdom of Kuba: economic recovery continues. Much of the country gets behind the Royal Space Agency as it again launches another Tyr I rocket into the upper atmosphere in the range of 65 miles in altitude. Some of the upgraded Tyr II and Tyr III rockets are constructed, with plans to launch Kuba's first satellite by 1961. Meanwhile, Kuba's first nuclear power plant goes online.

  • Empire of Lanka: Emperor Dutugamunu II continues to control the throne. The government continues to focus all efforts on industrialization. Accelerated industrialization continues in Lanka due to things like the Waardige Accords, and the country's focus on it. Laws that restrict Tamil culture and people continue. Although the Imperial Air Force exists, it has so far at most contained ten planes, the Empire begins investing a lot of money in the buying new equipment and planes. Lanka asks Rome to help train the army, navy, and air force in handling new equipment including tanks. With the Indian royal family exiled, some members in Lanka, and no clear claimant for the Indian throne, Emperor Dutugamunu II asks exiled Emperor Saddam Hussein if he can marry his oldest daughter, and claim the Imperial Indian throne [MOD RESPONSE]. Dutugamunu also references the relationship between Lanka and the Sunni Bengalis as we have been allies through two empires, and both parties have had a long history of assisting each other in warfare. The nations also share a dislike for Tamil Hindus. He discusses how this can lead to prosperity for both the Sunni Bengalis, and the Sinhalans.
  • Lordship of Neu Norderney: With the relevant sections of the Treaty of Constantinople signed by Algonquia and the NN diplomats, the nation celebrates its new independence. The money inherited from the Imperial German treasury is invested by the Government as a sovereign wealth fund. The navy is somewhat scaled-down, with the government focusing on quality, not quantity, whilst also recognising Neu Norderney's relative safety. The Chancellor of the University of Neu Norderney reiterates his offer to Borealia, Algonquia, et al to use the Father Georg Meister Space Observatory in the west of the country. In other news, the Prime Minister asks for Neu Norderney to join the UN.
Nuclear physics are explored in universities in the Empire, however, no major breakthroughs or accomplishments have been recorded and governmental support is low.
