If you are not part of the European Union you are not allowed to view this meeting under any circumstances.

This is the page for the 1st meeting of the European Union in the Dawn of War Map Game. All current members of the European Union: Switzerland, the UK, Norway, and Italy are invited to the meeting. The meeting is held in Zurich. All members of the EU can vote on issues.

European Rebuilding Efforts

Swiss Proposal:

  • All nations in the European Union are to aid in reconstruction efforts in Europe, with at least 1% of their GDP being spent on reconstruction efforts.
  • These reconstruction efforts will go to any nation that was on the Allied or Axis side in World War II in Europe.
  • Reconstruction efforts will last until 1951, with possible renewal if reconstruction still needs to continue.
  • These efforts may last for a shorter period of time if reconstruction is deemed by most EU nations as no longer necessary.

The Southern Defense Pact

British Proposal:

  • Members of the Southern Defense Pact are enemies of the EU due to their involvement with our national affairs.
  • Anyone who asks to join the SDP is automatically an enemy of the EU.
  • If any member of the SDP were to declare war on any member of the EU all members are required to join the war and help defend the EU nation.
  • If any member of the SDP embargoes any member of the EU all members are required to place an embargo on the SDP country.
  • The SDP is a threat to global stability and must be dissolved at once.

  • The United Kingdom
  • Norway
  • Italy

The Greek Civil War

British Proposal:

  • We should join in the military conflict and fight to end Communism in Greece.
  • We will provide defence for those in the South of Greece.
  • We will provide soldiers and equipment.
  • We will provide medical aid to injured Greek citizens.
  • We will provide special technologies and espionage.
  • We will participate in negotiations between the Greek parties as one body if the time comes.

Voting: CLOSED

Support:

  • The United Kingdom
  • Italy: We may not be able to supply much by way of equipment, but we will try.
  • France
    • British Diplomacy: Technically you are not a member until 1950 but we allow you to vote for this one proposal since it is dealing with a very important historical area of Europe.

Oppose:

  • Switzerland: Unless the Southern Defence Pact becomes involved, we are against. (Vote may change)
    • British Diplomacy: We would like for there to be peace in Greece and there is no way that can happen if a Communist or Fascist government is in charge. But if you do not wish to participate unless the SDP is involved then if this proposal is passed you will be exempt from it's terms.
    • Swiss response: We respect the democratic decision of the EU and will support it in its efforts.
    • British Diplomacy: Thank you.

Outcome: The proposal is passed.

The European Technological Alliance

British Proposal:

  • The European Technological Alliance (ETA) (formerly BINA) should become the technological branch of the European Union.
  • All members of the EU will work together and help to advance each other's military, domestic technology, and nuclear weaponry.
  • We have thought of the possibility of space exploration and think that with the ETA we can be the first nations to visit the moon and possibly other planets in the name of the EU.

Voting: CLOSED

Support:

  • The United Kingdom
  • Norway
  • Italy
  • Switzerland

Oppose:

Outcome: The proposal has passed.

The Position of Spain

British Discussion: When we asked Spain to join the European Union they declined due to their strict policy of neutrality. Yet they have recently applied to join the Southern Defence Pact, an organisation that is anti-imperialist, anti-NATO, isolationist, etc. and been accepted. So I have made a proposal.

British Proposal:

  • In the event that the SDP dissolves and Spain applies to join the European Union they will not be allowed in as a member.
  • At the most we will allow Spain to be a permanent guest of the EU but they will not receive the same benefits as other members.

Voting: CLOSED

Support:

  • The United Kingdom
  • Norway
  • Italy

Oppose:

  • Switzerland

Outcome: The proposal has passed

EU Headquarters

British Discussion: For the next few "years" our HQ will be in strategic locations all throughout EU member states but do you guys think we should make a permanent base or just construct buildings in specific locations in each nation to hold the annual EU meeting. By the way at these EU meetings there will be two types of (for lack of better word) discussions. One will be Proposals and the other one will be Discussions. Proposals will have voting but with discussions our diplomacy will talk about what we want to do and then voting can commence once we think we've reached a decision. (Please tell me what you think of this and if anything should be changed.)

  • Norwegian Diplomacy: We support the idea of building permanent HQ, but does it mean that we will also construct HQs for specific branches? (for example the ETA).
  • British Diplomacy: I think we should have buildings to host EU members in each nation (preferably in the capitol) but we will have one permanent headquarters. It will have different branches to host the different branches of the EU (like the ETA).
  • Italian Diplomacy: The main HQ should probably be in Switzerland, since a) they are renowned for their neutrality, b) it would be in the middle of a mountain range, and c) they were the ones who proposed the EU in the first place.
  • Swiss diplomacy: We support the Italian proposal, mainly because of reason 3. However, nuclear development should be based in the UK as they are most advanced in that area. We propose a vote on this suggestion.

Locations of Nuclear Weapons

Norwegian Discussion: Which strategic locations will we choose for storing nuclear weapons?

  • British Diplomacy: It should probably be the part of your country with the least amount of people but there should also be some close to the capitol and other important cities.
  • Swiss Diplomacy: Would the control of such weapons be in the hands of individual governments, the entire EU or a mixture of both?

A War in the Middle-East

British Discussion: Saudi Arabia has constantly been pestering us to leave our colonies in the Middle-East but we personally think that would be bad for everyone. Saudi Arabia seems to gradually be growing hostile and they joined SDP and have stated multiple times that they will sell oil only to the other members of their organisation. They have even stated that they are going to take a "different approach" to the problem. Now the Federation of the Americas is gradually militarising the area. I fear they may be planning on attacking our protectorates and colonies there and that is not an option. I ask all members of the EU to begin sending supplies and soldiers (if possible) to French and British territory in the Middle-East.

  • Swiss Diplomacy: In the event of any sort of colonial uprising, Switzerland offers aid and will send soldiers to the location.

Headquarters

Swiss Proposal:

  • The Permanent Headquarters of the EU will be in Zurich, Switzerland.
  • Individual nations may have a HQ for their own branch of the EU.
  • We shall vote upon the location of headquarters for all EU subdivisions, EG The European Technological Alliance.

Voting: CLOSED

Support:

  • Switzerland
  • Italy
  • Norway

Oppose:

Outcome: The proposal is passed.

Meeting adjourned. Thank you for your participation.
