  • Commonwealth Kingdoms: Emperor Friedrich dies this year at the age of 65, his son, Karl, succeeds him as King in the seven kingdoms. As the son of Friedrich, Karl calls for a new election for King of the Germans, Holy Roman Emperor, and Protector of the Commonwealth. An important milestone is that the coronation of Karl IV is the first widely broadcast to the people via radio. Whereas in previous coronations, the entrance of the soon-to-be-King into the coronation hall in Duke William Palace was announced to "Your Grace (to the Archbishop of Hamburg), Honorable Lords, Dignified Guests", Karl's was announced "Your Grace, Honorable Lords, Dignified Guests, and People of the Realm", to denote the much wider than previous audiences. After the coronation, Karl begins to secretly commission a project, dubbed the "Lübeck Project", to utilize nuclear technology to create a weapon of untold destruction, possible according to the calculations of Germany's leading physicists. He sends top secret information packets to the heads of the other German states, seeking their input before the Project officially begins.

The Indian population rose to about 741,772,000, and the flocking of the people to coastal cities continued, with a mass increase of population in Kolkata, Mahmudpur, Karachi, Mumbai, Surat and various other minor cities and townships throughout the state. The Indian army, equipped with modern armaments stood at 720,000 troops with an additional 500,000 reserves whilst the Imperial Guard was composed of 20,000 troops and the armament industry thrived on local and national level, with armaments rarely imported from foreign nations with Andea being the only exception case. The Indian navy experimented on aircraft carriers and had started production of larger classes of dreadnoughts ships, churning out first rate battleships for various fleets, and more third rates, and fourth rates with the occasional second rate to augment the smaller patrol fleets with 40% of the national navy harboured at the Andaman and Kolkata ports. In agriculture was the largest economic focus of India, exporting various crops to foreign nations with the international jute and cotton textile production largely under Indian control. Along the same time, the Indian Renaissance were in full swing, with movements such as the Young India movement having aided in national modernisation and a massive rise in literacy and education, with major developments in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, etc. Moreover, promotion of industrialisation and capitalism allowed the Imperial authorities to construct a Trans-National Railway, connecting the entire Empire as well as introduction of many other commodities such as telephones, bulbs, electricity. Exception progress in regards to radio waves had already allowed India to develop the Shahi antenna and the radio. The Indian espionage authorities had cooperated with scientists in this regard, and India had soon constructed thousands of numbers stations throughout its Empire, developing the best espionage network in Asia, rivaling that of the Roman Empire. The state also was keen to invest in its defense sector, generally to keep India protected from any foreign invasion. As such, the newly commissioned Agni V Tank was declared fit for service, and delivered to hundreds of brigades throughout India. Armament companies in India had also developed the Mahmud I and the Timurid III Tanks, which were to be tested by the military for their durability. Although not of considerable importance internationally, the Indian automobile industry was quite successful nationally and helped improve the transport conditions in the state. By 1940, 100% of the Upper Class, 59% of the Middle Class and 14% of the Lower Class possessed vehicles. These automobile companies also contributed to the state military, by offering various vehicles to be used for military transport. Meanwhile, the Indian authorities took a keen interest in developing ballistic missiles after having observed rocket tests in the Andaman Islands. Hence, the state developed a commission to fund research into and the development of missiles. On 14th of December, Empress Farah Shah fell seriously ill and was quickly transported to a hospital in Kolkata. In her absence, her son Syed Hashim Saddam Hamid Hussein Ashraf Shah bin Hakeem bin Malik Hashim was appointed as the acting Head the Indian Empire, him previously being the Crown Prince and heir to the throne.

With the threat of the Zulu eliminated diamond and gold industries can be fully exploited, and a mass immigration occurs to the region from other portions of South Africa, Hesperia and Europe. Settlement farther north increases at a rapid rate, and Brazilian explorers reach the Congo in the far north.
  • Borealia Flag 2 Union of Borealia: Both the economy and military improve across all the provinces of the Union. Oil produced from California, Alaska and foreign lands is imported to power plants throughout the nation, which in turn produce electrical energy for the entire continent. In order to save more energy, massive hydroelectric dams are constructed along the Navajo (OTL Colorado) and Amerigo (OTL Colombia) Rivers. The dingy industrial centers of major cities are done away with, and replaced with modern economic districts, filled with massive yet ornate skyscrapers based on the Neo-Gothic style. Even the capital building in New Vienna is renovated in this manner, with only Queen Frances Square remaining Baroque. Super manufacturing companies emerge from these cities and export their products worldwide. San Francisco and Mamterlliq continue to be the main centers of the gold and oil trade, as well as highly diverse communities bringing in many immigrants from East Asia. Large highways connect these cities together, bustling with transportation including automobiles, aircraft and electric trains. The cities are also filled with electrical lights based on fleuresent gas, as well as a thriving entertainment business such as movies and cartoons. The Romanesque party dies out and is replaced with the Gothic party, which for the time being stands as the leftist opponent of the Borealian school. Electrical machines for mass computation are developed, which take advantage of the smaller components created in recent years. Similar innovations are being implemented to create television. Nuclear power is also studied to replace oil. The Borealian Air force is established, with an aircraft carrier being constructed to take it out to sea. Research is being poured into the creation of rockets, with BARD performing experiments in the Andaman Islands. We continue to uphold the New Munich Declaration along with Algonquia, Reme, Mexaca, and Arcadia. In the Chinese 1940 General Election, the Chinese Nationalist Party crashes to 34% support. Meanwhile, the Conservatives shoot up to 48% support, meaning the Chinese Conservative Party takes power. The Conservative government begins the process of demobilisation of our troops, expecting an end to the war. With a ceasefire expected to be accepted, but with angry neighbours all around us, the Conservatives feel there is a need for protection and so requests vassalisation by the Roman Empire. We resort to the Romans because we have a hatred for all Tripartite members and Mongolia because of war and Borealia supported Mongolian vassalisation of China in discussion about it. With Rome as the closest power that may accept us, we turned to them.

Economic and civic policy are seen as key to improving stability and cohesiveness in the Empire. With that said, the Empire does have several foreign policy successes to note as well, mainly the unification of the Tartary and the return of order in the steppes. Trade continues to go well and the military continues to have a major part of Roman society, and new weapons like tanks, planes, and better submarines now play a significant role in the way the Empire wages war. The financial crisis affects the Empire badly, and the economy suffers and many go without work. The current administration works to help mediate the crisis even though it knows its days are numbered. The civil war in the caliphate forces the Empire and its ally Assyria to be on guard. We begin building thousands of factories so we become the 'supermarket' of the world. We begin to build hundreds of houses to keep up with the demand of workers. We invite immigrants to come work in this nation's factories.
    • The Union of Borealia sends engineers and industral goods to help Australia reach their goals.
    • Oldenburg: Also offers Australia any help it requires. (Also, I think building thousands of factories is a bit too much, too soon.)
  • Commonwealth Duchy of Oldenburg: Duke Wilhelm II dies after a protracted illness. He is succeeded by his son, Wilhelm III. Many people purchase the OMW Volksauto. Economy improves.
  • Commonwealth Lordship of Neu Norderney: Military improves.
  • Brazil: Work begins on a Brazilian foguete, or rocket, for the purpose of defense in our various territories. The first tests produce unguided solid-fuel rockets that could be used as anti-aircraft weapons. The largest rocket successfully tested becomes known as the F-2, and is believed to be the world’s first long-range guided ballistic missile. Using a liquid-propellant rocket engine, these weapons can be used to attack cities and other targets from long range. By the end of 1943 the nation is expected to have an arsenal of 2000 such missiles. Creation of special facilities for manufacture begin, and the missiles are mass produced. Additionally facilities are built in specific areas to utilize the new weapon. The first bomb shelters are created in major cities. In addition to privately operated bomb shelters popular among the rich, public bomb shelters are created in major metropolitan areas. In Sao Sebastião a five year plan is approved to create a metro system underneath the city, stretching to all corners of the city and its surrounding area. Additionally a secret plan is approved that will create a second metro below the public use one, much deeper and well reinforced. The second metro will connect strategic areas, and be operated for military or emergency purposes. The Armadura-III tank is created with additional armor and armaments. In the Brazilian air force a jet-powered fighter aircraft, called the Andorinha, is created and put into use. Railroad lines are expanded to connect all major cities in towns in Brazil. Additionally a railroad from Porto Natal is constructed to connect to major cities in Brazilian Africa.

No nukes until we have a World War to justify creating them. Any further mention of nukes will be retconed.

  • Borealia Flag 2 Union of Borealia: Both the economy and military improve across all the provinces of the Union. Oil produced from California, Alaska, and foreign lands is imported to power plants throughout the nation, which in turn produce electrical energy for the entire continent. A practical nuclear generator is produced and used to power New Munich. The Pacific Protection Sphere, based around the Treaty of Midway, continues to promote peace in the Pacific and East Asia. A global trade network is established to promote Borealian companies in Arabia, Africa, Australia, and India. The World Trade Center in New Munich is built this year as a symbol of the world economy. The Pacific Protection Sphere is expanded into the Indo-Pacific Trade Alliance. We ask to open trade with The Republic, Ethiopia and Madagasgar (mod response, please).

Regular (read: not Imperial) Shinto gains a few more followers as well, mainly along the coastline in Southeastern Korea, particularly in Busan, Jejudo, Ulsan, and the coastal cities and coastal towns of Southern Gyeongsang Province. Mahayana Tao-Shintoism also continues to grow, and begins gaining followers from the areas where Shinto is growing, with some Shintoists switching to Mahayana Tao-Shintoism. The military in the colony of Haejagang (해자강) continues to be on high alert and continues to heavily patrol the Korean settlements. Meanwhile, industrialisation and modernisation continue in Korea (similar to OTL Japan's Meiji Restoration). Monarch Hyomyeong continues investing in technology and science. The Hyundai Motor Company continues to build more cars.
  • Australia: We begin to improve trade on the Indian Ocean. This boosts the economy. We honour our alliance with Bevatra. We begin to buy oil from them. With the population divided; half being Catholic and half being Muslim, we begin to try to make them live together and not divide them up. This way they could make Australia more united. We begin building hundreds of factories so we become the 'supermarket' of the world. We begin to build hundreds of houses to keep up with the demand of workers. We invite immigrants to come work in this nation's factories.
  • Republic of China: After receiving no response, we continue to request a ceasefire with the Mongolians, who seem to have abruptly stopped their attack. We also request vassalisation from all European power interested to defend ourselves against Asian attackers. The Conservatives send a diplomat to India to convey the Chinese sorrows for the Empresses death. The diplomat also talks up the possibility of a Chinese-Indian alliance, seeing India as their one possible friend in Asia. With no Mongolian surrender, we offer India the chance to be cofounder of the Asian Defense Pact.
  • Commonwealth States (Bavaria): We continue to regulate the financial industry, adding more staff, divisions and leadership to our Office of Financial Crimes. Markus Wenderschell becomes the new head of the OFC and closely aligns himself with Vice-Governor Melanie Leverenz. Leverenz herself runs for Governor-General this year, and receives the support of Claiton Dietricher and party boss Hans Felipe Mazza. She wins by 53% against her Conservative opponent Mikael Uarisch. In other news, newly elected Leverenz dedicates her first year in office to modernizing the draft and conscription laws, allowing much more young men to safely explore the option of rejecting a draft without incurring punishment. At the same time, she and the Augsburg Diet work to create the Office of Military Volunteers, which is specially created to manage civilians in the military, encourage domestic support for the military and facilitate the entrance of more women and minorities into the armed forces. In other news, Bavarians are delighted when fellow Bavarian Erika von Greschaft is elected to be the new King of the Germans.
  • France experinces vast political upheaval with the rise of the French Glory party, a radical far left party which advocates the return of France to glory. The Party gains support immediately, mainly from working class and former soldiers. The Party leader, Claude Hugo, publishes a book, On Racial Warfare, which describes the superiority of the Frankish race, and inferiority and evil of the vile Bretons, who are seen as the mortal enemy of the Franks. Anti-Breton feeling is very high, and riots against Bretons becomes common. The government tries to crack down on the party. Economic revival begins. Eventually, the FGP merges with the current ruling party, and Claude Hugo becomes President. His first act is to desolve the commonwealth, and declare a new French Imperial Federation. He makes it clear that past wrongs will be righted.
  • Ruthenia: The Ruthenians continue to expand airship service.
  • Commonwealth Duchy of Oldenburg: Duke Wilhelm III congratulates the new Holy Roman Emperor on their election. In other news, the new, young duke's coronation takes place this year in Osnabruck cathedral. Economy improves. In scientific news, a Franciscan priest (who is also a professor of physics at the University of Osnabruck) stumbles across the discovery made a few years ago in Neu Norderney: that spiral nebulae appear to be traveling away from the earth. He begins doing research into what this might mean.
  • Commonwealth Lordship of Neu Norderney: Economy improves.
  • Roman Empire: The Roman Empire continues to recover from the shock of the Great War, in which many good Romans died. The Empire also focuses on its internal security and stability after noticing the power of the revolt in Africa and remembering painful memories of revolts in Italy and Egypt. Research in new areas of science continues. Nuclear physics are explored in universities in the Empire, however, no major breakthroughs or accomplishments have been recorded and governmental support is low.

Using irrigation from the Danube, Sava, Drava, Drina, Cetina, Una, Vrbaš, Kupa, Neretva and other rivers the fields in the kingdom are developed, used for crops such as wheat, rye and barley. With trade routes increasing and Croatia entering an era of peace and of stability, the development of new trade ships is issued. Stone mining is furthered as well as the timber industry. The need for these resources rises as urbanization carries on. Iron ores in Dugopolje, Zenice and at last the 'mud' ore in Vojvodina and Eastern Slavonia are to be exploited alongside the silver and copper ores more frequently and of better quality than the iron ores. The exploitation of iron ores in the Lika and Gorski kotar areas continues. The salt industry in Ston is funded by the government. The influx of resources from Dahomey aids the economy. However, the government makes sure that the gold arriving isn't immediately put on the market in order to control the inflation in the worth of gold. The silver mine in Srebrenica is mined. Kotor Saraka (Adelaide) continues to expand. Draganić continues his research.

1944[]

  • Commonwealth Kingdoms: the government approves the deployment of 200,000 troops to the French border. Emperor Erika sends an official demand for France to stand down its forces. Warships begin patrolling the English Channel and the Bay of Biscay.
  • Indian Empire: Emperor Saddam Hussein was proclaimed the Empress of India in 1944, starting a new era. The Indian espionage authorities had cooperated with scientists in this regard, and India had soon constructed thousands of numbers stations throughout its Empire, developing the best espionage network in Asia, rivalling that of the Roman Empire. In response to the introduction of the Borealian navy to the Indian Ocean, the Empire introduces its own navy to the Pacific Ocean. Moreover, all trade with Borealia is boycotted and the Borealians are expelled from the Andaman islands.

    • Khedivate of Aceh Darrusalam: The Capital of Aceh was Banda and the population was 19.5 million. The Aceh military was modernised, standing at roughly 30,000 with 10% of the national navy harboured at Aceh ports. In the economic sector, rice played the role as a major food crop to be exported. However, other important crops such as tea, sugarcane, mango and tobacco maintained a major presence in Aceh's exports as well. About the same time, the Aceh fishery, oil and mining industries were of significant importance as well. Major oil and gas reserves are discovered by Spanish and Indian experts in Aceh, who collaborate on the project as per the Treaty of Hague. With the arrival of the Juan Standardo Oilo Company, extraction of the oil begins. Indian geological experts discover huge gas deposits in Aceh, and immediately begin extraction
    • Indian Overseas Territories: Naval bases continue to be built to enforce claims on several islands such as Mauritius, Seychelles, Tromelin and Reunion. The Indian Navy attempted to enforce complete control over the Indian Ocean, aggressively patrolling the sea to combat Somalian pirates.
  • Korea: Korea continues to build up its military. Meanwhile, more Taoist and Buddhist temples are built. Taoism rises in popularity and gains more followers.
  • Ruthenia: The Ruthenians continue to expand airship service and infrastructure throughout Europe and Asia.
The cities are also filled with electrical lights based on fluorescent gas, as well as a thriving entertainment business such as movies and cartoons. The Romanesque party dies out and is replaced by the Gothic party, which for the time being stands as the leftist opponent of the Borealian school. Electrical machines for mass computation are developed, which take advantage of the smaller components created in recent years. Similar innovations are being implemented to create television. A practical nuclear generator is produced and used to power New Munich. The Indo-Pacific Trade Alliance greatly stengthens with the East African Trade Agreements, and thereby bringing in more of the Borealian navy into the Indian Ocean.
    • Colony of Kinshasa: With the incorporated French colony continuing to expand its lumber and mining companies with cheap labor picked up from surrounding natives an organized government forms along with some small villages. The border expands inward 750 px.
    • Colony of North Antarctica: A small base is established on Antarctica's northernmost peninsula, inhabited for most of the year. The lighthouse is completed this year, and becomes the tallest lighthouse in recorded history thus far.
    • The Grand Colony of Australian Antarctica: We build our first two new settlements. The Sydney and Brisbane (whatever their names are in this ATL). We invite Australian and Boreala scientists to come work in the Sydney and Brisbane station camps.
  • Spain continues to prosper as a center of the arts and learning despite economic hardship. The construction of new buildings, roads and other infrastructure continues. but government funded projects end as the government begins using money in other places in an effort to save the falling economy. Spanish businesses expand across Spanish territories and into other nations. The buildings rise higher and the trains run faster, especially in the major cities such as Zaragoza, Barcelona and Madrid. Cars and planes and all sorts of cool modern stuff. Spain continues to lay claim to Antarctica. The construction of ships and weaponry continues. Spain builds submarines. Boats and guns and cars. Spain increases the number of battle ready ships in the Royal Armada, although at a much slower rate. More automatic weaponry stuff. Spain extracts oil in West Africa and sells it to people. The Spanish colony of West Africa expands 16,000 sq km west. Croats in Dahomey retain their rights. Dahomey expands 16,000 sq km into the interior of Africa. British West Africa is incorporated into the Spanish colonial domains in Africa. Spain continues to develop better tanks. Planes improve. Spain continues to restore the Vega Line because of French militarization. Science and stuff. Woohoo technology! A group of Spanish scientists continue to explore the potential of nuclear and atomic physics. A separate group of government scientists begin to examine the military potential of this science. Other Spanish scientists work on jet powered aircraft. Spain begins to develop rocket technology and Spanish engineers create a rocket. Spain releases the Malay Peninsula and it merges with Singapore to form the Malay Federation. The remainder of the East Indies will be released as a nation in the near future. However, officials in the East Indies begin to call for the unification of the island of Sumatra. Spanish officials begin working with representatives of Algeria and Malaya to potential create a united community of Spanish territories worldwide. #NoMoreWikiaChanges
      • Algeria continues to manage its internal affairs. The deserts of Algeria begin to be used by the Spanish government as a testing ground for new technologies. Algeria begins talks with Spanish and Malayan officials to discuss the formation of a Spanish community. This idea is well received by Algerians due to common Spanish-Algerian cross-immigration and the relatively similar position already in place.
      • The Malay Federation is officially formed this year, combining the territories of Singapore and the Malay Peninsula. The Singaporean government remains in place until federal elections can be held the next year. Malaya joins the talks about the Spanish community.
      • The Moroccan Principality expands its military, adopting Spanish styles and technology. Morocco's economy expands due to increased commercial affairs with Spain and other associated territories. Morocco is not involved in the talks of forming a Spanish community due to the fact that it has only recently joined the Spanish sphere and retains relative autonomy and nationalist sentiment.
    • Republic of China: We continue to recover from our years of war, with our population slowly becoming happier. In the 1944 Chinese General Election, the Chinese Conservatives rise to 61% support, compared to 48% last election. As a result of this, the Chinese Conservatives stay in power with a majority. The Nationalists have crashed to a mere 4% support, a disaster for them, so the Chinese Nationalists officially decide to disband. We continue to request a Chinese-Indian Alliance.
  • Roman Empire: The Roman Empire continues to recover from the shock of the Great War, in which many good Romans died. The Empire also focuses on its internal security and stability after noticing the power of the revolt in Africa and remembering painful memories of revolts in Italy and Egypt. Research in new areas of science continues. Nuclear physics are explored in universities in the Empire, however, no major breakthroughs or accomplishments have been recorded and governmental support is low.
  • Reme: Reme begins to build up its military and economy. Reme elects a new president and starts to build up its navy. Meanwhile, trade is improved on, with industrialization, mainly former Byzantine areas slowly being introduced to populous areas. Lumber, cash crops, and other goods become a major export of Reme, and starts getting Reme a jump-start into the European economy. There is also the creation of New navy ships, to help modernize the Reman navy. Coal mines are built, and starts churning out coal at a consistent rate. Coal mining plants are also started to be upgraded. Reme also starts very slowly changing its focus to industrial things, with a nationwide railroad being considered to be built. Industrialization of river areas continue, as well as the production of textiles to cheaper the price of Reman cotton. Meanwhile, a Socialist-based party starts to gain seats in parliament, with plans to make Reme a more self-sufficient state. People are getting anxious over the threat of Communism to Reme, and vote on the crackdown of Communist sympathizers and their families. The Reman government is pleased that Pearl River has voted to join the Empire, and promises that their rights and property will be maintained. The Reman military is improved a bit in an effort to hold up its part of the Fraternal Alliance. The economy suffers a great deal, and as a result the Socialists and outlawed Communists get a bit too eager in their expression that they have the correct answer, resulting in many demonstrations and some riots.
    • Protectorate of Wolof: Wolof begins to build up its military and economy. Reman food and supplies come in to help the formerly starving nation, as well as the Reman military to help sustain order. Some representation is given in the Reman Parliament, to give Wolof a minimal say in how Reme should be run. Meanwhile, plans to industrialize the coastal areas as well as plans for fortifications are presented, and are started being worked on.
  • Ban Republic of Croatia (Banska Republika Hrvatska): Sewerage systems similar to Ragusan ones are built in major towns of theBan Republic. With growing Ragusan influence, and the beginning of further colonization, the navy expands rapidly using much of the Ragusan expertise. Moreover, with the influx of new resources in form of lumber, labour and metals, the navy begins expanding at a fast rate. More and more ships capable of crossing the Atlantic with ease are built. The Sabor intends to restore the glorious naval culture of the Neretva peoples and plans to do so by expanding the navy. The kravata (tie) is more and more used as an accessory. Trade routes are strengthened and the salt mines around Tuzla are explored as well as the salt industry in Pag and Nin.
    • Isles of the Archvoivodeship (Otoci Nadvojvodstva): The infrastructure is built up.

    • Croatian Africa: Continues to expand.
    • White Croatia: Large-scale Croatization, numerous harsh measures are introduced to ensure White Croatia is Croatian.
  • Commonwealth Duchy of Oldenburg: Earnestly and strongly calls upon France to stand down its mobilised troops, and tells it that if France has issues over the status of Elass-Lothringen, they should come to the negotiating table. In other news, the military is built up. Fr Georg Meister continues his investigation into the ramifications for the discovery of the expansion of the universe. The Patriotic Front has a slight surge in popularity following France's actions.
  • Commonwealth Lordship of Neu Norderney: The nation's economy improves.
  • Andea: Andea's economy finally shows signs of recovering as the new government comes in and begins to implement new systems such as Price Administration. The debate about the constitutionality of this is limited, as the focus remains on economic growth. The new policies focus on "Trickle Up" or Demand Side economics. The military is set at 500,000 active men and 500,000 reserve men, new submachine guns and even a prototype assault rifle is added to the Andean military. The navy remains large with several aircraft carriers. Further developments into this type of naval vessel continue, with more being added to the military. Population stands at 123 million. An Andean researcher picks up on the research of the Borelian scientist who discovered atomic physics. We affirm solidarity to our allies.
    • Union of Sudafrica: Continues to make leaps and bounds. The nation is officially made into a commonwealth of Andea, and is making strives toward independence. The nation requests to deepen ties with Brazil's South African Colonies.

  • Commonwealth Kingdoms: Troops stationed on the French border are pulled back in preparation for the plebiscite, which is to be held next year. Meanwhile, on October 20, 1945, the first atomic test is conducted on South Auck Island (OTL Auckland island). At approximately 0329, the test bomb is detonated, as one technician would describe, "the alarm sounded, warning us of the impending detonation. I donned my eyewear in order to protect my sight. When the explosion occurred, the tower which had held the bomb, and the field surrounding it, vanished in a brilliant light. Even wearing the eye protection, I had to avert my eyes. It was as if I had stared into the heart of the sun. I glanced back, and the field had spawned a mushroom-shaped cloud, still glowing from the explosion. The head rose past the clouds and rose until its light extinguished. We rode out to where the tower had stood when light came, and found only warped and twisted scraps of metal surrounding a crater which was all that was left. The experience awestruck me, for it was as if we summoned the fist of an angry god of old, for it to come down like a boxer's punch and strike that piece of earth." After the test, the government approved additional funding for the Lübeck Project and the whole thing continued to be classified as top secret.
  • Sorry Guy, but unless I've missed a new development, the 1942 mod event makes clear there are not to be nukes until there is a war to justify them. Callumthered (talk) 23:18, July 31, 2015 (UTC)
  • France: In response to Germany sending troops to the border, demands a plebiscite be held to determine the future of Alscae-Lorraine. Claude Hugo dies and a new French Chancellor is chosen, who withdraws some, but not all, of the anti-Breton policies. Military and economic expansion continues with aircraft carriers being researched.
    • Germany: Will hold a plebiscite ONLY if French forces back away from the border (once they do, Germany will demilitarize its side of the border as well). We want to inform France that citizens in the region may vote any way they please, and the French government would do well to accept that reality, even if the vote isn't in the latter's favor.
    • France: Agrees to withdraw its troops from the border. Now, on to the plebiscite!

    • Republic of Denmark: Denmark capitalizes on the fall of Pskov. With money flowing into the Kattegat and out of Pskovian wallets, there is one undoubted ruler of the Baltic Seas now. Former Communists flee to Jutland since Denmark is a Socialist state. Prime Minister Albert Wagner celebrates the end of the Great War, condemning Communism as a perversion of state-sponsored welfare. He worries that the actions of France have harmed Socialist movements in Europe, setting them back decades. In the meantime, a new destroyer is added to the Danish navy. There are over 120 ships in total flying Danish colors. The Nordic Republican Air Force is created this year. Before this year, the thirty planes at the UNR's disposal actually fell under the jurisdiction of the navy.

Several covered cruisers, which saw action in WWI, are scrapped this year and used for parts for newer ships.
    • Commonwealth of Iceland: Iceland proposes the Helluland Proclamation, which would make Helluland an independent nation, albeit allied with the United Nordic Republics and their interests. Proponents of the Proclamation believe that the time for Helluland's independence has long since passed. Opponents believe that such an act would only encourage warmongering from Algonquia. The Helluland Proclamation does not pass. An air force base in Rejkyjavik is established this year. Iceland requests to purchase the German strip of territory in Greenland.
  • Australia: We begin to improve trade on the Indian Ocean. This boosts the economy. We honour our alliance with Bevatra. We begin to buy oil from them. • The Moroccan Principality expands its military, adopting Spanish styles and technology. Morocco's economy expands due to increased commercial affairs with Spain and other associated territories.
  • Republic of China: China continues to request an alliance with India, wanting to have at least one friend. We also finish demobilising, with our standing military now at extreme peacetime levels of 80,000. We continue to try desperately to boost our economy and stop stagnation. After realising we will not survive without friends, we request to join the Tripartite Pact. We completely repel the Mongolian invasion due to no Mongolian action.
  • Commonwealth Duchy of Oldenburg: The government praises the Imperial German, and French governments for their successful defusing of the situation in Elass-Lothringen. Duke Wilhelm III calls on both sides to respect the results of the plebiscite, regardless of the outcome. Father Georg Meister publishes the results of his research in a paper titled On the Origin of the Universe, concluding that the universe started as one "primordial egg" billions of years ago. Many of his fellow scientists initially reject the hypothesis, saying that Meister has been swayed by his religious beliefs in a universe with a beginning. However, when they look more closely at the evidence, it does appear fairly compelling. Economy improves.

The 35 percent is split between joining France and becoming independent. Now that the agreed upon plebiscite has been held, Germany expects France to abide by the will of the Alsacians.
  • How did you get this result? I think an impartial group (mods) should carry out some sort of RNG to determine the result. ~ Scraw
    • These are the results that Cookie and I agreed to. There's no rule that requires mod intervention in a referendum inside a player-run state.
    • So basically you had Spar take down his military in exchange for you to say no to his demand? Seems legit -Nathan
    • No, we both pulled our militaries back from the border in order to have a referendum, which we both did. -Guy
  • Ruthenia: The Ruthenians continue to expand airship service and infrastructure throughout Europe and Asia.

France declares that Germany had set the vote in Alsace in their favor, and demands a recount. The ambassador to the Roman Empire demands something is done to support the French oppressed in Alsace, and 200,000 troops move to militarizes the border with Germany. Research into scientific warfare begins.
    • German Dip: as is standard in elections, the results go through several recounts before the results are published. Germany therefore demands that France demilitarize its side of the border, as it acknowledged beforehand that the results might not go its way.
    • France points out that the recounts aren't done yet, and it will know if the vote was tampered with.
    • The Grand Colony of Australian Antarctica: We build two new settlements - the New Adelaide and New Melbourne (whatever their names are in this ATL). Research in new areas of science continues. Nuclear physics are explored in universities in the Empire, however, no major breakthroughs or accomplishments have been recorded and governmental support is low. The Roman Empire asks its ally, the Tartary, as joint leaders of the Holy League, to withdraw from the Tripartite Pact, as the members of the pact have only ever hurt the Turkic peoples. (Mod Response, Please)
    • The Tartary withdraws.

• Republic of China: The Chinese population is becoming happier all the time the Conservatives are in power, leading them to think only a major crisis could drive them out of power in the next election. Rebuilding from the disastrous wars that China was recently involved in is doing well and we may be able to survive someone invading us in the future. With less money going toward keeping the troops mobilised, we decide to improve our technology, which is currently at World War I levels. We make quick progress, developing pre-crash era tanks and planes. Meanwhile, research into nuclear technology begins, after hearing other nations are looking into that technology, beginning the development of Chinese nukes.

The Indo-Pacific Trade Alliance greatly stengthens with the East African Trade Agreements, and thereby bringing in more of the Borealian navy into the Indian Ocean. In light of India's aggression, Borealia declares war on the Tripartite pact. We ask all Pacific nations, the Union of Borealia and Hesperia, and the Holy League to help bring them down. The Borealian navy, with the new aircraft carriers, are deployed from their stations in the Indian Ocean.

  • The Glorious Empire of Japan: Emperor Hidehito having succeeded in rearming his nation with advanced warships and weapons eyes the brewing war with unease. The populations of Japan, and her client states in China are wary of major conflicts despite their proud ways. a decently large segment of Japanese society, recently risen from poverty to middle class life, feels as if a war would only bring ruin to the economic prosperity Japan has been building. Large protests over the possibility of war occurs in the streets of eleven major Japanese cities within Japan itself. Additionally there are nearly violent protests in many client state capitals. The great division among the populace of Japan prompts the Emperor to send a secret message to the leaders of Rome and Borealia, as leaders of their respective alliances, asking them to consider Japan a neutral party. As it stands roughly 45% of Japanese disfavor war, 40% favor it and 15% are undecided. With laborers earning better wages and spending more hundreds of thousands rise out of poverty. The economy holds steady as high consumer spending promotes growth. A new minimum wage, equal to 12 Yen an hour is established. The wage is enough to support a decent standard of living for two people and an acceptable standard of living for three.

The Roman government acknowledges Japanese neutrality, and also asks its allies in the Holy League to back up possible military action. With unanimous agreement from the other members, Roman and HL forces mobilize rapidly and invade the Caliphate while the Roman navy links up with the Borealians to blockade India and the Persian Gulf. Three fronts are created, one in Mesopotamia and the Hejaz, one in Somalia, and one in Central Asia. To help with the war in India, economic and military aid is sent to China to help persuade them to take sides. (Before anyone asks, I asked sky, a neutral mod, about the Holy League, and he said yes.)

        • Algeria continues to manage its internal affairs. The deserts of Algeria begin to be used by the Spanish government as a testing ground for new technologies. Algeria, as a member of the Imperial Federation, has the choice of joining wars on its own, so Algeria does not consider war with India. However, many in the Algerian government are in favor of a land war with Germany in Africa and joining France.
        • The Malay Federation expands its new military, getting much of the technology and weaponry left behind from the Spanish period. Also, the economy improves due to the inclusion of Singapore and other major commercial locations. The Malay People's Party remains in power. Malaya retains the choice to go to war but does not officially have a vote.
        • The Moroccan Principality expands its military, adopting Spanish styles and technology. Morocco's economy expands due to increased commercial affairs with Spain and other associated territories. Morocco is also interested in joining Algeria and invading Germany, but this is not official yet.
Population stands at 125 million. An Andean researcher picks up on the research of the Borelian scientist who discovered atomic physics. In order to end German arrogance and cease their backwater politics, Andea declares war on Germany and calls on the following nations to support her:
    • Brazil
    • Emeraldie
    • Guyana
    • Mexaca
    • Borealia
    • Reme
    • Algonquia
  • If Mexaca declares war, then Andea will invade Belize with her allies. If not, then full support will be sent to France.
  • Borealia sends economic support to Andea in hopes to fulfill the New Munich Declaration
    • Union of Sudafrica: Continues to make leaps and bounds. The nation is officially made into a commonwealth of Andea, and is making strives toward independence. The nation requests to deepen ties with Brazil's South African Colonies.
  • Brazil: After years of developing rocket technology and air defense facilities, the first network of F-2 rocket defense facilities is opened in Brazil and in Africa. Bomb shelters are built across the nation to defend the population during an attack. Additionally jet fighters and bombers become the standard in the military and are mass produced. Additionally rockets and bombs are constructed equipped with chemical weapons. Research begins on an implosion-type nuclear weapon, which scientists in the government believe are possible to construct. The first domestic facilities for creating highly enriched uranium are unveiled. Brazil mobilizes its reserves and begins conscription, with soldiers being trained and armed. Brazilian soldiers are transferred to the African colonies, where similar mobilization begins, creating a force of one million soldiers raised in the region. War is declared on the nation of Germany to aid the nation of Spain, and we begin plans for an assault on German colonies in Africa. Brazil’s aircraft carrier, the Nova Lusitânia, is transferred to the coast of Africa, alongside four battleships, twenty-five destroyers, and numerous other fleets. An attack is launched against Cameroon, consisting of F-2 rocket bombardments, bombers from land and sea, and ground based artillery. The one million soldiers is moved into the territory, quickly overwhelming the native garrison. The Nova Lusitânia continues up the coast, aiding in the Spanish invasion of other German colonies, before defending Brazilian elements during the seizure of the Canary Islands. With every German colony surrendering by the end of the year, Brazilian officials in the Transvaal propose the Treaty of Vinicia to cede the African territories in their entirety to Brazil and Spain, however, when negotiations break down, a high sense of jingoism leads the government to continue the war effort. The São Sebastião, six battleships, thirty-five destroyers, and numerous other ships are moved to the Pacific, where an invasion of New Rugia is launched. The amphibious landing is spearheaded by Brazil and Guiana, as well as numerous allies in the Pacific Union. The vast network of naval bases and defenses in the Pacific as part of the union allows the Brazilian fleet to quickly move around the vast ocean, aiding the Spanish in the seizure of Brunei in the north as well. The metro in São Sebastião is completed, as well as the secret second metro much further underground.

  • Commonwealth Kingdoms: in light of the French aggression, and the betrayal by Lombardy and Netherlands, Emperor Erika and King Karl of the Commonwealth Kingdoms call for a mass emergency conscription, setting the goal of 13 million fighting men. The female workforce is ordered to be doubled as men move to the war zone. Nuclear research on South Auck Island is redoubled, with the first test expected early 1950. The alliances with Croatia, Spain, Ruthenia, and Rome are called upon. With the war coming to the German citizens of New Rugia, the German army and navy disengages from Borneo, leaving it to the Brazilian invaders. The forces previously stationed in Borneo move to New Rugia to help in its defense. Likewise, German army and navy units disengage from the African colonies, heading north to aid in the defense of Germany's European land.
  • Commonwealth States: Governor-General Melanie Leverenz is appalled at French and Dutch aggression. We enact emergency conscription laws, being able to raise eight million troops by year end. Research is also started toward nuclear weaponry and technology, hoping to end the war in the near future.
  • Korea: Korea continues to build up its military. Meanwhile, more Taoist and Buddhist temples are built. Taoism rises in popularity and gains more followers.
  • Lombardy: Our military is continuing to increase due to technology becoming better. Factories still make weapons and vehicles for our military but they are not the mostly made items. With the increase of factories in the nation, more jobs are being created. The employment rate has continued to increase in the nation. Agriculture is the best industry in the nation. The railway industry is continuing to work on improving the tracks. Doctors are now continuing to use new technology to make people better. Cars are one of the only ways to get around these days besides using the train. Trade goes well with the Roman Empire. The navy continues to build ships for trade and for future tensions. We continue to build many buildings like hospitals, colleges and banks. We send one million troopers into southern Germany and attack Germany in Venice and other cities in southern Germany. We send ships to the ports in Venice and blockade Germany to the south.
  • Republic of Nederlanden: We deliver our declaration of war to the arrogant Germans, attempting to revenge the loss against the Germans last time. Our forces cross the border, and several battles occur.
  • Ruthenia: The Ruthenians continue to expand airship service and infrastructure throughout Europe and Asia.
  • Commonwealth Duchy of Oldenburg: The Duke and his government are shocked and appalled by the aggression of France, and ready the military for the seemingly inescapable onslaught. Conscription is initiated. Andea is reminded that it signed the Fourth Treaty of Chan-Chan, which requires it to recognise the borders of the other signatories, including Germany.
    • Andea reminds Germany that it never agreed to adding Germany to the treaty. Because Signing that treaty means joining the Union, Andea would have to have approved it as well.
    • Oldenburg informs Andea it had ample time to repudiate Germany's accession (at the invitation of Borealia) to the treaty prior to its suddenly becoming politically expedient to do so now.
    • Andea points out that, by this logic, Germany is part of a transnational union and a member of either New Munich or the Hesperian League. The Treaty does not state that War can not happen between Signing nations, just that if war happens they need a hearing of member states.
    • Oldenburg would relish such a hearing, so that the utterly unprovoked nature of Andea's attack can be brought to the attention of the whole world. If any nation can claim a moral high ground in this war, it is not Andea.
    • Not only is Germany not in the treaty, as if you read the page the nation of Germany is essentially an observer ("representatives of the Other German States"), but the treaty only pertains to Borealia and Hesperia anyway. The treaty is not a military alliance, so Andea has no reason to aid Germany whatsoever. The only thing Andea is supposed to do is ensure the borders of Neu Norderney stay the same, and no infringement has been made against Neu Norderney. If anything isn't Callum in the wrong, since he's the one who had Neu Norderney mobilize against Andea?
  • Neu Norderney is a constituent state of Germany. Declaring war on Germany is therefore also declaring war on Neu Norderney. Neu Norderney had to mobilise its military to assist the rest of the German nation, of which it is an integral member-state. I never asked Andea to come to Germany's aid, merely to not wage war against it.
  • In that case Neu Norderney isn't eligible to join the treaty anyway. The treaty is for Borealian and Hesperian states only, and I assume it was invited because of a miscommunication on the legal status of Neu Norderney at the time. Also it's kind of a loophole to think that a treaty applying only to a single area applies to all of Germany using the transitive property. Just because Andea agrees to preserve the borders of the state of Neu Norderney, and Neu Norderney is in Germany, doesn't mean Andea agrees to preserve the borders of Germany, just that one part of it.
  • It was made clear and understood by all parties involved (including Nathan) that the inclusion of Neu Norderney meant the de facto inclusion of all of Germany's new world member states. -Guy
  • "new world member states" so Germany proper is not included? Do you pick and choose your constuite states? really, only Neu Norderney was supposed to be an actual member because that state has considerably more autonomy than any other German state. -Nathan
  • "Considerably more autonomy" ?? ... No, sorry. Neu Norderney is on full political and economic terms as any other German commonwealth. It's not a more autonomous state, it's not less, it's fully equal with all other German states. -Cookie
  • Commonwealth Lordship of Neu Norderney: The military is mobilised to protect the United Commonwealths. Algonquia is kindly asked not to take part in Andea's unprovoked and treaty-breaking attack on Germany.
Population stands at 125 million. We adopt The Brazilian Rocket Program/desgin and begin producing them to use for the war in Europe (Note: Right now I am only sending support to the war in Europe, and I am not invading anything on my own) An Andean researcher picks up on the research of the Borelian scientist who discovered atomic physics. In order to end German arrogance and cease their backwater politics, Andea declares war on Germany and calls on the following nations to support her:
    • Emeraldie
    • Guyana
    • Mexaca
    • Reme

France continues its invasion of Germany, and begins a massive conscription drive to rally the nation against the Germans. The army is expected to rise to about four million men soon, and tanks, aircraft and other military vehicles are produced and sent to the front.

The Indo-Pacific Trade Alliance greatly stengthens with the East African Trade Agreements, and thereby bringing in more of the Borealian navy into the Indian Ocean. With the war lasting longer than expected, and unintentionally escallating into a global conflict, the Curia begins to investigate greater technologies to end the war if necessary. A secret collection of scientists codenamed the "Fransicene Project" works on nuclear research at an undisclosed location in east Borealia. Other members of the Union are secretly encouraged to look into such research as well, and all results are forwarded to the foreign research lab in Madrid. The project is estimated to be completed in 1953, but hopefully the war will be over by then.
  • Australia: We continue to improve trade on the Indian Ocean. This boosts the economy. We honour our alliance with Boreala, our father nation, by declaring war on India. We continue are war against India. We continue to buy oil from them. With the population divided; half being Catholic and half being Muslim, we begin to try to make them live together and not divide them up. This way they could make Australia more united. We continue building hundreds of factories so we become the 'supermarket' of the world. We begin to build hundreds of houses to keep up with the demand of workers. We invite immigrants to come work in this nation's factories. We build our military and infrastructure. We say to ANY nation that if they declare war on India, Australia would transport two thousand of the nations criminals to Australia and take them to an Australian prison. This means new prisons are built to hold the potential new prisoners.
    • The Grand Colony of Australian Antarctica: We build two new settlements - the New Wollongong and New Southport (whatever their names are in this ATL). We invite Australian and Boreala scientists to come work in all six station camps. The names of the camps are now; New Darwin, New Sydney, New Brisbane, New Perth, New Adelaide, New Darwin, New Canberra, New Wollongong, New Southport and New Melbourne (whatever the names are in this ATL).
  • Brazil: Due to the swift takeover of German colonies in the war, the tactic of attacking forces spearheaded by a dense concentration of armoured and motorized or mechanized infantry formations with close air support, breaks through the opponent's line of defense by short, fast, powerful attacks and then dislocating the defenders, using speed and surprise to encircle them, becomes known as Guerra Relâmpago, or “Lightning War”. The war leads to a giant surge in aerospace technology, as well as the development of mechanized vehicles, tanks, and other war time industries. With Africa now completely secured by Spanish and Brazilian forces, planes and rockets begin to be transferred to northern Africa, and bombing campaigns begin on German soil. Until the German surrender, a near constant barrage of bombing begins. Chemical weapons are also used heavily along the French border to massive effectiveness, making it nearly impossible for the Germans to heavily advance on the western front. Development of a nuclear weapon continues, and is aided by the capture of Germany’s research in New Rugia. Construction and development of naval forces are heavily increased. More to be added. With Africa secured, forces are moved from Africa to New Rugia, and remaining territories in Africa declare War.
  • Emeraldie: We declare war on Germany and organise mass mobilization. Alongside, this we launch an offensive into the German Pacific using our Pacific fleet (with some ships transferred from the Caribbean stations). German ships, including freight and passenger ships, are banned from using the Emerald Canal. Mass aerial bombardment is sent against German military positions in Kuba. Queen Joan gives a speech on the dangers of a German victory.
  • The Glorious Empire of Japan: Emperor Hidehito sees an opportunity. The Germans, having pulled the majority of their troops in the Pacific to defend Borneo have left New Zealand vulnerable to invasion. While the nation is still generally against getting involved in the massive war now encompassing most of the globe their willingness to seize island territories in the Pacific is evident. A task force is prepared to invade the island consisting of many thousands of Japanese soldiers and several hundred tanks. However, for now, the emperor waits, spreading propaganda of a swift victory over the embattled Germans. (Not actually a declaration of war, but rather mobilization of a portion of the armed forces.) On the homefront the war takes a toll on trade, but does provide a boost to industry as internal manufacturers replace international sources of goods that have been destroyed by the war. This double edged sword still allows the economy to grow a solid 6.5%.
    • The Imperial Colony of Borneo: The colony expands 24,000 sq km along the eastern coast of Borneo and improves transportation across the island.
    • The Imperial Colony of Sulawesi: The colony expands 24,000 sq km southward. Meanwhile, a rail line begins construction to link the north of the island to the south.
  • Roman Empire: The Roman Empire continues to recover from the shock of the Great War, in which many good Romans died. The Empire also focuses on its internal security and stability after noticing the power of the revolt in Africa and remembering painful memories of revolts in Italy and Egypt. Research in new areas of science continues. Nuclear physics are explored in universities in the Empire, however, no major breakthroughs or accomplishments have been recorded and governmental support is low. Three fronts are created, one in Mesopotamia and the Hejaz, one in Somalia and one in Central Asia. To help with the war in India, economic and military aid is sent to China to help persuade them to take sides. (Before anyone asks, I asked sky, a neutral mod, about the Holy League, and he said yes.)
    • Isles of the Archvoivodeship (Otoci Nadvojvodstva): The infrastructure is built up.
    • Ban Republic of Carantania (Banska Republika Karantanija): Being an Alpine Slavic nation, the leaders begin a programme to create a standardized Carantanian language that will reflect on both the Slavic and Alpine (Germanic) aspects of Carantania.
    • Sukadang Županija: Croatization. Expansion onto the other parts of Borneo.
    • Croatian Africa: Continues to expand.
    • White Croatia: Large-scale Croatization, numerous harsh measures are introduced to ensure White Croatia is Croatian.
The non-government group contacts the government about the potential of an atomic weapon. They begin to cooperate on possibly developing such a weapon. Other Spanish scientists work on jet powered aircraft. Spain continues to develop rocket technology and Spanish engineers create a rocket. With the Borealian declaration of war on India, Spain officially joins the fight as both houses of Parliament vote in favor of declaring war, in order to honor the alliance with Borealia and end the menacing presence of India. Spain also calls upon all noble and righteous nations to join this proper cause. The Royal Armada is sent to the Indian Ocean to join the navies of the allies of Spain against India. The Armada establishes beachheads in southern India. The Spanish forces attempt to recruit local resistance groups and minorities with promises of freedom and victory if they rise up against their overlords. The war in India is hard and brutal due to the sheer manpower of India, and many Spanish lives are lost. Prime Minister San Nicolas calls it the "greatest tragedy of our time" but also "paramount for any nation that seeks to claim that it is free and righteous." #NoMoreWikiaChanges
          • Algeria continues to manage its internal affairs. The deserts of Algeria begin to be used by the Spanish government as a testing ground for new technologies. Algeria, as a member of the Imperial Federation, has the choice of joining wars on its own, so Algeria does not consider war with India. However, Algeria officially votes to launch an invasion of German West African territories.
          • The Malay Federation expands its new military, getting much of the technology and weaponry left behind from the Spanish period. Also, the economy improves due to the inclusion of Singapore and other major commercial locations. The Malay People's Party remains in power. Malaya sends men and supplies to Spain to aid in the war against India. Many in Malaya are considering an invasion of Aceh to establish complete dominance in the region. Malaya also sends limited aid to the Brunei front, but only as much as is allowed by executive privilege. The Malayan legislature does not officially declare war.
          • The Moroccan Principality expands its military, adopting Spanish styles and technology. Morocco's economy expands due to increased commercial affairs with Spain and other associated territories. Morocco officially declares war on Germany and Morocco sets sail to invade German West African territories.
  • Algonquia: Sends aid to Andea, but declines to invade Neu Norderney or fully declare war on Germany. Algonquia also sends aid to Borealia in its conflict against India, including supplies and an expeditionary force of 45,000 men.

1949[]

  • Commonwealth Kingdoms: while the war rages on in Germany proper and New Rugia, on July 20, the research station on South Auck Island, to everyone else an uninhabited island in an unimportant far-flung archipelago, the Lübeck Project comes to fruition. The experience awestruck me, for it was as if we summoned the fist of an angry god of old, for it to come down like a boxer's punch and strike that piece of earth." Dubbed the "Sun-bomb", details on it are loaded onto a submarine, part of Wolfpack to head back to Germany by way of the Atlantic. Meanwhile, the research facility is put to the torch. Leaving South Auck Island on August 4, they successfully arrive in Cuxhaven, Bavarian Bremen on December, 25. Emperor Erika authorizes the construction of sun-bombs capable of being carried on bombers, and being placed in the nose of a rocket.
  • ICBMs didn't become a thought until 1953 and didn't come to be a reality until 1957. Way too early. ~Edge
    • Brazil already landed in South Auckland and captured the research facility there. Even so, how would Germany continue their research in an active battlefield, and attempt to keep such a weapon secret? Also how would the information be able to flee when New Rugia is under siege?
    • South Auck Island is three hundred miles to the south New Rugia. No one knows anything is there besides privileged, high-level people in the government and military. South Auck isn't an active battlefield, as the nearest action is three hundred miles to the north. To the rest of the world, it's a small uninhabited New Rugian island group. There is no strategic value to South Auck, so there is no reason to attack it. Therefore, your "seizure" is hella metagaming.
    • If you're going to attack New Rugia though, don't you think all the islands of the nation would be surrounded/attacked? Also at three hundred miles away and seemingly undefended and unimportant, the island would be the perfect objective for the invaders, so that they could launch the assault on the mainland.
    • No, it wouldn't. The terrain is too rough to support any kind of airfield (at least one that can get operational quickly). The natural harbor is also too small, and the coastline is too rugged to support a fleet base. Meanwhile, Chatham island is closer to the approach direction for any invader, several hundred miles to the northwest. It's also much flatter, allowing for easier construction of airfields, and is home to several large bays lined with cliffs and dunes, much better suited to stationing ships there. Basically, every sane strategist would choose Chatham over Auckland. The only reason you're choosing auckland is because you know OOC that it's where Germany's nuclear research took place, which using that information to plot in-game strategies is meta.
    • The Brazilian strategy is specifically to seize all German possessions whatsoever. I can occupy Chatham too. I can use both islands to help surround New Rugia. Also my strategists can do whatever they want, there's no shortage of war to be had, so it's not like they have to choose only one island over the other. Also it can't be that rugged considering you apparently have a military facility there and the capabilities to ship nuclear technology there safely.
    • There's a facility there because Germany took the time to build the facility into the terrain, something that can't be done overnight. To everyone else, it's a rugged, uninhabited, unimportant, worthless piece of rock with no worth.
    • Also, it's not random of them to target that island considering Brazil claimed the island, and considers these attacks a liberation effort in some aspects.
  • Korea: Korea continues to build up its military. Meanwhile, more Taoist and Buddhist temples are built. Taoism rises in popularity and gains more followers.
  • France: Continues to fight the Germans, sending ever more troops to the front. One whole division has even reached the Rhine, and more are following. The high command advocates that French forces strike ever more deeper into Germany. However, with several prisoners having been taken, a secret order is given to dispose of them. We deploy our first aircraft carrier.
We continue to send more troops and military vehicles into southern Germany. Our navy still holds Venice's ports.
  • Poland: We exploit the vast forests in the western area of the country for lumber, with furniture production being the main priority. Lumber mills begin to sprout up throughout rural areas, with some located near major cities. Our medical staff receives funding to begin research on new vaccinations against diseases such as mumps, along with new variations of penicillin that treat rogue infections such as Staphylococcus.
  • Republic of China: The Conservative government declares neutrality in the ongoing current "World War". Despite this, we do give economic aid to India, allowing them to field a larger military. The Conservatives are forced to cut public spending to allow for this economic aid. Fearing we may be dragged into war, we engage in a military buildup, raising our active forces to the limit imposed by the Treaty of Sanya of 100,000 men. Pro-war, nationalist and imperialist revolts begin which are put down by the Chinese military.
  • Andea: Andea's economy finally shows signs of recovering as the new government comes in and begins to implement new systems such as Price Administration. The debate about the constitutionality of this is limited, as the focus remains on economic growth. The new policies focus on "Trickle Up" or Demand Side economics. New submachine guns and assault rifles are added to the Andean military. The navy remains large with several aircraft carriers. Further developments into this type of naval vessel continue, with more being added to the military. Population stands at 125 million. We adopt The Brazilian Rocket Program/desgin and begin producing them to use for the war in Europe. the war in Europe continues on, with conscription now becoming a law in Wartime Andea. The number of men the military is epected to have by the end of the year is six million, not including the intially military force of one million. The war prompts advancements in the Areospace and Science divisons of the governemnt, with developments in Radar and Sonar aiding Andea's war effort. In secret, Andea proposes a joint nuclear weapons program with Brazil. Andea sends a military force of 75,000 men to aid the Brazilians in New Rugia, and 25,000 men to aid Lombardy in Venice.. In order to end German arrogance and cease their backwater politics, Andea declares war on Germany and calls on the following nations to support her:
    • Mexaca
    • Reme
  • If Mexaca declares war, then Andea will invade Belize with her allies. If not, then full support will be sent to France.
    • Brazilian Diplomacy: Brazil accepts the offer of a joint nuclear program, and shares Brazil's years of nuclear weapons and rockets research, as well as the research seized by Germany in New Rugia.
    • Union of Sudafrica: Continues to make leaps and bounds. The nation is officially made into a commonwealth of Andea, and is making strives toward independence. The nation declares war on Germany, moblizing 500,000 men to aid the motherland
  • Nederlanden: The army meets with French forces, and push towrds the rhine, arriving at July 2nd. A bloody battle is fought at the river, and a stalemate ensues, at least for now.
The Spanish government team working on developing an atomic weapon makes great progress. The estimate for the construction of an operating bomb is in late 1950/early 1951. Spain contacts Borealia with information regarding this weapon. The Spanish project is officially known as the Mother Mary Mission. Spain also catches wind of a related Andean program. Other Spanish scientists work on jet powered aircraft. Spain continues to develop rocket technology and Spanish engineers create a rocket. Spain becames geared toward the war effort. Resources begin to be rationed so that things can be diverted into methods that will help in the war. The government also begins to sell victory bonds. #NoMoreWikiaChanges
          • Algeria continues to manage its internal affairs. The deserts of Algeria begin to be used by the Spanish government as a testing ground for new technologies. Algeria wins great victories in the West African front, and with the German surrender, Algeria and Morocco officially begin an occupation period in the region with a temporary military government taking power.
Malaya officially declares war on Aceh on the same day as a surprise attack on Aceh. Malaya makes quick gains with the aid of troops from the East Indies.
          • The Moroccan Principality expands its military, adopting Spanish styles and technology. Morocco's economy expands due to increased commercial affairs with Spain and other associated territories. Morocco shares in Algeria's great victory and the military occupation in the German colonies begins.
  • Commonwealth Duchy of Oldenburg: The entire economy is now geared toward the war effort. The OMW auto factory begins churning out tanks and armoured cars. The fleet of flying aircraft carriers is put to good use on the battlefields of the Western front, as well as on bombing runs of Paris and other major French and Dutch cities. The Prince-Bishop of Osnabruck organises the Misericordia Group; an organisation of priests, sisters, and lay medical staff which tends to the sick, wounded and displaced on both sides of the conflict. Duke Wilhelm III makes a speech to his subjects over the radio: "My people, today we stand together with our brothers and sisters around Germany in what must be our nation's darkest hour. At times, it may seem like all hope is lost. But we cannot give up hope. No, I say to you, my people, I will never surrender. We will fight back. We will fight on the borders, we will fight in the towns and villages, we will fight in the city. We will fight on the battlefields, on the high seas, and in the air. For five centuries my predecessors have passed on the light of the Oldenburger nation, and I shall never let it die, nay, not even after I draw my final breath. So do not give up hope, my people. Keep that flame alive." The monarchy's popularity increases greatly, due both to the Dukes speeches and his decision to remain in Oldenburg city, even as the bombs fall like rain.
    • Critics and historians in Germany point out that the Duke's speech is just a lazy parody of the one given by the Archbishop of Trier during the Franco-Austrian War.
    • Really? Evidently someone beat me to the lazy parody of Churchill.
    • The Duke brushes off the criticism of his speech, arguing that the reference was intentional.
  • Commomwealth Lordship of Neu Norderney: Algonquia is thanked for its wise and civilised decision to keep its word and respect Neu Norderney's borders. A majority of the military remains in Neu Norderney to ward off a potential Brazilian or Andean invasion, whilst the navy takes part in convoying supplies to Continental Germany. The economy is also entirely geared toward the war effort
  • Roman Empire: The Roman Empire continues to recover from the shock of the Great War, in which many good Romans died. The Empire also focuses on its internal security and stability after noticing the power of the revolt in Africa and remembering painful memories of revolts in Italy and Egypt. Research in new areas of science continues. Nuclear physics are explored in universities in the Empire, however, no major breakthroughs or accomplishments have been recorded and governmental support is low.
  • Greater Republic of Kashubia: As a military coup hits Kashubia by conservative extremists noting the failure of the old People's Republic of Poland to defeat the Croatians during World War I, most of the government of Kashubia is killed during the ensuing conflict in the capital of Sopot, but the few that remain flee to Prussia, Germany. This effectively becomes the Coup of '49 as future generations will know. After the coup, the nation becomes the Greater Republic of Kashubia, although a Republic only in name, in reality being an authoritarian dictatorship. As the new nation is born, propaganda spouting Kashubian Nationalism, and anti-Croatian propaganda is spread across the nation and major purges are conducted against both political dissidents and ethnic Croatians alike, with the government blaming Coatia and the Slavic League for its problems. It effectively withdraws from the League, seeking to unite the rest of Croatia, and seeks allies with other nations such as France, and Spain, and crush Croatia over time. As a result, we begin a large military buildup and through that, economic expansion through the military-industrial complex and through the timber industry.
  • Ruthenia: The Ruthenians continue to expand airship service and infrastructure throughout Europe and Asia.
Until German surrender, a near constant barrage of bombing begins. Chemical weapons are also used heavily along the French border to massive effectiveness, making it nearly impossible for the Germans to heavily advance on the western front. Development of a nuclear weapon continues, and is aided by the capture of Germany’s research in New Rugia. Construction and development of naval forces is heavily increased. More to be added. 600,000 German citizens are killed with conventional weapons during bombing runs against major cities. Infrastructure and industry is specifically targeting, severely crippling Germany’s ability to rebuild weapons of war. Heavy patrolling of the Atlantic continues, led by Allied submarines and anti-submarine destroyers. An estimated 783 submarines are sunk, and 30,000 enemy sailors are killed. The naval campaign also targets German shipping, leading to the destruction of a large portion of the enemy merchant fleet. These patrols extend along the entire Brazilian coast, and along the Pacific, so that all of Borealia and Hesperia is monitored. With cooperation of our allies in the war, Germany in Europe is completely surrounded. Gibraltar is heavy fortified, as is the rest of North Africa, now that our forces have been transferred to the area. The last major port in the south under German control, Venice, is now completely surrounded. In order to guard against German use of the Suez Canal as well, Brazilian forces are transferred to Tanzania, particularly the port of Cândidovila along the coast. Brazilian naval forces patrol the coast of East Africa to prevent German movement in the region. In the east Brunei is completely captured, and Brazilian and Spanish forces begin to surround New Rugia completely. A strict blockade is issued with all ships being fired upon. All islands of New Rugia are also occupied, and used in some cases for bombing against the mainland. Brazilian forces begin a heavy bombardment of New Rugia, with F-2 rockets claiming some 400,000 casualties within the first year. Additionally bombers and chemical warfare take their toll on the population. Approximately 3,500,000 soldiers are now in battle on New Rugia, or stationed throughout the Pacific. 5,000,000 soldiers are moved to North Africa, and launch an invasion of Germany through Lombardy. Nuclear research continues, and now doubles in speed thanks to the recent partnership with the nation of Andea. With Germany’s nuclear technology in New Rugia seized, the first functioning bomb is completed and tested in the Pacific Ocean. Mass production of the devices begin, and plans are made for them to be carried by carrier to New Rugia, and also to North Africa.
    • 400,000 casualties? Hah! Even with a three casualties to one rocket ratio the V-2 managed (3000 rockets: 9000 casualties) that requires a minimum of 130,000 rockets. That is ridiculous. Also, stop saying you captured my nuclear research until we have the New Rugian front figured out. Besides, any research (or evidence of research, at that) would've been destroyed before being captured.
    • The London Blitz had 228,000 casualties in eight months, and that was with hardly any V-2 rockets, less bombings, and no chemical weapons. In one year there would be more casualties, and Brazil has a ton of V-2s since they are more than a decade old at this point. Plus New Rugia is no where near as fortified as southern England. And chemical weapons.
  • Lithuania: The government begins rapidly expanding military industries. WIth experience from the Russian Civil War the nation of Lithuania is now one of the most militaristic states, with all citizens taking part in defense. Forced conscription leads to the raising of millions of soldiers and reserve forces. We also begin rebuilding the industry in the nation left behind from the communist days, investing in modern tanks and planes. We renew our alliance with Russia and Poland, and join Poland against East Prussia. All nations in the Slavic League are also called to aid us.
  • Silesia: We accept an alliance from the nations of Poland and Lithuania. They are welcomed into the Slavic League to further protect Eastern Europe. We also accept the offer from our allies and declare war on Germany, fully mobilizing for war. Other members of the Slavic League are asked to participate.
