The 1911 Indianapolis 500 was the first ever Indianapolis 500 held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It was held on Tuesday, 30th May with Ralph Mulford becoming the first Indy 500 champion as he passed Ray Harroun on the 189th lap to win the Indy 500.

For the first Indy 500, a qualification system was used that implemented the driver to keep at a consecutive speed over the quarter mile.
