In OTL, 11 July 1859, the Armistice of Villafranca was signed and ratified by the Treaty of Zürich...

What if the Austrians won the Second Italian War of Independence instead of France?

Chronology[]

  1. Austria won the war, not France/Sardinia. Therefore, there was no armistice. (Main Difference)
  2. Modena, Parma, Romagna, Tuscany and Central Italy were not annexed by the Kingdom of Sardinia, preventing it from creating a Central Italian League, thus resulting in a shattered Italy.
  3. Nice and Savoy did not pass under French control.
