1830

The Caliph in Cairo proclaims the so-called "Mahdi" to be a pretender and a liar. He is then killed by the Mahdi's followers. His elected successor decides to flee Cairo for the safety of Arabia, as Cairo is filled with the Mahdi's supporters.

Things continue to unravel in France as the massacre in Paris enrages the already disturbed people. Many begin to call for the king to be stripped of all power or perhaps even removed altogether.

Napoleon decides he has sufficiently trained the Zulu to be a modern European-style army. After going on a big game hunt, he decides to go on a well deserved vacation to Brésil.

  • Kingdom of France: After hearing about the recent events in France, Viceroy Pierre comes back to France after appointing Jocelyn Bonhomme to replace him as Colonial Viceroy of French Bahamas. However, by the time he arrives, he learns that a plot to overthrow the king has been somewhat started among the lower populace. King Louis expresses his doubts about being able to maintain popular opinion among the population to Pierre, and Pierre suggests that Louis should reclaim some of France's older possessions by declaring war. King Louis takes the advice, sees the Papal States as the weakest neighboring nation, and properly declares war on the belief that a decisive French victory in Central Europe against the papacy would allow for a more respected nation and a return of nationalism. King Louis sends 50,000 troops across the border at the dead of night, into the Papal States. Expecting to reach as far as western Piedmont by the end of the year, two French top-of-the-line ships are sent to start a naval attack on Belkan Malta, while eight are sent to assist in the seizing and occupation of Genoa and northwestern Italy. Food shortages begin in Occitania due to the king wanting a larger military budget.
    • The people are outraged that the king would attack the pope and the rebellious fervor only gets stronger. Large parts of the army reject the command. A group of generals considers ousting the king in a coup. -s
      • Did I ask for a mod response? No. - Sol
      • Deal with it. -s
  • Argentine: Hearing of the blasphemous invasion of the Papal States by the French, who are also a Catholic nation, and the king himself is crowned by the pope upon his coronation, we heavily condemn the outrageous invasion of the papacy by the evil French king, Louis I, and openly supports the pope and offers him refuge in Argentine in case the French somehow successfully invade the papacy. Our High Command and the Prime Minister himself with some of his personal advisors vigorously debate about if they should send 2000 in volunteers to the pope or just stay out of it. Political tensions are still on the wise, but again, as the invasion of the Papal States has outraged the populace of Argentine, the actual debate and National Elections are postponed, and many proletarians and Theo-Conservatives join together in a massive protest against the French invasion of the Papal States. The Prime Minister understand that all this won't exactly make the French stop, as they aren't an influential power in Europe, but it still angers him to see the pope be invaded by a king who at this point is just barely holding onto power. The Bishop of New Vichy obviously is against the French invasion of the Papal States, and makes a public speech in front of the Papal embassy in New Vichy, calling the invasion "Blasphemous", and saying things like "Sir Louis is a traitor to Europe and a traitor to his faith, and his countrymen, and should be punished by the hands of God!". High military officials secretly meet with the Bishop of New Vichy, and make some agreements, and shake hands afterward, and leave on a good note. A delegation arrives in St Denis, Brésil to discuss possible trade agreements with the Brésilians. Conservative Argentinian newspapers suggest that Sir Napoleon I of the former German Empire, should be crowned king of the French, as he was French in origin.
    • French Diplomacy: King Louis spits and urinates on an Argentine flag. The flag is then burned and sent to the Prime Minister as a Christmas gift.
    • Argentine Response: The flag is already in ashes by the time it gets there, and the Prime Minister is very confused why they sent ashes. He assumes it's the ashes of King Louis I and that the people have overthrown him and burned him.
    • This is not King Louis I. King Louis I of France reigned in the 8th and 9th centuries. -s
      • Well, sorry, I didn't know what number he was so I just put I.
    • Everyone in the world informs these conservative Argentinian newspapers that Napoleon was not, in fact, French in origin. These newspapers begin to go out of business for being factually inaccurate. Also, he was not a sir.
      • Corsican, right?
      • No, he is German in the map game. Please do research.
    • Brésil: The Argentine delegation is received favorably and Brésil is willing to negotiate a trade agreement on the grounds of low tariffs.
  • United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland: Birthrates grow dramatically. Industrialization is now hard at work. The population grows as does the technology with more railways and factories. Parliament helps fund the growth of industry by lowering taxes as much as it can on business. England has 12.4 million people and inside of that London has a population of 1.4 million, Wales has 0.8 million, Ireland has 6.3 million people and Scotland 1.8 million. In Britain, based in southern England, the army rests at 10,000 professionals with 5000 men in Ireland. There are two fleets one at Portsmouth and one at Bristol, each comprise ten first-rate ships-of-the-line, 24 second-rate ships-of-the-line and 50 frigates. The number of railways being built increases with connections between the coal mines and industry towns on the north. We ask Arabia to help us restore the rightful Caliph to Cairo (Mod response). Provided they agree we will dispatch the 10,000 British soldiers at Aden to land in the Sinai peninsula, then advance and take Cairo. The 30,000 soldiers of the Indian army to move into the Nile Delta while the Arabian army should take Damietta.
    • India: The New Indian Army continues to grow while more British people trained in civil service academies are sent to India. The 30,000 troops from the Indian army are sent to Arabia.
    • Kingdom of Avalon, Iroquois, Tejas and Savannah: The Kingdom of Iroquois expands 50 px west from Henry's Land into OTL Kentucky and Ohio. The Kingdom of Avalon 50 px expands along the northern side of the Great Lakes. Migration of those struggling due to industrialization continues. There is an exploding amount of population with immigration, high birthrates and vast amounts of undiscovered land. The population of Avalon is 1.4 million, Iroquois has 3.6 million and Savannah 3.7 million. The Kingdom of Tejas is formed from land gained by the British in the war against Aztlan and garrisoned and administered by British troops while work is made on setting up a parliament and defenses. Work begins on the capital.
    • The Mahdi scoffs and Britain’s meddling in Islamic affairs, and remarks, “what do they know about Islam, these kafirs?” A jihad is declared against all British forces. The Mahdi also calls for the cruel torture of any Hindus captured, dismemberment. BTW, I call bullshit on the Indian Army already reaching Arabia, mod response has not been approved yet.
    • Arabia agrees to this. -s
  • Mahdist State/ revolt: the Mahdi urges the people of Cairo to rise against the king of Egypt. The Mahdi places his son as governor of Sudan and Abyssinia, or “emir”. The Mahdi plans to govern from Cairo as the new leader of Islam against the infidels. Khalid inn al Walid Awan, a southern tribesman from an animist tribe converted to Islam, attacks royal loyalists, declaring the current Caliph and king of Egypt as hedonists. The Abyssinian king is called a Kuffar, and the Mahdi's son, Yazid al Din, emir of Sudan and Abyssinia, continues his invasion. The Mahdi also sends parties to search for the Great Lakes state of Buha so the king can be killed and Islam rule his state. The Mahdi plans from Eritrea/northern Somalia and incursion into Yemen. The imam claims baroque to be un-Islamic and full of vanity and hedonism, stating it is a tool by the liberal rich to act superior to the conservative masses. He issues a fatwa against the king and caliph. The king is declared a fake Muslim and apostate for taking British aid. British people are mocked as tea fucking kafirs who have a sexual appetite for tea and colonial slaves in the slave trade. It becomes well known, the British coming intervention, so the Mahdi goes to an unknown poor village, to direct the war from there, ready to flee to Central Africa if necessary. His son will take the position of leadership should he die. all Sudanese cities are defended by garrisons, while Cairo is planned to be burned should a capture occur, as a scorched earth campaign. The Rashidun City is demolished already. An Arab Egyptian agent, Mohammed al Wahhab is sent to Arabia and Persia to spread the philosophy of Mahdi there and cause enough trouble to prevent their intervention on behalf of the Brits. As another insult to the British, this one more aimed at their colonial greed, a Sudanese peasant, Jalal al Nassar, is Jokingly appointed viceroy of England. Also in Cairo, the royal treasury gold is melted, along with wealthy British gold, and poured on corrupt royal family members and any British caught. Genitalia is also fired at with fiery Sudanese tribal arrows at British Egyptians. Also, Copts are rounded up and shot, in a genocide, justified by the Ethiopian rule over Misr and the Coptic collaboration. This is done in conjunction with Yazid’s invasion of Abyssinia. Southern Muslims in Abyssinia are respected as comrades. The defected section of the Egyptian army and surviving guard for the caliph are turned into a force known as Feyadeen al Mahdi. “the Mahdi Martyrs.“ they serve as an elite force. They proceed to invade Morocco to increase the fronts of the war. The Mahdi believes over extension is not a problem due to the fact that this is a guerrilla, rogue state, and will soon turn into a guerrilla movement. The Nile Canals are broken to cause floods to slow any British advance. A Mahdist makeshift blockade on the Nile happens to slow any British advance. Mahdi, having heard of the French failure of Congo, hopes Egypt/Sudan could be the British version.
    • FAKE EGYPT
  • Swahili: We continue colonial expansion in Northern Somalia, in the South and in the Malindi and Mombasa area. Colonization steadily increases as medicine and weaponry become more widespread. Some slave owners free their slaves in the North, as the cost of overseeing them becomes infeasible in some areas most impacted by the population lost from the civil war and urbanization. They are given few more rights, becoming something between serfs and sharecroppers. With British expansion in India, the British ban on cotton textiles has impacted Indian cotton growers ever more, as well as competition from far cheaper British textiles from industrialization. Swahili merchants has captured this opportunity and begun the exporting of textiles to India, leading to a class of rich merchants and cotton plantation owners. The navy fights off more Iberian fleets and tries to pressure Iberia into accepting a peace with the current borders (including occupation). The past decades were a period of growth in the Swahili scientific and technological fields followed by peace at the end of the civil war and a need for recovery.
    • Sefuwa: The colony of Sefuwa continues development. A grand military port has been constructed.
    • Huriya: Political integration continues with Swahili bureaucrats being sent to oversee more political processes.
    • Rowzi: Political integration continues with Swahili bureaucrats being sent to oversee more political processes.
    • Mahdist Diplomacy: the Mahdi urges the sultan to invade Ethiopia to liberate their Oromo brothers in the hellish Coptic state.
    • FAKE EGYPT.
  • Brésil: Outrage over the invasion of the papacy is heard throughout Brésil as the country is majority Catholic, and it remains the country's national religion. Emperor Alexandre cuts off all diplomatic ties with France. Napoleon is welcomed by the Imperial court, and he is granted extensive liberties in terms of his stay, including housing in St Denis. The presence of their former emperor is a moment of great joy for many Germano-Brésilians. The daughter of a well-to-do family of such origins somehow finds her way to the household of the former emperor, only to have a child of his nine months later who is named Henri Bonaparte. Military expansion and modernization continues with the army being raised to 50,000 due to the growing tensions with Argentine and with the need to further the expansion of the Frontalier settlements into the Interior which continues with great vigor in the Chaku region. Expansion of industry continues as well as cotton and cattle production thanks to the increase in labor and land available. Sugar and coffee production expands as well greatly especially around St Denis. Efforts to covet engineers and teachers from Europe greatly increases to help modernize and develop the growing nation of Brésil. The Unversite National de Comte becomes one of the largest institutions in Brésil for higher education alongside the Institute Imperial. The heir and his wife have a child - a son named Henri - preserving the imperial line another generation. The government in St Denis continues to offer well paid jobs to engineers, doctors and other professionals from Europe to come teach in Brésil's growing institutions of higher learning (can some nation please respond to this request? The Belka envoy's offer is accepted with all terms that were discussed. The settlement of the Brésilian interior continues with great vigor as more Frontalier settlements pop up. The government efforts to create mixed communities of native Brésilians (born in Brésil) and immigrants proves highly effective at integrating the new arrivals who quickly become aware of the need to inhabit the newly settled regions with their neighbors who aren't always of the same ethnicity. This mixed with the military contract helps cement French as the lingua franca across all settlements as well as instilling the concept of civil duty. Vast tracks of the Gross Buisson region and the Chaku region are now fully mapped out and planned settlements are arranged for these regions. The settled regions push farther inland by 100 px to the northwest. Military engagements with the natives in the interior become a common occurrence as the Frontalier settlers and the military protect against raids carried out by disgruntled and displaced natives. Large amounts of outposts are established along the growing road network and along major river connections in Paraguay and Chaku to ensure the safety of supplies and goods going back and forth. Expansion in the Amazon region proves a lot more peaceful as the frontier there pushes 100 px as well to the south from the Amazon River by Frontalier settlers who encounter smaller groups of much less organized natives. Due to process of industrialization that is occurring in major cities along the coastline the demand for raw material and food for the urban regions steadily grows. While the growing ranching and agricultural sector is able to meet the food demands of the cities and the growth of cotton production helps the growing textile industry many other materials such as coal are purchased from abroad. With talks opening up with Belka about future economic cooperation the government in St Denis inquires into the possibility of purchasing weaving machines from Belka as well as steamers to improve transportation of goods from the interior to the coast, as well as hiring Belkan engineers and professionals to teach in the institutions of higher education in Brésil. Female movement to the interior continues to grow and the settlements farther inland continue to grow and flourish specially with the increased flow of traffic of goods to the interior thanks to the purchase of new steamers from Europe and free access to the river Argente and Amazon. In a national census carried out the population is determined to be at 9.5 million people a steady increase from the previous census. Political participation specially amongst the growing middle and upper class grows greatly.
  • Hawaii: The nation continues expanding across the Pacific, trading and settling our various conquered or colonized possessions, especially Tonga, and other islands in the far southwest. Expansion of infrastructure within the Hawaiian Islands proper continue with many cities, such as Honolulu, having been transformed into European-style urban centers. The growth of domestic agriculture continues, as the recent redistribution of lands has led to the creation of hundreds of moderately sized, primarily Hawaiian-owned, plantations and farms across the kingdom. The nation's government considers issuing a statement condemning the French invasion of the Papal States, as the nation is quite Catholic. However, the king vetoes this idea, as he wants to retain good relations with France, one of the nation's most trusted friends, and also because Hawaii has no stake in a European conflict. Having been educated in French all his life, the king also privately does not understand the uproar against the French, but regardless he keeps that to himself. The 1828 Pan-Polynesian Games prove to be the largest so far, with participants for the first time from Laurentian/Arcadian nations. Kaluahine FC emerges as the winner in the football tournament, and goes on to have a good season in 1829 and 1830. Later in the year the king and his entourage elect to travel once more to Brésil and happen to be in the country during Napoleon Bonaparte's visit. The king meets the infamous man and is fascinated with his story. The king's visit also corresponds with another planned exhibition match in St Denis, and the king attends the game, hoping that his presence will further interest Brésilians in the game of football. Later in the year two more matches are planned in Uluru. However, the king does not attend these personally, having returned to Honolulu. The king offers to mediate in the Russo-Salish conflict, as a neutral party.
  • In China, population growth continues to stagnate due to anti-natalist policies (encouraging withdrawal or periodic abstinence as well as devices such as glans condoms as contraception, as well as abortifacient herbs prescribed to women with unwanted pregnancies). International trade with Chinese tributary states and selected partner states are encouraged. The dissemination of Confucian classics and the Sixteen Maxims continue in order to cement Confucian orthodoxy, aided by a rise in literacy and education. The implementation of irrigation and capital-intensive methods of cultivation allows for an incline in agricultural productivity. The rise in the food supply, due to the cultivation of root crops in areas where the cultivation of traditional grains - due to the nature of the soil or other factors - is unsuitable. The mining industry - centered on the extraction of anthracite, gold, copper, and iron - experiences a boom. Industrial facilities continue to churn out massive volumes of wrought iron from pig iron, as well as gunpowder and other processed commodities; most of which are utilised in the production of various armaments, firearms, and artillery in accordance to the militarist policy. Immense commercialization continues, aided by heavy infrastructural development and a strong internal demand for consumer goods and luxury items. Basic sanitation and hygiene is taught, and public bathhouses, spas, latrines and sewage systems are all built.
    • Nivkh Kingdom (protectorate): The king continues to adopt Korean and Chinese architecture, paving roads to facilitate transport, and replacing wood and thatch roofing with stone bricks and clay tiles, respectively.
    • Sakha (protectorate): The Khan continues to adopt Korean and Chinese architecture, paving roads to facilitate transport, and replacing wood and thatch roofing with stone bricks and clay tiles, respectively. Siberian crab-apples become a local renowned fruit, and is particularly prized in Korea and northern China.
    • Xizang (protectorate): Lhasa, the capital, is expanded and modernized. The Tibetan clergy continues to administer the protectorate, with its leader, the Dalai Lama, being considered a vassal or substitute monarch. Many Tibetans are encouraged (via financial incentives) to become more sedentary, with food instead being supplied from nearby Sichuan (thereby reducing over reliance in inefficient herding).
    • North Mongolia (protectorate): Yurt is further settled. A healthy aquaculture industry is established, harvesting and raising fish from Lake Baikal.
    • Zaihaibian Colonies: Company rule (under the Chinese East Indies Company) continues. Fire-fallow cultivation is encouraged, leading to rapid deforestation of the forest, with local tribes being forcibly assimilated or expelled.

1831

Things continue to worsen in France.

The coming of the British in Egyptian Sudan brings an end to the Mahdi's rebellion. Order is restored under the Muhammad Ali regime.

The Chinese East Indies Company goes bankrupt because of a series of bad investments.

  • Kingdom of France | French State: Following the invasion of the Papal States, the Tuileries Palace in Paris is stormed by citizens, killing over 500 of the king's royal guard's and eventually capturing the king. After the king is imprisoned, thirteen former members of the National Assembly would assemble and establish the French Directory, a committee designed to establish a new French constitution and "bring democracy to France". The committee consisted of six loyalists, six democrats, and one "swing" individual who would decide on what's best for the French people. With the economy facing large strain and money having almost no value, Parisians begin to riot, loot and kill in the streets of Paris, proclaiming "DEATH TO THE KING!". Although many people accepted the new directorial government, after a three-to-two vote insisted on keeping the king alive, many citizens seen this result as harmful to their newfound democracy and republicanism. As a means of gaining the director's attentions, Henry Soyer - a radical republican and lawyer - would gather a large mob of people, and storm Paris's prison. With the intent to rape, stab and kill, Henry Soyer's mob would kill over 2000 people before reaching the cell of the King. Henry would go on to re-arrest the King, and after storming the Prison armory, announced that the execution of the king would take place later in the following week. On April 6th, King Louis would be executed by guillotine in front of all of France. The execution would bring about another wave of violence much more powerful than the last, with Henry Soyer declaring a law-free republic upon the piking of the king's head. With the guillotine working better than originally thought, Henry Soyer declares the French Directory to be against God's Will, pointing out their lack of calling for white peace with the papacy. All thirteen members proceed to be executed by guillotine, and soon, hundreds of people Henry claim to be against the French people are executed. By August 3rd, over 2000 people have been executed by Henry and his supporters. With all of the National Assembly having been executed, Henry proclaims himself Supreme Chancellor of France and officially calls for white peace with the papacy and Belka, with troops and battleships properly moving out of their respective areas. A new legislation, titled the Committee for the People of France, is proclaimed and is filled with hard line nationalists and radical republicans pre-selected by Henry himself. Due to the large loyalist opposition faced following all of these new policies, Henry declares "Terror" against the loyalists, and subsequently plans to forcibly purge all existing opposition toward his proclamation. Although putting more strain on the economy, Supreme Chancellor Henry decreases the price of food as a means of centralizing the ever decreasing centralization in Occitania. However, due to lack of a proper police force, looting and mass pillaging take place all across the French cities and countryside alike. All foreign territories continue to operate normally.
  • Papal States: After the short but painful war with France, Pope Michael II and indeed the entire nation is greatly gladdened by the revolution in France. In an encyclical letter, the pope notes that given that the French king had clearly gone against divine law by invading a neighbor unprovoked (and the papacy at that), deposing the tyrant is morally justifiable. This consolidates the notion that tyranicide is acceptable according to Catholic doctrine. Work begins on rebuilding, and Pope Michael grows tired from the many conflicts he has had to deal with. Missions continue.
  • Argentine: elections are held, with the conservatives and proletarianists are at a stand still ... until the military does an unexpected coup, and storms the presidential palace, and arrests the prime minister, and executes the proletarian leaders, and installs the Bishop of New Vichy, as Patriarch of Argentine. The military justifies their actions with saying "we needed to protect our country from the evil proletarianists, that want to destroy our culture and religion". The Patriarch of Argentine requests that the pope recognize him as the leader of Argentine (papal response needed).
  • United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland: The fact that things are going badly in France shows how important democracy is and there is talk of further reform to stop any silliness in France occurring in Britain. If the King of France's family are still alive they should come to Britain to be safe (Mod response) Birthrates grow dramatically. The number of railways being built increases with connections between the coal mines and industry towns on the north. With the liberation/conquest of Egypt we offer to Muhammad Ali to establish a secular British grammar school in Cairo (Mod response) which would charge a reasonable entry fee for anyone who wishes to enroll. It would be taught in English and teach a British style and standard curriculum. Other than that, British forces leave Egypt now that we sorted things out. Troops return home to where they belong. Charles Darwin starts his voyage on HMS Beagle from Plymouth. The John Bull is constructed by Robert Stephenson and Company in England. Members of a Manchester (England) Sunday School are conveyed by a special train on the Liverpool and Manchester Railway to Liverpool, the first recorded private railway excursion. The industrial economy continues to increase especially British control over textiles. Michael Faraday demonstrates electromagnetic induction at the Royal Society. Joseph Henry invents the electric bell.
    • India: The New Indian Army continues to grow and a new training academy is established for the entire army regardless of whether they originate from Britain or India. They take the same courses and start at the same rank even if a British-born officer is more likely to advance quicker. Some of the experienced Sepoy are put into officer training if they are Muslim. With Hindu it is done based upon caste. While more British people trained in civil service academies are sent to India. The provinces of India all remain separate but the cross-regional Indian Ministry of Education is established and sets up charity schools in many of the larger cities in India to teach urban dwellers the English language and other important things for free though boarding places cost.
The Kingdom of Iroquois establishes settlements in the Iroquois confederacy lands taking their lands in case that isn't clear to the Iroquois.
    • Muhammad Ali agrees to this. -s
    • French Diplomacy: All of the Royal Family is dead.
  • Kingdom of Burgundy: Patagonië expands by 50 px. Burgundy's presence in Neiuw Zeeland is increased. In light of the chaos in France, King Lodewijk orders the army mobilized to prevent violence from spilling over into Burgundy. Meanwhile, as part of Burgundy's naval modernization program, the HMS Kinnik Henri, the first of the new class of 122-gun ships-of-the-line, is commissioned, with two sister ships being commissioned in the year. However, concerns begin to arise about the new ships-of-the-line being white elephants in light of recent testing with exploding shells, where the frigate Varklaring severely damaged a decommissioned 110-gun ship-of-the-line with a single broadside, and causing fires which led the ship to sink. Many in the Royal Navy, however, point out that the construction in the newer ships-of-the-line make them much sturdier than the ship tested on. Nevertheless, the experimental board begins theorizing on how to protect ships against shells. Meanwhile, the States-General approves the construction of the HMS Vuurbol (Fireball), a 44-gun frigate intended to incorporate a steam engine.
  • Swiss Confederation: With the additions of the cantons of Wallis and Freiburg, the Canton of Lucerne decides to officially call the Tagsatzung (the federal Diet). Their representative talks about modernizing the Swiss state but remaining decentralized and a worthy confederation. Many of the representatives agree on this notion. With over 8000 distinct coins being circulated through the confederation, it hampers business between cantons and across the state. Due to this it is proposed that a monetary concordate is signed. Called the "Konkordanzbatzen of Lucerne" it states that the responsibility to mint coins will be given to cantons (meaning some cities will no longer have rights to mint currency). The cantons issue standardized coins of certain specifications and composition. The coins can still have the coat of arms of the canton on the front but the reverse must contain the Swiss cross. Other than that, the cantons build up military defenses on the French border seeing the happenings there. Some forces within the confederation say there is a need to centralize but it only has fringe support and most still support the confederate system.

1832

Things continue to worsen in France.

Napoleon decides to leave Brésil and disappears at sea.

The bankruptcy of the Chinese East Indies Company disrupts the Chinese economy.

The Caliph returns to Cairo.

  • Holy State of Argentine: The Patriarch of Argentine, St Paul, signs into law new laws and policies that are very right wing, and fundamentalist and also religious reforms, along with declaring the previous democratic, and very liberal constitution and Argentine null and void, and prepares to co-write a new constitution that will help establish the new order in Argentine that supports the radical ideals of the conservatives, fundamentalists, and clergy. The Patriarch also brings back Medieval Feudalism, and outlaws elections and denounces freedom of speech, saying that the Lord our God, wants every man to obey their feudal lord, and that it is a sin to fight against the government. The Patriarch is very popular in Argentine, as many Argentines are devout Catholics, and are more nostalgic for the old days of feudalism. In the south/southwest of Argentine though, farmers and peasants are outraged, and many ex-proletarianists quickly fled and hid in rural areas in the south, and many of those proletarianists rose up against the new regime in the form of strikes and protests. The protests were quickly contained, and the military quickly put them down, but this still didn't snuff out the Anti-Establishment demeanor in the south ... The Patriarch of Argentine awaits the response of the pope, as he asked his holiness to recognize him as Patriarch of Argentine, and to recognize his new government (Papal Response Needed!!) We also send a delegation to the following nations: Burgundy, Brésil, France, and Great Britain, to recognize the new government in Argentine (Player's Response Needed!). Catholicism becomes the only legal religion in Argentine, by decree of the Patriarch.
    • British Dip: Yeah, sure.
    • French Dip: Sure.
  • French State | French Democratic Republic: With the purging against loyalists continuing and bringing about 12,000 strong within the first weeks of January, documents and various papers are found hinting that Henry Soyer had sympathized the rebellions by purposefully cutting the food lines to Occitania due to his unknown position as General Secretary of the Royal Family. With the truth having been revealed, Henry Soyer is properly labeled a loyalist sympathizer and due to his connection with many of the members of the Committee, all of the them are executed. With all of them being executed on February 14th, this loss of general leadership begins a period of miscommunication and false leaders. Various factions begin to fight against each other, all supporting different political ideologies. By June, republican Gilles Vallée begins to make headway as the declared leader of France. With promises of lowered taxes and democratic elections, much of the population begins to support his idea of true freedom and total abolition of the feudal system. Although unpleasing to many loyalists, many do agree that the French Revolution is needing to end, and after negotiating with large numbers of various factions, an election becomes reality in early August. Later that month, the election results end up with Gilles Vallée being named first President of the French Democratic Republic and therefore, the definitive leader of France. As negotiated pre-election, the new legislation is labeled the National Committee and consists of numerous political factions and parties. With this new form of unity, normalcy is generally returned by the end of the year. Taxes are imposed equally among the population, with all citizens equally paying an equal amount and exceptions not being made due to merit or royalty. Rebuilding efforts begin in Paris, and a new sense of pride and nationalism becomes apparent in France. The population declines to 23.4 million. President Gilles offers the United Kingdom a trade of the French Bahamas for their Indonesian territory of Banten and Lampung.
    • French Benin: French diplomats, under the ordering of President Gilles Vallée, introduce the Beninese people of Ere to Christianity. The capital city, Kalabari, becomes a major trading outpost and relay station for the French as a means of establishing French dominance over African trade in the region. Kuzirism is allowed in tolerance under the leadership of the newly appointed President of Benin, Roméo Beaumanoir. Taxes are imposed, as agriculture continues to be the main income of many Beninese citizens. After learning of the numerous Benin states across West Africa, he sends out delegates to Warri and Oyo, offering them the same conditions offered to the King of Ere [Mod Response Needed].
    • French Indonesia: Viceroy Charles Bonaparte becomes President Charles Bonaparte. The trading posts established on Papua New Guinea establish a line of trade between the natives of the island and the French. Stuff continues normally.
    • British Dip: No thanks.
  • Russia: Russia takes up Hawaii's offer to mediate the peace, the ambassador has one demand for Russia, territory negotiated by the Mehican Empire. At home ideologies of the enlightenment begin to take hold again, surprisingly by the Tsarevich, heir to the throne Vladimir, soon to become Vladimir IV. The first small batch of Kalashnikov rifles are delivered to troops in Arcadia. Colonial expansion in Alyeska and Resnov continues.
  • OOC Drake: The National War Effort Timer for the Salish is negative (-20). In any case it is less than 50. They have already lost the war in 1825/6.
  • OOC Falcon: How did your math work? No way I've lost this.
  • OOC Drake: OK, Falconis, you think the war went in a different way, you think you won. You will make a National War Effort Timer for Salish and Aztlan. You will tell me how many men you fielded and how did the war go according to you. Then we (or a mod) will make a proper algorithm for this war.
  • United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland: The fact that things are going badly in France shows how important democracy is and there is talk of further reform to stop any silliness from occurring in Britain and so the reform act is passed giving more seats to the cities. It also increases the number of those enfranchised to vote to one-fifth of adult men. Birthrates grow dramatically. The expansion of London leads to another outbreak of Cholera in the East End, hygiene is encouraged to stop any more spread of this disease. The population grows as does the technology with more railways and factories. The Festiniog Railway Company Incorporated by Act of Parliament to build a railway from Festiniog to Portmadoc in North Wales for the carriage of slate and other minerals. Explorers set out for Uluru to conduct further studies of their lands. A task force comprising of 1000 men with artillery and horse supported by two first-rate ships-of-the-line, four second-rate and seven frigates sets out heading to go around Cape Horn this year heading for Arcadia.
    • India: The New Indian Army continues to grow and a new training academy is established for the entire army regardless of whether they originate from Britain and India. They take the same courses and such and start at the same rank even if a British born officer is more likely to advance quicker. Some of the experienced Sepoy are put into officer training if they are Muslims. With Hindus it is done based upon caste. While more British people trained in civil service academies are sent to India. The growth of charity schools in India continues.
There is fighting between the Iroquois tribes and the Kingdom of Iroquois because of the years of expansion into their land.
  • Swiss Confederation: The Tagsatzung meets twice during the year in the cities of Chur and Bern. To continue to modernize the Swiss economy, the representatives decide to create the Swiss National Bank. Historically, money has poured in to the Swiss banking system due to the former mercenary corps, where the mercenaries would come back home and invest the money in Swiss banking. The National Bank will continue to encourage and help this vital industry grow, and it will be in charge of the specifications for the cantonal-minted currency. Swiss cities continue to harness most of the economic power. This is due to the fact that the Universities, Banks, and most things are located there. Third-generation machines are used in proto-factories in the cities (this happened OTL don't cross) while the workshop system is fading out of the cities although it is very prevalent still in the countryside. To modernize the Swiss state the Tagsatzung encourages cantons to increase taxes to improve state revenues but most of the cantons still do their own thing and are not interested. A census is taken, and there are 1,583,456 registered citizens.
  • Aztlan Republic: The Salish War ends with Aztlan gaining Southern California. Trade grows with the signing of a trade pact with France this year and the trade pact with Britain. The industry in Aztlan starts to expand. The immigrants find employment in the growing industries in Novo Galizia and Tejas which are the centers of cotton cultivation and coal mining in Aztlan. Coal mines and Iron ore mines open up with the establishment of steel producing units. Mechanization increases with a growth in the use of the steam engines and industrial looms for the production of textiles. Factories open up for the production of machine tools. Silver mines and gold mines continue to operate. The first lumber mills and paper mills are established in Aztlan. The number of arms and munitions factories expands in Baja California and Novo Galizia as the army has placed a massive order to replace all obsolete firearms with muzzle loading firearms. The shipbuilding industry expands with a growth in the availability of timber. With a steady flow of immigrants, the labor demands of the growing numbers of farms, plantations and ranches are fulfilled. The plantations grow labor intensive cash crops. The population has grown from 6.5 million (in 1825) to 7.2 million at present. This is the eighth year of the Presidency of Quauhtli Correira. The National Assembly passes laws reducing taxes on businesses and industries to encourage their growth. The Guadalajara Military Academy is established. A standing army of 25,000 men is maintained divided into the Aztlan Guards Regiment (15,000 men), Novo Galizia Hussars Regiment (5000 men) and Maiam Grenadiers Regiment (5000 men). The 1st Artillery Regiment (1000 men) and the Army Engineers Corp (1000 men) are raised and will complete training in five years time.
  • Papal States: Pope Michael recognises the Argentinian primate’s position and government. The French government is asked for a Concordat which would recognise the Church’s property rights and the rights to run schools. Missions continue.
    • Argentinian Diplomacy: St Paul, Bishop of New Vichy, and Patriarch of Argentine thanks to the pope and declares absolute allegiance to the church and the pope.

1833

Prince Napoleon secretly returns to the Rhineland.

Things continue to worsen in France.

  • Holy State of Argentine: A peasant Rebellion occurs in southern Argentine, in a small farming town known as "La Rouge", it actually succeeds due to its small, isolated location, and little presences of military there, and so, the small peasant rebellion erupts into an all out civil war, as Proletarianists and Peasant Farmers revolt and protest in many areas in the southeast and many towns and villages, and start a march toward New Vichy (which, just for clarification, is this timelines equivalent of Buenos Aires). This "March" is quickly intercepted by an Argentine Battalion which fired upon the Protestors, causing huge outrage and a domino effect. Soon peasant farmers and protestors seize and occupy the largest city in the southwest region of Argentine, known as "St Jon" (OTL San-Juan) and declare a new "Revolutionary State of Argentine" and adopt a red flag with pitchfork and sickle as their symbol. So goes the Argentinian Civil War. The Proletarian side is very popular within the south, as it is manly agricultural and many people face the same problems the proletarians talk about, and hope to see collectivization and rights toward peasants and abolition of feudal class society and stripping aristocrats and landlords of their land and give it to the people. In the north, where it's more modernized, not quite industrialized, but not an agricultural region, manly mining and some industry, mainly in the capital. The people in the north are not on the same terms as the proletarianists in the south, and are much more conservative, and devout Catholics, as opposed to the southerners grudge and suspicion toward religious establishments and religious faith in general, as many rebels in the south have attacked clergymen and churches in the south. The Patriarch declares a national state of emergency, and calls on the nations of the Americas and Europe to support his government, and requests a blessing from the pope (Player response absolutely needed!!!!) Meanwhile, the proletarians call on the French to support them and give them aid and volunteers, as they share many of the same revolutionary ideals and purposes, and were mostly inspired by the French revolution (French response needed!!). Governors that were appointed by the Bishop in southern Argentine are hunted down, captured, and hanged, with people shouting "Down with the tyrants! Equality for all!" And "Liberty, Or death!". A Revolutionary Army is formed, with weapons and artillery stolen from raids on military bases in the south, along with normal barrel guns. The Revolutionary Army of the South is 86,000 strong, about to grow to 100,000, though the Argentinian Army, the one that serves the Bishop, is 300,000 to 400,000 strong, but many men or deserting their groups and defecting toward the southern side, due to coming from the south or sympathizing with their cause, which is rapidly decreasing the men in the army, and increasing rapidly the Southern army. Proletarians and Peasants plus southerners follow the ideology of Proletarianism (think Marxism and Council Socialism).
    • French Diplomacy: Support is declared (specifics will be in turn).
  • Aztlan Republic: In January, the Republic declared war on the Pueblo Confederacy. A force of 20,000 men consisting of the Aztlan Guards Regiment and the Novo Galizia Hussars Regiment supported by artillery and military engineers. Another 15,000 troops are raised as a temporary wartime force. The war ends in early June with the Pueblo Confederacy being annexed (They had a negative national war effort timer). Shortly after the war, the Republic declares war on the Comanches in July. 20,000 men led by Cuahillo Barbossa invade Comacheria. Comancheria falls not able to withstand the modern Aztlan army (and having a negative war effort timer). The war ends in November and Comancheria is annexed. A strong military presence is established (10,000 men) and immigrants move to settle the newly conquered lands. The Comanche tribes are assimilated into the Nahuatl/Pueblo culture and those who refuse are expelled. Provisions are made for the Pueblos in the Constitution as a minority group. The National Assembly passes two major acts, the Frontiers Act and the Naval Act, formally instituting the new Aztlan Navy. Work begins on the construction of four first-rate ships-of-the-line and 16 frigates for the Atlantic fleet. Another two first-rates and 12 frigates are being constructed for the Pacific fleet. The Pacific fleet will be based in Acapulco and the Atlantic fleet will be based in Coatzacoalcos. The Aztlan Navy absorbed the Aztlan Naval Flotilla which consisted of 14 sloops-of-war and numerous auxiliaries, remnants of the Mehican Navy. Following the passage of the Frontiers Act in August, a number of immigrants and Nahuatl people move to settle the unclaimed lands on the northern frontier, expanding along the Salish borders. A short expedition explores the area north of erstwhile Comancheria along the border of the four kingdoms and establishes Aztlan claims from the present four kingdoms border to the Salish border. The Aztlan Republic will remain neutral in the Argentinian Civil War.
  • French Republic: Under President Gilles and the National Committee's agreement, France's government becomes a federal constitutional presidential republic. A total of nine federal states and three oversea regions are organized and established. Under the new constitution, an election will take place every five years starting in 1835, with current President Gilles operating as the President until newer elections take place. Similarly, legislative elections will take place within a two year period beginning in 1834. After negotiating the treaty between Russia, the Salish Nation, and is successful, colonial President Charles Bonaparte is given a larger budget to further colonization and French presence in the Pacific, but no colonization is expected until later. The new sense of pride and nationalism has prompted for an increase in the National Army and an increase in military signups as a means of boosting the nation's strength following an albeit short but terrible revolution. By the end of the year, the army rests at around 200,000 by the end of the year, and is set to be expanded to 550,000, organized in 28 divisions, including 23 Infantry and five cavalry. Industrialization, which had stopped during the revolution, begins to pick up as textile factories and coal mines begin re-producing goods and items once more. The French Navy is reformed and is set to begin producing battleships and military vessels, and is set to increase to three first-rate ships-of-the-line, ten second-rate ships-of-the-line, and 15 frigates by 1836. A French chemist named Anselme Payen discovers the first enzyme, diastase. Although wishing good relations with neighboring nations, President Gilles declines the offer for the Papal States to run schools, but supports the respecting of their property, in terms of land where churches and other holy Catholic settlements are settled. With much of the National Committee being under the influence globalist republican-democrats, it is decided that the French Republic will support the Proletarians in their conflict against the Patriarch's in Argentina, with envoys of modern weaponry being sent to assist them in their fight. Nationalism and nationwide pride begins inherit more, with many supporting a war meant to reclaim lost lands, specifically lost in the Seven Year's War. Revolutionary groups are placed inside Iberia and Burgundy to help in promoting the image of France and the prospects that come from democracy and republicanism.
  • United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland: The fact that things are going badly in France shows how important democracy is and there is talk of further reform to stop any silliness from occurring in Britain and so the reform act is passed giving more seats to the cities. It also increases the number of those enfranchised to vote to one-fifth of all adult men. Birthrates grow dramatically. Cornish engineer Adrian Stephens invents the steam whistle as a warning device at Dowlais Ironworks in Wales. The population grows as does the technology with more railways and factories. England has 12.6 million people and inside of that London has a population of 1.4 million, Wales has 0.8 million, Ireland has 6.3 million people and Scotland 1.8 million. A British task force of 2000 men, two first-rate ships-of-the-line, five second-rate ships-of-the-line and nine frigates is dispatched to Uluru for next year.
    • India: The New Indian Army continues to grow and a new training academy is established for the entire army regardless of whether they originate from Britain and India. They take the same courses and such and start at the same rank even if a British born officer is more likely to advance quicker. The population of Avalon is 1.6 million, Iroquois has four million and Savannah 3.8 million. There is fighting between the Iroquois tribes and the Kingdom of Iroquois because of the years of expansion into their land.
  • Swahili: We continue colonial expansion in Northern Somalia, in the South and in the Malindi and Mombasa area. Colonization steadily increases as medicine and weaponry become more widespread. Swahili merchants have captured this opportunity and begun the exporting of textiles to India, leading to a class of rich merchants and cotton plantation owners.
    • Huriya: Political integration continues with Swahili bureaucrats being sent to oversee more political processes.
    • Rowzi: Political integration continues with Swahili bureaucrats being sent to oversee more political processes.
  • Russia: Russian settlers are sent to the newly annexed territory to integrate it into Novorossiya. Colonial expansion into Alyeska and Resnov continues. In Russia itself the Decembrists make a secret come back, influencing a few army officers in the Novgorod Military Academy. A string baroque group from St Gregory in Novorossiya becomes a popular group in Novorossiya. This group, Cheslav Chistayavoda Vozrozhdeniya has several hit songs in their lifetime. These are White River, Born on the Frontier, Selected Son, and Proud Marianne. Provencal governors in Siberia agree to combine funds to majorly improve the Trans-Siberian Road.
  • Salish Nation: In a historic event known as "the expulsion", millions of Salish citizens are pushed out of their homes, most notably from Yakima and Tacoma. Most of them migrate to Dwuamish, causing some people to suggest ways of utilizing labour on a massive scale. The food to fuel this new urban area is coming from the California Valley, where new food producing methods are being developed to meet rising demand. A port in OTL Vallejo is sold to France. Some of the diaspora from "the expulsion" have migrated inland from California, founding settlements in OTL Salt Lake City and OTL Las Vegas.

No clue how my turn got under 1834.

1834

Argentine, stop trying to make a communist country in 1834.

A book is published called Germania calling for the establishment of a new united Germany, based on the kingdom of Napoleon.

The Zulu begin a war of conquest against their northern neighbors.

  • Argentine: (Alright, Scraw, I'll change it up a little). Proletarianism: is the basic belief that the people and workers should rule over the state and the country, and wish to make a nation without a defined head of state, but with a Council of Revolutionaries instead, which will have votes every four years deciding who will replace the previous councilmen. Proletarianism also believes in the destruction of basic feudalism, and a more fair economy as seen in France, with no feudal lords, of landlords, the people must buy land from the state. Anyway, back to the Civil War. With backing from the French, and the defections to the Revolutionary Army, the RA reaches 100,000 men, and gains more state of the art equipment and artillery. The Proletarians push farther into Northern Argentine, but still meet stiff resistance from the Argentine Army. The Patriarch of Argentine Sends an urgent message to the King of Brésil, requesting troops and aid from his realm (BRÉSILIAN RESPONSE NEEDED!). The Argentine civil war reaches a death count of 3000, but could drastically increase as the war drags on. People in the north still favor the Bishop, and are tolerant of his reforms, but still remember and feel nostalgic for the days of democracy. Some French shipments are destroyed or raided by the Argentine Navy, which is still fully loyal to the Patriarch, with only 3.5% of the navy defecting to the south. Slaves in the south rebel against their white masters, close to the capital as well. This causes a huge blow to the southern economy as it depended heavily on cotton, which would be picked by slaves, who also endured terrible conditions.
    • What workers? You don't have proper industrialization. There is no concept of the "worker" or the proletariat.
      • Never said I had a bunch of factories, don't know if you know this, but you can work at other things besides the factory.
  • Swahili: We continue colonial expansion in Northern Somalia, in the South and in the Malindi and Mombasa area. Colonization steadily increases as medicine and weaponry become more widespread. A class of rich merchants and cotton plantation owners begin controlling the social and political landscape of the Swahili heartland.
    • Huriya: Political integration continues with Swahili bureaucrats being sent to oversee more political processes.
    • Rowzi: Political integration continues with Swahili bureaucrats being sent to oversee more political processes.
    • Swahili Diplomacy (Mod): We ask the Swazi and other states north of the Zulu if they desire Swahili protection.
  • French Republic: By the end of the year, the army rests at around 310,000 by the end of the year, and is set to be expanded to 550,000, organized in 28 divisions, including 23 Infantry and five cavalry. Revolutionary groups are placed inside Iberia and Burgundy to help in promoting the image of France and the prospects that come from democracy and republicanism. Legislative elections take place, and it's to no one's surprise that the democratic-republicans win a majority of the seats, with the monarchists losing many of their previous seats due to the increased movement toward republicanism and democracy.
    • French Ere: The French agriculture economy continues to evolve in Benin, with many rare resources being extracted and exported to France.
  • Salish Nation: There is talk of dissent. The streets of Dwuamish are filled with talk of Ivan's cowardice, of how he signed the two treaties that took huge swaths of land from the Salish. Most disgruntled of all are the (former) residents of Skagit, who were unaware of the treaty until Russian frontiersmen showed up and pillaged their homes, raped and slew some of their friends, and then burned the town to the ground. The continuing influx of people fleeing the Russians causes more methods for large-scale utilization of labor to be developed. A farmer in Miwok invents a machine, that is described as follows: "This contraption, fastened onto a horse, is pulled over the grain, leaving the stalks cut in two. One man can now do the harvesting of three, for he is needed only for the raking of the fallen grains". So far, it has only gained popularity in the Mzer duchy, due to the minimal taxation there. WIP
  • Russia: Settlement of all of Novorossiya continues. Cossack Vyacheslav Markov settles in the new colony of Novaya Ruteniya (OTL Oregon) and begins to map the region. Seeing the cascades on the coast and the great basin to the east, he sends a letter to his Cossack friends and family in Siberia to come to Novorossiya and settle the new area. In Novgorod the Tsar and his generals begin planning other routes of expansion, Hawaii and the Khanate are temping targets, the Khanate for Siberian farming, and Hawaii for Russian dominance in the Pacific.
  • Kingdom of Burgundy: The 44-gun screw frigate Vuurbol is completed and commissioned into the Royal Navy, to begin immediate testing of steam power on naval vessels. Patagonië expands 50 px into unclaimed land. In Neiuw Zeeland, the muskets sold to the Maori in exchange for local commodities appears to be causing a spike in regional conflicts (OTL effects). Back home pro-French and Revolutionary groups remain on the fringe, as anything French is despised by the vast majority of the populace, and republicanism is widely derided as tantamount to anarchy. Meanwhile, the States-General passes the Kingdoms Ascension Act, reorganizing the colonial structures of Guyana, Kuba and New Netherlands into kingdoms in their own right, and granting their legislatures wide reaching autonomy over domestic matter, as well as direct representation in the States-General of Burgundy, while trade and foreign policy remain tied to that of Burgundy itself.
  • Aztlan: The settlement of Os Prados (OTL Las Vegas) expands. The remaining area around the Arkansas river is settled. A number of expeditions explore the area claimed by Aztlan. A major military expedition explores the area of the OTL Platte and Missouri. Other expeditions try to establish contacts with the various tribes. The combine harvester is invented. Population growth increases slightly. The industries expand with an increase in mechanization and steady increase in the number of factories. These industries include mining, printing, shipbuilding and manufacturing. Coastal trade expands in the Gulf and along the Pacific. Urbanization increases and cities expand. The Telegraph is invented.
  • United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland: Some talk of stuff going down in Germany is most disconcerting as is what is going on in Africa. Not much to be done, though. Birthrates grow dramatically. The population grows as does the technology with more railways and factories. England has 12.6 million people and inside of that London has a population of 1.4 million, Wales has 0.8 million, Ireland has 6.3 million people and Scotland 1.8 million. In Britain, based in southern England, the army rests at 10,000 professionals with 5000 men in Ireland. The number of railways being built increases with connections between the coal mines and industry towns on the north. St Vincent's Hospital is set up in Dublin by Mary Aikenhead, staffed by the Religious Sisters of Charity, the first hospital staffed by nuns in the English-speaking world. Jacob Perkins creates a cooling machine that uses ice, an early refrigerator. The British force that had been heading toward Uluru arrives this year in June and launches a landing at the mouth of the Murray River. The force of 2000 split in half with 1000 men remaining at the mouth of the Murray River and 500 men going to take Ngarrindjeri which is the capital and 500 going to take Nukunu. Travel overland is done by night. Barges are brought up the Murray river with supplies for the army.
    • India: The New Indian Army continues to grow and a new training academy is established for the entire army regardless of whether they originate from Britain and India. They take the same courses and such and start at the same rank even if a British-born officer is more likely to advance quicker. • Aztec Diplomacy: The Aztec Government requests the purchase of British Belize and the Tejas territory in exchange for money and port access to British warships and merchantmen.

1835

The pope is in ill health. He will die next year. Time to elect a new pope here.

  • French Republic: By the end of the year, the army rests at around 550,000, organized in 28 divisions, including 23 infantry and five cavalry. With the first democratic elections taking place, democratic-republican lawyer and politician Tobie Auguste wins the election by approximately 13 million against monarchist Abélard Gérald - a large landslide victory. The National Revival is declared by President Auguste in his inaugural speech, declaring that France will become the forefront of power through a number of reforms he wishes to put into effect during his tenure as President. WIP
    • French Ere: The agriculture economy continues to evolve in Benin with many rare resources being extracted and exported to France. French (as a language) is declared the official language and will be in effect by next year. A few churches are built, introducing the Beninese people to Jesus and Catholic Christianity in an effort to phase out Kuzirism and other local religions. The capital city of Kalabari is expanded greatly with construction efforts beginning to help modernize the city.
  • Argentine: Everything that has happened in the past few posts will be non-canon and everything will go back to the way it was before the coup and civil war. Argentine continues to be a stable, unified nation with a democracy and a prime minister. Conservatives and Liberals still continue to compete for power within the government by winning elections. The military is still on alert at the Brésilian-Argentine border, and the Prime Minister orders the construction of a new Fortress to be built on the border between Brésil and Argentine. A new strategy is created for war as well, such as using woman in warfare, but hold your horses, mods. The way woman are used will not be in the way that they are fighting in the army, but more as a moral booster, sort of like Joan of Arc, a female who ran around the battlefields of France, shouting encouragements to soldiers, and has been proven that this greatly increased moral, and eventually won the French the Siege of Orleans, so now, every division will also have a woman to encourage the soldiers, and maybe have the soldiers try harder to impress them, along with having those females have their own personal guard, and to protect them, and have the female have her own pistol to use to escape from danger. The Argentinian Army continues to develop, and the navy is worked on, but not a huge focus. An expedition is sent south, and are meant to map out the area, and possibly set up for future Argentine settlement and expansion into that area.
  • Russia: Colonization of Alyeska, Resnov and New Ruthenia continues. The first Cossacks begin to settle Novorossiya.
  • Belkan Federation: The Belkan novelist Jakob Dimitiglou writes an unpublished poem this year, relating a very strange dream he had. He dreamed that he was once Caliph of Islam, then Emperor of Shengdeia, then ruler of all of Africa, before returning to his own body. In general, Belka enters an era of Romanticist literature, writing long elegies of allegories and spiritual experiences. Novels relate of great legendary heroes of Belka, as well as legends from far off lands like Ethiopia and Shegndeia. The railroads are fully complete across Belka, connecting every major city. Two railroad companies have mostly monopolized the industry: Periander Railroads in the south, and Great Bulgar Railroads in the north. In spite of industralization across Belka, much of the southern provinces around Greece and Ionia still runs on plantations as an age-old tradition. Manually workers across the federation are descent from the Turkish slaves that were captured during the Great Turkish War centuries ago, forming a complete lower class of society. Laws of discrimination, based on contracted servitude from the 17th century, force the Turks to remain on a lower rung of the nation. Still, their population continues to grow, making up 4% of the national population, and in some communities as high as 15%. The Muslim Greek population, mostly around Naxos and Krete, are generally ignored completely from the social structure. The Slavic population concentrated in the north, being generally more industrial and liberally-minded, begin a social movement through romanticism toward the full abolition of this system. The Greek population in the south, however, are more grounded in traditional lifestyle, and their counter-movement decries Turks as a lower form of humanity. As a result, the Liberal Slavist party is most powerful among the northern provinces, emphasizing Belka as a pan-Slavic nation grounded on the wisdom of their Bulgarian roots. The conservative All-Belkan Party, however, is much more prevalent in the south. Their party focuses on Belka as a multi-national community, and should be tolerant of all native traditions, Greek and Slavic. Currently, the Slavist Party run by Nicholae Andronov is in control over the nation. With a majority in the Supreme Soviet as well, their liberal policies have been generally unopposed. Military technology is extremely well researched, coupling the new industries to maximize their potential. In foreign policy, the Vozhd and Supreme Soviet hopes to use their industries for expansion of control into Africa. To this end, Belka offers to help Egypt expand their universities and increase their industry, as a way of buying into their favor with a better deal than the British. Similarly, Belka sends high-ranking engineers to teach industrial technology to potential powerful allies, mainly Arabia and Brésil , all in the name of keeping their international commerce a step ahead of Britain. Finally, Belka offers close political relations to the French Republic, congratulating them on establishing a similar democratic government, and hoping in secret to sustain a bloc of power to keep Burgundy at bay.
  • United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland: Some talk of stuff going down in Germany is most disconcerting as is what is going on in Africa. Not much to be done, though. Birthrates grow dramatically. The population grows as does the technology with more railways and factories. England has 12.8 million people and inside of that London has a population of 1.4 million, Wales has 0.9 million, Ireland has 6.6 million people and Scotland 2.2 million. In Britain, based in southern England, the army rests at 10,000 professionals with 5000 men in Ireland. There are two fleets: one at Portsmouth and one at Bristol, each comprise ten first-rate ships-of-the-line, 24 second-rate ships-of-the-line and 50 frigates. The number of railways being built increases with connections between the coal mines and industry towns on the north. With the defeat of the Uluru swiftly, they break and negotiate peace with Britain. The British as a result construct a wooden fort and port at Kangaroo Island with several hundred Indians, and some Uluru captives, brought over from India to set up farms on the island consisting of sheep and some crops. While a Governor of Uluru is appointed due to the impossibility of rule right now he bases himself out of Kangaroo Island and agrees with the Emperor that in exchange for yearly provision of food the Emperor will remain in power. Joseph Henry invents the electric relay. The Mehican offers from last year are agreed to. The money from Tejas goes to Britain and is used to provide a temporary tax relief while the British Honduras money goes to the people.
    • India: The New Indian Army continues to grow and a new training academy is established for the entire army regardless of whether they originate from Britain and India. They take the same courses and such and start at the same rank even if a British-born officer is more likely to advance quicker. Some of the experienced Sepoy are put into officer training if they are Muslims. With Hindus it is done based upon caste while more British people trained in civil service academies are sent to India. The growth of charity schools in India continues.
    • Kingdom of Avalon, Iroquois and Savannah: The Kingdom of Iroquois expands 50 px west from Henry's Land into OTL Kentucky and Ohio. The Kingdom of Avalon 50 px expands along the northern side of the Great Lakes. Migration of those struggling due to industrialisation continues. There is an exploding amount of population with immigration, high birthrates and vast amounts of undiscovered land. The population of Avalon is 1.6 million, Iroquois has four million and Savannah 3.8 million. There is fighting between the Iroquois tribes and the Kingdom of Iroquois because of the years of expansion into their land. Samuel Colt invents the revolver.
  • Aztlan: Expansion continues along the northern frontier, mostly into OTL Oklahoma. Waves upon waves of immigrants continue to arrive and find employment in the growing industries in the north and the plantations, ranches and farms across the country. The printing industry grows as the penny press newspapers rise in popularity and have become commonplace. Cities expand facilitated by immigration and increased use of machinery in the farms, ranches and plantations. Population rates begin to grow. The University of Santo Antonio is established. The revolver is invented by Martin Alvares. The Santo Antonio Conference is presently underway including representatives from the Kingdoms of Iroquois, Savannah and Avalon, the United Kingdom, Russia and Aztlan.
  • Salish Nation: A strongly worded letter is sent to the president of Aztlan, requesting a seat at the ongoing conference. While on industry and innovation, the Salish Nation seems to be stable, things are not so well. Even with grain imported from California, the city of Dwuamish is heavily overcrowded. Ivan attempts to remedy this with an infrastructure program, but even then disease and starvation and poverty are rampant in most sectors of the city. This unemployment gives people time to stew. Stew about the humiliation of the two treaties, stew about their weak leader, about their lack of food. On June 13th, 1835, a shot is fired. It is disputed who fired it and why, but it narrowly missed Ivan Suiattle, instead hitting a civilian nearby. Ivan ordered martial law. On August 16th, a group of angry unemployed Salish stormed an armoury. The militia open fired, setting of a few powderkegs. The rabble that had just stormed the armory engaged in a firefighter with the militia, which ended with the death of 57 citizens nearby. The next day, an impromptu bomb explodes, killing Ivan. Madness ensues. A quarter of the city burns down, leaving hundreds homeless. A group known as the "Salishskiy revolyutsionnyy front" takes power, quickly consolidating California as well. The Mzer emperor flees into the mountains. On October 3rd, executions begin. Over 200 people are guillotined in two weeks. Sullenly, the city slides into a more quiet state. But many question if this is truly better.

The Pope is still very ill. Be sure to vote here for a new Pope if you have a vote.

In the Rhineland, a group called the Germania Front is formed for the unification of Germania as detailed in the book Germania. For now it is just a social club for proponents of a new Germania. Prince Napoleon is a secret member of this club under his false identity.

  • Yucatan: Yucatan declares independence from Aztlan and captures Merida even electing Jose Pacal as president. They take over all of Yucatan and Belize, invading Guatemala with a large rebel army.
    • You can't do this. -s
  • Belkan Federation: Jakob Dimitiglou settles in an Athens townhouse, publishing a corpus of poems to sustain himself until his next big novel. Dimitiglou is intrigued by the book Germania, and in response begins working on his novel: a romantic tale based on the life of Attila the Hun. Industrial companies become dominent over all of Belkan economy, which are gradually conglomerated under a few powerful individuals from Bulgaria and Romania. As these businesses are lined along the Danube, they are referred to as the "Robber-Barons". The corporations in Greece and similar southern parts, however, remain independent from this system, and have their own conglomerate corporations. Romanticist literature continue across the empire, but the cultural divide between Greeks and Slavs cause two different branches to emerge. Meanwhile, tensions over the issue of Turkish discrimination begins to turn violent. A Bulgarian abolitionist named Ivan Tuman begins recruiting an underground movement called the "Sons of Liberty" to begin forcing the southern provinces toward liberation. Tensions are worst in Illyria and Krete. Illyria is culturally split between supporters for or against abolition, while Krete has a largely-Muslim population dominated by an Orthodox minority. In order to stalemate the polarized government as much as possible, the All-Belka Party employs a universal "no" vote against the Slavicts in the Supreme Soviet. Military technology continues to greatly improve, including experiments with ironclads and breech-loaded rifles. Industrial technology continues to be sent to help sustain Arabia and Brésil. Egypt continues to be a point of focus to expand trade and colonization into Africa. Industries from Britain are secretly pushed back in order to sustain a foothold in Africa. Support contonues to be sent to the French Republic.
    • Argentine Diplomacy: (Hey, if he can support Brésil from the Balkans, then I can send a delegation to him) after five long and tough months of maritime travel the Balkans, the ten-man delegation of devout and patriotic Argentinian diplomats arrive in the port city of Patras, and knock on the mayor's door, requesting to see the Premier of Belka, as they wish to establish diplomatic relations with the Belkans because they are a strong nation and could be beneficial to us and them if we both are allies or have a trading agreement.
  • Argentine: We continue to develop our army, and begin trying to invest in European markets, specificly the colonial empires of Britain and Burgundy (Mod and Player response absolutely needed!): Our expeditionary force returns to the capital, New Vichy, and begins to show the Prime Minister the map they have drawn if the northern Patagonia region. The Prime Minister is impressed and sees many strategic and prosperous outcomes of this, plus securing their southern border from European empires in the South, and orders a full invasion of occupation of northern Patagonia, and orders for 230 Argentine families to go "colonize" the new territory once it has been fully occupied by the Argentine Military. We begin to adopt Brésilian Weaponry, trying to make our military on par with theirs. The fort the Prime Minister ordered to be built is almost complete, It shall be completed next year, and a vote shall be held on the name of it by the generals. Colonization of sparcely populated areas also begin, with many families moving into the western territories. Argentine continues to grow and expand, and has experienced great stability, especially since many people support the democratic and liberal ideals of the nation.
  • Aztlan: Expansion continues along the northern frontier, mostly into OTL Oklahoma. Waves of immigrants continue to arrive and find employment in the growing industries in the north and the expanding agricultural sector. Trade with Europe grows. The printing industry grows as the penny-press newspapers rise in popularity and have become commonplace in the cities. Cities expand facilitated by immigration and increased use of machinery on the farms, ranches and plantations. Officers continue to be trained in the Guadalajara Military Academy. The game of futbol, introduced by Hawaii increases in popularity. The Santo Didacus Naval Academy and Research Institute (Academia Naval de Santo Didacus e Instituto de Pesquisa/ANSDIP) is established in Santo Didacus. Samuel Moreno (who invented the telegraph) invents the Moreno Code (OTL Morse Code). The construction of the ships of the Pacific and Atlantic fleet is complete. It is decided that another two first-rates, four second-rates and four frigates are going to be added to the Pacific fleet. Work begins and dockyards are expanded along the Pacific Coast. The Atlantic fleet is charged with maintaining naval supremacy in the Gulf of Arcadia and the Yucatan Channel. The Atlantic fleet is composed of two first-rates, two second-rates, eight frigates (eight frigates were cancelled) and 14 sloops-of-war (12 gunships). The Navy has shifted its focus toward the Pacific and now receives greater funding from the government. The Pacific fleet at present is composed of two first-rates, 12 frigates and numerous auxiliaries including transports, the Pacific fleet does not have any sloops-of-war. The standing army size is reduced to 30,000 composed of 20,000 men of the Aztlan Guards and the rest are reorganized into the Hussars Regiment and the Grenadiers Regiment with integrated artillery and engineer support. The Army Research Institute is set up in Tenochtitlan. The Santo Antonio Conference ends with the signing of the Santo Antonio Pact (page will be up soon).
  • French Republic: As planned by President Auguste and supported by almost all of the population, war is declared against the Kingdom of Burgundy in an attempt to re-seize land previously lost in the Seven Year's War. Two fronts are established to begin with, with one front being opened in Lorraine to begin a push for the Burgundian capital of Dijon to attempt possible capitulation while another front is opened in Belgium to begin a push for Brussels, the most populated city in Burgundy. 100,000 troops are sent to push each front (200,000 used in total). So far, the war this year is stalemated, but the President spreads the message of there being a victory on the fronts to better keep patriotism alive.
The number of railways being built increases with connections between the coal mines and industry towns on the north. Following up on last year's gains in Uluru, the British decide to construct a foothold on the mainland right across the Straits from Kangroo Island at Narungga Peninsula (Yorke Peninsula) with the Emperor being forced to provide labour with rotating workers for the construction of a defensive line consisting of a stone wall with wall towers and ditches running from OTL Port Arthur to Moonta Bay while settlers are landed and start farming.
The administration sets out on constructing a new strategic fortress with the harbour at Rajapuri significantly expanded and defences are built around it consisting of ditches and blockhouses connected by trenches. This will take some time to build. Murud-Janjira Fort is renovated to protect the entry the harbour.
• Salish Nation|Revolutionary Republic of Salish: As it becomes evident that California still favors Ivan, the Revolutionary forces are unable to control the Mzerkans. They are pushed out of Lucentium. Because of this, a petition is sent to France, asking for artillery to help quell the rebellion.
  • Mayan Empire: Mayan Empire demands independence from Aztlan and riots break out in former Mayan land.
    • You can't create a rebellion in another player's nation. -s

  • La Consularia Iberia:
    • En el Palacio del Pan: The People rejoice under the fair laws and rule of the Breadists. The countryside, although once burdened by terrible war has been revitalized through the wisdom of the Breads. The Breads have made Iberia strong. So go the propaganda newspapers.
    • En el Cortes Generales: The government is in gridlock. While the revolution succeeded in the early years corruption has crept back into the country. The ex-nobility, the wealthy, and the military all pull on the strings of the weak federal government which now struggles to provide the bread it promised. High taxation, inefficient spending, and an appalling legal system all inflame public sentiment. In name the Breads control the Cortes Generales, but the true power lies in their backing among the landed elites. While the original revolution promised land reform and freedom such promises could not be kept. Some landowners were stripped of their property many others were spared, and a series of droughts forced many small farmers to sell their properties to the elite once again. Due to the poor political climate the increase in landless laborers leads to an increase in urbanization as farmers flee poverty in the countryside. The growing labor pool causes wages to collapse and the economic slump faced by Iberia worsens. Regardless, the government, ineffectually, attempts to improve the economy by subsidizing efforts to adopt some English industrial production methods.
    • En el Campamento de Maximiliano Zapico: “El Pan está muerto” come the murmures in the night in the camp of the 8th Legion of Bread. Capitán Maximiliano Zapico, a well-known and respected General with many years of service across the Iberian territorial possessions and internally. Although not a Captain, the General prefers to be addressed by the lower and more approachable rank. He can often be found walking amongst his poorly dressed and fed soldiers, himself looking less than well put. His humility has put him at odds with the majority of the military as most generals are in the business of corruption. However, his soldiers love him.
    • If someone could let me know about any historical discrepancies I might be overlooking that would be great.

1837

In Peru as the French go to war with Burgundy and have already done some other radical republican things. The French descended Peruvian nobles and landowners become angry and declare independence quickly gaining control of the country. The main land owners meet and establish a democracy centred around the landowning elites.

The Germania Front begins holding public demonstrations and meetings in the Rhineland. They also begin publishing a weekly pamphlet to circulate the Germania concept to people.

In China, former sailors of the East Indies Company become pirates and begin terrorizing the southern Chinese coast. Also, there is a great flood of the Yellow River which leads to widespread death and destruction.

  • La Consularia Iberia:
    • En el Palacio del Pan: The People rejoice under the fair laws and rule of the Breadists. The countryside, although once burdened by terrible war, has been revitalized through the wisdom of the Breads. The Breads have made Iberia strong. So goes the propaganda newspapers.
    • En el Cortes Generales: Despite the economic troubles which plague Iberia, the Cortes Generales pass legislation to reclaim the territory of Navarre from the occupying French. The decision comes to suppress not only political unrest in the lower classes, but also to appease military commanders who want the chance to win fame and glory on the field of battle. A formal declaration of war is delivered to Paris as Iberian Regulars begin to occupy the province (Solace and I have discussed this, and it will be a scripted war). The mobilization effort causes a brief economic resurgence as the government stimulates economic growth through the purchase of arms and the recruitment of soldiers. Efforts to improve the economy by subsidizing efforts to adopt some English industrial production methods continue, but are slowed by the war effort.
    • En ruta a San Sebastián con Maximiliano Zapico: The 8th Legion has been deployed in the reconquest of Navarre from the French Invaders. The whole of the Iberian Army of 72,000 is massed along the Pyrenees to repel any French attacks as the 16,000 soldiers of the 8th and 6th Legions quickly surround and lay siege to the lightly garrisoned border forts.
    • En las Antillas Ibéricas: La Asamblea Colonial continues to encourage the production of sugar for export and sale. While the region faces stiff competition from other sugar producing countries the business is still profitable.
    • En las Indias Orientales Ibéricas: La Asamblea Colonial continues to encourage the production of spices for export and sale. While the region faces stiff competition from other spice producing countries the business is still profitable.
    • En África Occidental Ibérica: The Iberian African trade ports have long been outposts of Iberian influence in the South Atlantic and have served Iberia well in providing trade opportunities. However, the Colonial Governor, Santiago Fernández, has ambitions for the scattered settlements. He personally travels between the several outposts of the West Coast of Africa and begins drafting the expansion of Iberian influence in the area.
    • Hello. Just here to remind scrawland to read my earlier question and respond, please.
  • Argentine: We support and recognize the Peruvian's self will to fight and declared support for them. We Officially recognize Peru as an Independent country from France making any previous plans for establishing good relations with France out of the question. Argentine political leaders and military commanders see the war in Iberia as beneficial as maybe they could get Iberia to try to reclaim their colonies in Laurentania, and both Argentine and Iberia could team up on Brésil, but the Prime Minister and his cabinet outright reject this because it's simply upsired, but do express their wishes to reinstate that their rivalry with Brésil is still continuing, despite diplomatic advancements in the past, but also express wishes for cooperation in the bettering of laurentania's future. The Argentine Military High Commande decide that they will send weapons and resources to Peru, and receives permission from the Prime Minister, if they need it. We also vow to protect Peru from French Imperialist Aggression. The Argentine Government will officially stay neutral in the Ibero-Franco war, but we do hold some sympathies with the Iberian Cause and their ideology. The generals vote for the name of the fort on the border with Brésil and Argentine, and it will be called "Fort Lawrence", and has been completed this year. The first few soldiers have arrived, and their weapons and artillery have also arrived. Colonization and settlement into northern Patagonia continues (mapmakers, just color in all - if not most - of northern Patagonia), with many families coming to seek lands, as pamphlets and newspapers had told that the state has gotten new land for the people, and also told tales of new and exotic places, never scene before by human beings. This mostly was to increase tourism, and settlement there, with many adventurers and scientists, many, not finding the tall tales of "New and Exotic Places", but instead a very good fertile place to farm, and a whole lot of granite and lakes. Most Argentine families go to Patagonia to seek a new life, and New and larger land, so they can farm on the fertile soil, with a lake near by. Our navy is expanded by a little, mostly so they can guard the shipment of weapons to the Peruvian cause, and many resources, as they will be shipped on disguised merchant vessels, as they don't want any French ships to uncover the mass exodus of Argentine shipments to the Peruvian rebels, even though they could probably take on the French. Argentine Nationalism and Unity is high, and the economy is very stable, and is growing, and the investments and trade from Belka, that is aimed at expanding and helping grow industry in Argentine, the economy could see massive, but slow, industrialization.
Officers continue to be trained in the Guadalajara Military Academy and the Santo Didacus Naval Academy. The game of futbol increases in popularity. With Europe once again embroiled in war, a massive number of immigrants flock to Aztlan. The Pacific fleet is given its first major task, to conquer Hawaii and its territories. War is declared on Hawaii in early March. This is done to assert Aztlan's naval dominance in the Pacific and compensate for the loss of the General Geronimo Islands (Galapagos). Parts of the Atlantic fleet are called off from active duty and are presently in reserve to keep the balance. The Aztec Pacific fleet is the largest naval force in the Pacific. The Pacific fleet (currently composed of three first-rates, four second-rates, ten frigates and numerous auxiliaries including transports with more ships under construction) quickly moves to the main Hawaiian islands with 2000 troops and swiftly gains control of the main islands. The King dies during the bombardment of the Royal Palace. With the capital under control, Hawaii surrenders (they had a negative war effort timer) not able to withstand the technologically advanced Aztec Navy. Although Hawaii has surrendered, poor communications between its far-flung territories forces parts of the Pacific fleet (and 1000 troops) to go on an island-opping campaign to take over the sparsely populated islands which were previously under Hawaiian control. The campaign is likely to be finished next year. The rest of the 1000 troops remain and establish a garrison in Hawaii. With the main Hawaiian Islands firmly under control of Aztlan, the Hawaiians are made equal citizens of the Republic of Aztlan. Seats are provided for the representation of Hawaii in the National Assembly. Many of the far-flung erstwhile Hawaiian territories (all the Hawaiian territories as you see on the map) are not under direct Aztec control, it is made clear that they are territories of Aztlan. A large number of Aztecas start moving to settle the sparsely populated Hawaiian islands. A telegraph network is set up between Guadalajara and Tenochtitlan.
    • Did you even make an algo LOL? I believe you are severely underestimating how modernized Hawaii is in this timeline. ~Nic
    • The bottom line is, they have a popn less than one million, are a pre industrial society, none of the islands can support a proper modern army or a sizable modern navy. Their territories are far away annd none of them have a sizable popn or effective communications.
  • Belkan Federation: Jakob Dimitiglou continues working on his novel, The Hunnica, while staying in his townhouse in Athens. He publishes pamphlets regarding his opinion of German nationalism, and how important it is for Belka to have similar goals. Robber-Barons across the Danube continue to expand the industrial scene of Belka, as well as their own domination over it. Basil Bartoma, one of the richest men in Belka, pledges his support for the Slavist party, and encourages similar industrial giants to aid the liberals. This creates a shift in working conditions of Belkan industry, as this top-down support creates more confortable atmosphere for the lower classes. However, as the Greek parts in the south grow more perpendicular to this trend, more radical conservative groups form to support the traditional plantations of Turkish servitude. The All-Belkan Party, working to gain more support in general, swings towards this far-right opinion. Ivan Tuman strikes terror as a fort in Pella is captured by the Sons of Liberty, in the hopes of using its armament to liberate the Turks in Greece. Georgy Brusilov Yankovic, great nephew of the famous General Brusilov, leads the attack to defeat Tuman and retake the arsenal. Meanwhile, Illyria is even more violent, with both abolitionists and radical conservatives committing vandalism against innocents on the opposite side. Elections are preparing for next year, in which the All-Belkan Party are preparing for an ambitious push for more power in the governmnet. Still, several smaller moderate parties also exist. Industrial military hardware continues to be improved. Belka throws its support for the French Republic, and sends much of its military to defend Navarre as well as soldiers to the Burgundy front. A draft is imposed in the nation to create more support. Support is sent to Arabia and Argentina to help establish their industrial base. Support is shifted to Argentina to encourage democracy being seeded in Peru. Trade continues to bolster with Egypt and Africa to expand economy in the continent.
  • Kingdom of Burgundy: With the national emergency declared following France’s unprovoked invasion, recruitment into the army increases dramatically. With the outnumbered Royal Armies having managed to force a stalemate, they are ordered to fortify their positions, and individual cavalry regiments are tasked with disrupting French lines of communication and supply. Due to the reorganized mobilization system implemented the previous decade (based on the OTL Prussian Mobilization system), the frontlines are able to be quickly reinforced with fresh troops, resulting in an additional 70,000 men being sent to each front. The nascent rail system goes into overtime, shuttling troops and supplies over distances faster than by carriage. The navy, now equipped with exploding shells, is tasked to blockade France, while lighter units such as frigates are sent to harrass French and French-Allied shipping. Burgundy also sends a request for help to the Rhineland, citing cultural and historical ties to the Rheinish states of the old HRE, as well as offering it the French territory of Alsace, Home to a sizable German-speaking community (mod response, please).
    • Rhine: No, Person
  • Swiss Confederacy: The Swiss National Bank continues to expand its assets and along with low regulations, the Swiss banking industry continues to grow exponentially. The cities continue to grow and hold most of the economic power. With low federal funds from the cantons, the government decides to stop pursuing the idea of compulsory cantonal education for a while, and focus more on subsidizing industry and universities. This is very good for Swiss business. Proto-factories continue to develop while the workshop system mainly continues only in the countryside.
  • German Empire: Frederick III of Prussia unites the Prussian kingdoms and is crowned Kaiser Frederick III in Berlin and the German Empire is born. It is able to be a powerful land and wishes to look toward colonizing some of Africa and the New World and the Kaiser sends explorers to Canada to look for a good place to make a sustainable colony. However, they first need a docking point and requests docking rights from the UK, Russia and Burgandy. To explore Africa and the New World they need these docking rights.
    • There is no Germany.
  • Kingdom Of Saxony: Saxony decides to try to explore the world and establish a colonial empire, but to do that they request docking rights from the UK, Russia and Burgundy to explore the New World and Africa in the hopes of colonizing unexplored land on both continents.
  • Read the rules on colonisation, you have no coast nor approval. Person
    • Kingdom Of Saxony: In an attempt to gain a coastline in a quest for a colonial empire and invades the Rhine to get to the coast.
    • Rhine has a coast right? If not, I'll pull out and need somebody to tell me a neighbor with a coast.
    • Rhine has a coast, but you know the consequences of this, right? Rhine is very likely more powerful then you, and this war will most likely get Rhineland support from major powers such as Burgundy, France, and England. This game is VERY realistic and strict, we also have a war system which will also decide the outcome of this war, so I would suggest you pull out, because you also won't get a Colonial Empire, cause you'd have to build up your navy for decades, and fight many natives and nations in those areas to get a colony, I say just focus on developing your nation and the politics of the surrounding region (the HRE) then try to conquer. ~~The History Nerd
    • Very unrealistic as Saxony and Rhineland are co-dependent and closely aligned. I recommend you do what the person above said. -s
    • Well, it turns out Saxony has coast, my bad, not that you're an approved coloniser you need to get three mods to approve that. As I say read the rules on colonisation. Person
  • French Republic: With a large focus on breaking the stalemates on all fronts, 50,000 more men are sent to each front in an attempt to break the front and push into the Burgundian capital city of Dijon. The loss of Peru is relatively not cared for, due to its independence having been expected for a long time now. President Auguste begins to plan out what will happen post-war upon the news of a victory, and accepts the fact that Burgundy will no longer be a legitimate state due to thoughts of another war coming along in the future. An alliance is asked with the Rhineland to help in the war effort to begin a two-front war. The offer being the entirety of OTL Netherlands, a large industrial and economically-fulfilling region (mod). To counter any offers that Burgundy may have sent to the Rhineland, President Aguste also reminds the Rhineland that Burgundy was against them in the Napoleonic War. The invasion by Iberia is looked at, with around 50,000 soldiers being sent to attempt to stop the Iberian invaders. Conscription of men begins as the war is expected to last a while.

  • China: The Kangxi Emperor dies of smallpox. His nephew, Kim Sung-hwan, rises to the throne, assuming the regnal name as the Xindai Emperor. The flood of the Yellow River is contained with a series of dykes and levies, while displaced populations are resettled in the frontier areas of China. Population growth continues to be reined in due to anti-natalist policies, while the encouragement of abstinence and devices such as glans condoms as contraception, while abortifacient herbs prescribed to women with unwanted pregnancies. Trading relations are liberalized once again, with the semi-isolationist policy repealed. Preferential trade agreements are ended, while the port of Tiwei is retroceded back to Uluru, as China no longer upholds its obligations set by the Treaty of Ngarrindjeri and withdraws from it. The implementation of irrigation and injection of intensive capital allows for an increase in agricultural productivity; resulting in a rise in food supply. Root crops are cultivated alongside traditional grains. Trade tariffs and other protectionist policies are liberalized in order to acquire overseas produce in-exchange for gold. The mining industry continues to see a boom, with anthracite, gold, copper, and iron being mined; with gold and copper underpinning promissory notes and being stored in vaults. Industrial facilities continue to churn out massive volumes of wrought iron from pig iron, as well as gunpowder and other processed commodities; most of which are utilized in the production of various armaments, firearms, and artillery to be stored in arsenals. However, due to the lack of military conflict, conscription tax is abolished and the size of the army is greatly reduced. Military administration also begins to become more lax and corrupt. A hundred naval vessels, most of whom iron-clad armored turtle-ships armed with naval artillery, are sent south to crush piracy, with many pirates in wooden junks. Immense commercialization continues, aided by heavy infrastructural development and a strong internal demand for consumer goods and luxury items. Basic sanitation and hygiene is taught, and public bathhouses, spas, latrines and sewage systems are all built.

Siberian crab apples become a local renowned fruit, and is particularly prized in Korea and northern China.
    • Xizang (protectorate): Lhasa, the capital, is expanded and modernized. The Tibetan clergy continues to administer the protectorate, with its leader, the Dalai Lama, being considered a vassal or substitute monarch. Many Tibetans are encouraged (via financial incentives) to become more sedentary, with food instead being supplied from nearby Sichuan (thereby reducing overreliance in inefficient herding).
    • North Mongolia (protectorate): Yurt is settled further. A healthy aquaculture industry is established, harvesting and raising fish from Lake Baikal.
  • Kingdom Of Saxony: The nation works on building a large navy and improving relations with The Rhineland and the French.
    • P.S. Do I have a coast? and also does the Rhine or France need anything from me? I'm trying to take a different approach to get the hang of this so this might go horribly.
    • Were you just told you had a coast, but you need to apply to colonize, and needs approval from three mods.
    • Wait, you did. Oh, sorry. I didn't see but what do you mean by I need to apply?
    • By that I mean you need to apply to be a colonizer. We have rules on this. You make your request to become one on the talk page for Principia Moderni IV. There, three mods will have to accept your request. If all mods say no, then you can't colonize, and if you try to do so anyway, well, you'll probably end up getting a strike.
  • United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland: Some talk of stuff going down in Germany is most disconcerting as is what is going on in France and Burgundy. Works continue on the construction of defences on the Yorke Peninsula along with the raising of agricultural tithe. Right now Uluru isn't making that much money. Isambard Kingdom Brunel's paddle steamer SS Great Western is launched in Bristol. Euston station is opened as the first London terminus. Michael Faraday introduces the concept of lines of force.
    • India: The New Indian Army continues to grow and a new training academy is established for the entire army regardless of whether they originate from Britain and India. Some of the experienced Sepoy are put into officer training if they are Muslims. With Hindus it is done based upon caste while more British people trained in civil service academies are sent to India. The growth of charity schools in India continues. The administration sets out on keeping up work a new strategic fortress with the harbour at Rajapuri significantly expanded and defences are built around it consisting of ditches and blockhouses connected by trenches. This will take some time to build. Murud-Janjira Fort is renovated to protect the entry the harbour. Money is put into schools.

The Kingdom of Avalon 50 px expands along the northern side of the Great Lakes. Migration of those struggling due to industrialisation continues. There is an exploding amount of population with immigration, high birthrates and vast amounts of undiscovered land. The population of Avalon is 1.6 million. Iroquois has four million and Savannah 3.8 million.
A class of rich merchants and cotton plantation owners continues controlling the social and political landscape of the Swahili heartland. To counter their influence, industrialists and traditional military figures form a loose alliance. The navy fights off more Iberian fleets and tries to pressure Iberia into accepting a peace with the current borders (including occupation). The past decades were a period of growth in the Swahili scientific and technological fields followed by peace at the end of the civil war and a need for recovery.

1838

The Zulus continue to conquer.

Flooding in Hungary as the Danube overflows its banks due to rain and melting snow, 150 drown and Budapest is hit. There is death of some crops. Food relief will be required for people.

In Hawaii, the new King of Hawaii after the old one died travels to Moscow and asks for Russian help to drive the Aztlan invaders out promising basing rights to Russia. However, while he is gone, his nephew claims regency and continues to fight the invaders.

Officers continue to be trained in the Guadalajara Military Academy and the Santo Didacus Naval Academy. The game of futbol increases in popularity. With Europe once again embroiled in war, a massive number of immigrants flock to Aztlan. Mining operations expand with increased mechanization and the production of iron ore rises. The island hopping campaign is completed and all of the Hawaiian territories (the main islands and other territories) are now under direct Aztec control, although many islands with small populations are left on their own, they are still Aztec territory. The Aztec Navy sets up a naval base in Honolulu (the capital of Hawaii) for the Pacific fleet. Another base is set up Suva to house a small flotilla for patrolling in Polynesia. The expansion of the Pacific fleet is complete and it now stands at four first-rates, four second-rates, 16 frigates and numerous auxiliaries including transports. The Atlantic fleet is currently in reserve while the Pacific fleet is on alert because of the recent standoff with Russia. An additional 1000 troops are sent over to Hawaii. The Hawaiian (Main Islands) Garrison presently consists of 2000 troops while the rest of the island territories are guarded by the 1000 men strong Polynesia Garrison. The Army in the mainland stands at 27,000 troops. 3000 additional troops are recruited this year as part of the newly raised Marine Corps. Meanwhile, the first elections take place in Hawaii for the seats in the National Assembly allotted to Hawaii. The telegraph network starts to expand with the first telegraph company being set up. The first railway company is chartered. Diplomats are sent to China with gifts for the Emperor and a request for a trade deal and a request to establish trading posts. (CANDIES RESPONSE)

In return for this act, the Tsar offers to buy Midway Island and a perminant naval base in Honolulu harbor, Hawaii and Russia will establish a “Close friendship” (Mod response). The local general in Novorossiyan makes no allusions this exposition could spell war for the colony, and begins prepping a colonial militia of 15,000.

  • La Consularia Iberia:
    • En el Cortes Generales: After the disaster in Navarre with the destruction of the 6th Legion, the Cortes Generales sends a diplomatic channel to the French and Belkan Empires seeking a white peace. The mobilization effort which caused a brief economic resurgence has led to a massive economic crisis as a tax increase ruins many smaller peacetime industries. Trade revenues from the colonies falter due to Swahili Piracy, so the Consularia dispatches an armed diplomatic mission to attempt a settlement with the Swahili over their raids on our shipping convoys. In some cities people take to the streets in protest of the failed economics of the government.
    • En San Sebastián con Maximiliano Zapico: After the swift occupation of Navarre, Iberian forces dig in along the regional border. However, the Belkan force dispatched to Navarre arrives before fortifications are completed. The 6th Legion is caught surprised during their mid-day siesta after hours of fortification construction. The small Belkan force quickly routes the significantly larger Iberian Army. General Maximiliano Zapico, after hearing of the confrontation deploys his 8th Legion in an effort to prevent the Belkan force from encircling the 8th. Zapico splits his army, leaving half of the 8000 to defend the town of San Sebastián and taking the remaining 4000 to engage and repel the enemy as they traverse a mountain pass. The battle is fierce, and both the Belkan and Iberian forces savage each other with repeated charges and cannonades. Iberian light infantry manage to scale a cliff and outflank the Belkan Army forcing their withdrawal. Unfortunately, despite Zapico’s best efforts, the high command orders his retreat. Regardless of the command to withdraw and the strategic defeat, Capitan Zapico win the admiration of the entire nation. When the remains of the 8th Legion reach Valladolid they are met by cheering crowds.

  • Belkan Federation: Jakob Dimitiglou begins to run low on funds, and so moves out of the townhouse into a nearby apartment in Athens. He is very hopeful, however, as he is almost finished with The Hunnica, incorporating ongoing political events as he goes along. The flooding of the Danube in Hungary proves disasterous for the external corporations of the Robber-Barons, as well as the Slavist party they support. Basil Bartoma's company lost several million ruples, removing him from the richest man in Belka and replacing him with Siegu Volda. Both Volda and Bartoma, however, continue to be a major force in backing the Slavist party financially. However in their weakened state. Volda made a statement to the press that he whole-heartedly supports the complete aboliton of Turkish servitude, seeing its racism as abhorant to the ideals of a truly Slavic nation. The All-Belkan Party is quick to capitalize on this weakness, putting a conserted effort in their campaign to win control over all the southern provinces. The Greek provinces of Belka see the collapsing finances of the Robber-Barons as a natural consequence of their corrupt and unstable system. Ivan Tuman's radical abolitionists are defeated, and he is subsequently tried for treason and hanged. In Illyria, however, the violence has only increased over time, as well as the islands of Crete and Naxos. In the election at the end of this year, a far larger minority of seats on the Supreme Soviet are elected from among the All-Belkan Party, crushing their previous supermajority. Subsequent to the election, all moderate parties are quickly dying out, completely polarizing the nation. The government continues to fully support the development of larger, more effective miltary hardware. Support continues to be sent to Argentina, but a larger diplomatic mission is sent to Aztlan. The Supreme Soviet reluctantly agrees to a white peace with Iberia, unable to continue their aid to France on that front. No more reinfocrments are sent to the Burgundian front, but they will continue to help France until the war is over. Support continues to be sent to Arabia, firmly establishing their industrial base, while trade is also going to Egypt. A single fleet of three ships, commanded by Commadore Ferdinand Kuchka, visits the city of Houngzhou in China. The commadore hopes to open diplomatic relations between the Jin Dynasty and the Belkan Federation.

Diplomats are sent to Peru to establish official relations and to set up an embassy in Lima. We send Peru many resources including wheat, small amounts of gold, and some copper. The British regulars and the local populace are impressed into making the area defensible by constructing light defensive fortifications on the outlying hills around the city for a start, defences are also prepared facing the sea in case they come that direction. England has 13.3 million people and inside of that London has a population of 1.4 million, Wales has one million, Ireland has 6.6 million people and Scotland 2.4 million. Works finish on the defences of the Yorke peninsula with trench lines and forts while explorers are sent out to look for an inland sea, gold or anything worth much really. Until then the Uluru are ruled only by tribute while the British settle the Yorke peninsula. The first screw-pile lighthouse is built by Alexander Mitchell on Maplin Sands in the Thames Estuary. • Salish Revolutionary Republic: All Californian resistance is crushed under the new model of warfare. Many in Mzerka debate their place in this new exclusively Salish run nation. However, elsewhere things are turning up. In Dwuamish, the shipbuilding industry is booming, as well as lumber processing. Borimir Kharkov, the current president, is negotiating with French investors, trying to secure a railway deal. He promises favorable trade, as well as leave to exploit the resources of the nation, for five years. The railway will connect Lucentium with Dwuamish, and is planned to be started next year and finished in three years.

  • Argentine: We inform the world that are name is Argentine and not Argentina in this timeline, as we are French, this is the French name for Argentina. A local fiction writer, and history enthusiast writes a book titled ”The World that Never Happened” and depicts a Napoleonic Victory in Europe, and a German occupation of Paris, and an economically weakened, and defeated British Empire, and depicts the German Empire rising up, and becoming master of Europe, and taking Britain’s place as an economic powerhouse in the world, with France becoming a rump state, and Burgundy being annexed into the German Empire. The Argentine government is surprised to find out that Britain has simingly been able to send reinforcements to Burgundy’s colonies without even asking permission, immeditaley conspiracies go around about how the British government secretly controls all of Europe’s governments, never the less, we continue to militarize our border with Burgundy’s Colony in Patagonia. Argentine Nationalism is at an all time high, many are feeling confident in their government and that they will always have their citizens' backs, though, with the way things are going with Burgundy, and possible war with Britain, this could easily change. The Argentine economy continues to boom, and slow industrialization continues with Belkan aid, with many Argentinians finding factory jobs in the big cities, and some in minor cities, but only a few in minor cities, the governments announces that it will take some time to completely industrialize its economy to where factories are a key factor and a common job an Argentinian has, but say that this will greatly help our economy and keep up competition with Brésil. Our economy is mainly agricultural and export dependent, along with dependency in household things. Colonization of Patagonia increases, with hundreds of new families settling down in the flat and fertile plains of Patagonia. We continue to send aid and resources to help develop Peru.

  • Swiss Confederation: With the cities and the Tagastzung being increasingly liberal, this stirs up conservatives in the countryside who desire a more religious state where the cantons have a higher degree of independence. This leads to two revolts happening during the year. The Leventiputsch and the Schangnaputsch. Both of these revolts were unsuccessful but the cause continues to gain support in the countryside. This year the Tagastzung decides to rename the universities to the name of their location. The specific curriculum-focused aspect of the university system is still kept intact. Another decree is also passed that university documents and other official documents in the confederacy must be in Eidgenösserisch. The desire is that everyone's native tongue becomes Eidgenösserisch, but they still retain their "cultural" language (French, German, etc). Proto-industry continues in the cities, workshop system in the countryside. Banking industry continues to grow exponentially.
  • French Republic: With the military campaigns continuing to show signs of stalemate, more men are continuously conscripted as the total active troops number raises to 800,000. Almost all of the navy is tasked with taking out the small but continuously getting worse blockade, placed by Burgundy, in an effort to re-initiate trade to further the war effort. A new trade pact is offered with Sicily, the Maghreb, the Rhineland, Prussia, Arabia-Persia, and Peru (Mod). Industrialization continues. Factories have begun to slowdown, but the production of goods continues to remain relatively high. All campaign fronts are properly re-freshened with another 100,000 troops each.
    • French Indonesia: Colonization of Papua New Guinea continues, as well as trade with China. A trade pact with Japan is initiated under the condition that the French fully recognize Japanese claims on Jakarta (Mod).

Meanwhile, the Navy continues to clamp down on French ports, looking to impede food shipments from Benin. Several squadrons of frigates are sent to the Mediterranean to close off the southern ports. To Argentine, an envoy is sent, saying that Burgundy will not simply hand over territory inhabited by Burgundians for hundreds of years, and will fight to defend those citizens.

    • En el Cortes Generales: The economic downturn of 1838 quickly became a full scale recession in the early months of 1839. Across the country tenant farmers and small scale laborers found themselves facing homelessness and destitution in the cold late winter. Moreover, hundreds of soldiers desert the ruinously corrupt military. With thousands out of work and even the wealthiest facing economic stress the nation looks for an answer. In the Cortes Generales there is discussion of the growing economic problems but the three major factions: the Republicanos, the Principalos, and the Reignos fail to reach an agreeable consensus. The infighting and factionalism only become more public with the elections of 1839 in which the Republicanos lost their majority and face a loose coalition of the Principalos and the Reignos. After the summer and with the economic situation looking even bleaker the Cortes Generales face an increasingly desperate and disgruntled population.
    • En Valldolid con Maximiliano Zapico: Across the country he is simply known as “El Salvador de Iberia.” However, despite having been hailed as a war hero, in late November General Zapico is summoned to the Militar Principal where despite his success in defending Iberia from the Belkian forces he is promptly dismissed. Upon hearing the news, the 8th Legion is drawn up by the four “Tenientes de Du Mil.” The 8th is well known as one of the most effective combat forces in all of Iberia due in part to Zapico’s inspirational leadership and his ability to out maneuver and overcome corrupt supply officers. Thus, when the Tenientes de Du Mil lead the 8th into the heart of Valladolid the Republican Guard is quickly forced to surrender. The 8000 strong Legion storms the Cortes Generales, the Militar Principal, and the Armoria Vallodolid. The people of Valladolid, already enraged by the failures of the Cortes Generales join the 8th in its march through the capital and after only six hours of sporadic fighting the Loyalists are defeated. By mid-December the Consularia is engaged in a brutal Civil War between the Consolar Loyalistas and the Frente Popular.

In July, a sudden revolt of Turkish slaves in Krete ends up killing half a dozen Greek masters, and taking over the island as a Muslim state. This is quickly followed by similar revolts across the other island districts of the Kretan province. The Supreme Soviet votes by vast majority to raise military to put down the revolt, and crush the servants. The abolitionists of the Slavist party, however, insists on negotiating with the Turks instead. As a result, the Vozhd vetos the decision. The Supreme Soviet considers the Vozhd's decision an act of treason, and begins raising money for arms manufacturing in Greece and Albania. The Vozhd calls this act as a direct violation of his veto, and responds by imposing a firearm restriction program across the Federation. Fearing the reaction of the Soviet to this, the Vozhd immediately recalled all military abroad to return home at once. When the Supreme Soviet refused to acknowledge that program, The Vozhd declared the Soviet illegitimate. The Slavist and independents in the Soviet left to follow the Vozhd, who then held a mock election to fill the remaining seats. The remainder of the Soviet relocated to Vasiligrad, and elected a new Vozhd, Dimitri Kostfolios, from the most radical conservatives. Dimitri proceeds to declare the Greek parts of Belka as a new nation, henceforth known as the Greek Federation. It is at this point, in October that year, that the Belkan Civil War officially began. The first phase of the war is fighting for control of the Danube, as it is the most major region separating the Slavic capital in Belgrade from the Greek capital in Vasiligrad. Albania is also a fighting ground, as the Albanian governmnet is in favor of joining with Greece. The Slavists are confident they will crush this by next year, as they have both numerical and industrial advantage. Ferdinand Kuchka remains on his mission in China.
