Portuguese, Galician, and some Castilian nobles declare Manuel, the Duke of Bragança, to be the King of a restored Portugal. Manuel declares that Portugal is completely and irrevocably free from Spanish influence and rule, and dissolves his relationship with the government in Toledo. Some Portuguese people loyal to Manuel assault the celebrations of the 50th anniversary and the Iberian monarch catches on fire but does not die. Some visiting dignitaries from other nations are also assaulted, with injuries ranging from minor to major. Although the troublemakers are apprehended, the issue is now a big deal and there must be a response.

Tseteg is declared Khan of Khans or as he draws in the remainder of the Central Asian Khans and their hordes. A Significant chunk of the Nogai lords split off from Astrakhan to march under Khan Tsetseg. He begins planning heavily for his first exterior conquest and sends scouts and diplomats out in various directions, but gains specific ground with the Rajputs in Western and Northern India.

After years of rebuilding the Polish Eastern Commonwealth under King Sigismund prepares to strike East calling on his Russian Ally to prepare for war.

The rejection of Milan and Florence back into the HRE prompts the two States to jump into a quick and resolute alliance combined raising a force of 40,000 and holding a defensive position in the mountains and also contesting every crossing across the Po River leaving any HRE armies in an extremely disadvantageous position to invade the two states.

There are supposed to be more events by the way, but like... idk where they are. ~Edge

Been a rough couple days, y'all, here's the rest of the Events. -Feud

  • Kingdom of Burgundy: the naval squadron that took part in the Cape Charles Expedition returns home. The port facilities of Neiuw Kaapstad are expanded. In Amsterdam, the navy launches a new warships, called Rosa Mystica, coming in at 154', she's longer than preceeding carracks and with a much-reduced forecastle, she features two rows of gun decks on either sides, allowing her 54 guns. The Rosa Mystica is so unprecedented, a new terms is conceived for her, and her sisters under construction, the Galleon. It's decided to retire one old carrack (30+ years old) for every new galleon commissioned, as the older models are now rendered obsolete. In exploration matters, ships operating the East Indian Ocean make landfall in Malacca, and discover an island chain north of Sumatra (OTL Nicobar and Andamans).
    • OOC: The Andamans and Nicobars are a neutral zone between the Indian Sultanates and the Majapahit Empire. Your ships may pass freely, but do not colonize or attempt to claim any of the islands. ~Guardian.
  • The Gurkani Sultanate: Sultan Suleiman Shah Mirza continued his rule over the Sultanate, with an-Nasir al-Hassan as the Caliph and Quli Khan Zangana as the Grand Vizier. The Gurkani population rose to about 36.5 million with the people flocking to cities like Herat, Isfahan, Gamrun, Qazvin, Bukhara, Tabriz and Iskenderun; primarily due to their strategic position in the spice trade. In regards to religion, the Sultanate promoted Shia Islam, and advocated conversion to the Zaidi sect from other Islamic sects, often engaging in forced conversions. In particular, the Sultanate also promoted Persian emigration to Gilan and Mazadaran with the Gilaki and Mazanderani people being forced to assimilate with them and adopt Persian culture and Farsi. This restrictions also included the persecution of those that freely promoted Gilaki/Mazanderani culture. The military was composed of medium-to-heavy cavalry, composite bow, lance, mace, sword and in some cases, rifles. Heavy cavalrymen wore plated chain mail or metal lamellar armor, with their horses also wearing leather or metal lamellar barding. The infantry was equipped with daggers, swords and pikes to be utilised in close combat against the enemy with camels, and horses being utilized for the transportation of supplies. Artillery units, particularly Bombards, Superguns and Bronze Cannons were primarily be used for defensive purposes whilst lighter cannon units and volley guns were maintained for offensive operations. The artillery/cannon units in essence had been well-assimilated into the army given their effectiveness in battle and massive destructive capability. In some cases, infantry units primarily utilizing only rifles also existed albeit rarely, with the Sepah-e Nejaf being the primary one. Meanwhile, naval bases at Iskenderun, Kerch and Gamrun were expanded and fortified were to ensure the presence of the Gurkani fleet in the Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea and the Persian Gulf respectively, keen on controlling any piracy. The Gurkani Navy developed galleys and carracks to augment the smaller patrol fleets and armed the navy with artillery units. Meanwhile, agriculture and commerce were at the Sultanate's forepoint, with wheat, rice and barley being amongst the largest produced crops. To prevent the Sultanate from ever getting hit by a major famine, the individual Amirs also engaged in the storage of food supplies, which would be utilized in case of famine or otherwise exported. Fishery was promoted as well as it helped in sustaining the fishery villages that were present along the coast, as well as the major port cities of Iskenderun, Basra, Gamrun, Kerch and Baku. Importance was also given on the development of proper roads for the merchants utilizing the trade routes through the Sultanate, with all caravans being armed and protected with a small detachment of guards. Meanwhile, the construction of educational madrassahs continued throughout the Empire, with the Sultan keen on spreading education and knowledge amongst the populace of the Sultanate. The Sultan sought to replicate the Islamic Golden Age that existed during the period of the Abbasids prior to the Mongol Invasion, and accordingly funded the teaching of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, with Algebra, Geometry, Astronomy, Anatomy and Medicine being of prime importance. The Sultanate continued to expand its territories into the Caucasus. The Mu'tazila Movement continued to flourish with science, poetry, arts and philosophy rapidly spreading as fields of extreme importance. By now, the Mu'tazila had built hundreds of thousands of Madrassahs throughout the Sultanate, and continued to build hundreds more, promoting their progressive and reformist idealogy; practically stamping out on extremism. Nonetheless, the Mu'tazila ensured that their policies stayed in line, not keen on espousing any action deemed as heresy. Meanwhile, the Imperial Council increasingly grew wary of Tseteg, particularly following him crowning himself Khagan. In particular, the Nogai breaking off to join Tssteg espoused fears concerning the stability of the Astrakhan Khanate, with units quickly being deployed near Astrakhan to ensure its protection. Simultaneously, the fleet at Baku began conducting vicious 'patrols' to symbolize the naval superiority that the Gurkani possessed.Heavy artillery units were placed all along the nations frontiers to ensure quick defense against surgical strikes/raids. They were further reinforced by lighter artillery units and volley guns in order to conduct offensive operations, all being manned by the Sepah-e-Najaf. Meanwhile, the Amir of Cukorova began to massively expand the opium plantations, with sacks laden with the narcotics regularly being sold to European, Arab and Ottoman merchants operating in the area. As this happened, Shahzada Abbas visited the Swahili Sultanate, meeting with its King and numerous tribal leaders. Purchasing numerous ornaments and jewels as 'souvenirs', Abbas left the state, sailing toward Venad. Once he had arrived at the city, he spent a few months with the local Hindus, even participating in Diwali before sailing on toward Andhra.
    • Swahili Diplomacy: We welcome the delegation and presents many wares.
  • United Crown of Great Iberia
    • With a possible civil war on his hands, the injured, but resolute King of Great Iberia, having prepared for this moment, launches a counterattack on the revolting Portuguese. The huge Royal Armada is immediately mobilised, and the vast majority, being of east Iberian origin, remains loyal to the one true King of Iberia. A fleet of 400 ships are deployed to lay siege to the revolting provinces of Portugal. Troops from all over the United Crown, from Liguria to Morocco, are called to defend the King; an army of 60,000 is raised to challenge that of the Duke of Bragança. We lay siege to the major cities of Portugal, particularly the capital of Lisbon, where support for the usurper is the strongest.
  • France: France reaffirms its alliance with Milan, and seeks an alliance with Sweden. Navy continues expanding.
  • Delhi Sultanate: With all three parties now agreeing to the Orissa Road, we begin our share of construction in Puri; workers are to build the road north into Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, and then southwest toward Rajahmundry in the Bahmani Sultanate. Alarmed by the threat of the Khans in the north, Sultan Harshal orders guards and troops to defend against invaders and unrest throughout India. He calls upon his Muslim brothers in Bahmani, Bengal, Oman, and Gurkani, as well as Tibet, to help defeat the great threat posed to the stability of the whole subcontinent.
    • The Vassals: Himalaya and Ladakh see the mobilizing of troops to repel any barbarian attacks, along with increased guarding in major cities. The gains the Khans are making with the Rajputs are a major point of concern in Marwar and Mewar, who also see troops mobilizing and increased guarding. Sultan Harshal visits Jodhpur to make a speech about defending the stability of all of India from these northerners.
    • Oman Diplomacy: King Suleiman views the landlocked khanate as no immediate threat to Oman, but recognizes its ability to disrupt trade in the Indian Ocean. Still, Oman is unable to provide any direct assistance, being occupied with its own war.
  • Mayapan: Trade continues with the Mexica. Royal engineers continue experimenting making larger fishing vessels. Construction on the new school in the capital continues. Expansion continues along the southern border. Integration of the southern city-states into the League is continued by the High Council. Each new state is expected to supply men to train and serve in the national army. The council seeks to improve commerce and communication between the many settlements of the Yucatan by constructing and maintaining roads between them. Work continues to renovate and update existing buildings and roads, and to create plans for future upkeep and renovations.
  • 'Brandenburg-Luxembourg: 'Upon their return to Berlin, Freidrich and Anne begin their lives together as Freidrich returns to the University as well as begins his tenure as a member of the royal court. His father still ill remains bed ridden and many begin to speculate that should Otto the older pass away the young Freidrich will be made regent for the weak Otto the younger until the time that Freidrich may assume the throne in his own right. Fredrich and Anne have their first child a boy named Freidrich Wilhelm von Brandenburg-Preußen. Otto's court continues to be one that promotes the arts, sciences and military expansion as firearms become more common in the armed forces. Lorraine,Luxembourg and Silesia continue to enjoy an expansion in their mining and metal smithing activities while Silesia, Prussia, and Brandenburg see an expansion of the Manorial system as larger estates are developed. Otto continues to reign in the nobility. decommissioning of old and outdated fortresses continue as the military power of the nobility is reduced in favor of impowering the royal army ith the force standing at 45,000 strong. Otto continues to expand the economic ties of Brandenburg with the interior of the HRE. Otto also begins to build a personal guard made up of the most loyal and best trained troops of Brandenburg's forces. The new guard is named the Lion's guard. Otto begins to distance himself from Austria, while he states he will consider supporting a campaign against the Italian states and while he continues to recognize himself as King of Italy it is not the time for the Empire to go to war. Though in private he sends a letter to the Archduke that should he seek to launch an italian campaign the emperor might support it. Otto declares that he is willing to mediate between Augsburg and Enlgand.
    • Maximilian of Austria-Bavaria continues this correspondance, wondering "how much" support and "under which conditions" would Otto like to "reclaim his rightful fiefdoms".

  • Papal States: The Dean of the College of Cardinals, the Pope's special representative in Iberia for the celebrations, is badly wounded. The Pope, on hearing of this, places the Portuguese rebels under Interdict. Military improves.
    • Maximillian of Austria-Bavaria sends a secret letter to the Pope, requesting land access for his armies in the event of a potential conflict in North Italy, agreeing to "Complete supervision by Papal forces while in the States of the Church" in order to bypass the rivers guarding the border between Veneto and Milan. Maximillian Promises that any military campaigns will be constrained to lands held by rightful Holy Roman vassals, and thus exclude the Papal States and Sicily from these potential conflicts.
  • Sultanate of Bengal: 20 more ships are built, and the fortifications of Chatagon are completed. Sultan Sikandar Shah III's son returns from China and Korea. (MOD RESPONSE on any extra technology Ilyas Shah II brings back) The Sultan also debates with his generals on what position or area they should fortify next. Eventually, a decision is reached, and the Sultan orders the fortification os Saptagram. The fortifications will be completed in ten years. The Sultan also orders the completion of the Bengali section of the Orissa Road. The Sultan also allies with Delhi to defend India against the Khans.
    • Ahom Kingdom: Suhenphaa allies himself with the Delhavi and Bengali to repulse any threat the Khans might pose.
    • Kingdom of Ava: Nothing of note.
    • No extra technology. -scraw
  • Buha: Mosques open up all across the Sultanate. The Sultan announces he will establish the Islamic Emirate of Zaire in what is currently Congo. **We request Swahili's help in establishing Islamic Zaire. Roads are built connecting cities. We raid tribal lands around the nation and kidnap boys to be raised as Jannisary type elite soldiers in the future. We plan to raise a Jannisary type force of 10,000 elites. They shall be armored and serve as the backbone for establishing Islamic Zaire. Our standing army stands at 100,000 men, many equipped with armor from Benin and Swahili. We incorporate some villages into the Sultanate, and because of that, tens of thousands of new citizens join us each year.
    • Swahili Diplomacy: I don't think you have such a high population or army, and Zaire is too far away from us currently.
    • Actually my population was proven to be 5-8 million people. However you may be correct about Zaire.
  • Bahmani Sultanate: Escorted by a few naval vessels, Navid Shah sails with Shahzada Abbas to Andhra and starts to develop a friendship with his Gurkani counterpart. Hearing of Tsetseg's threat to India, some forces are raised in Sindh and Gujarat and sent to assist Delhi. Other areas are ordered to prepare for mobilization, if necessary. Work on the Odissa road continues. Muhammad Shah received Binnya Kyal and Dhammazedi with honors, and is unsure what to think of the boy.
    • Pegu: Binnya Kyal wishes to return home, but upoun hearing of the approach of Tsetseg, Dhammazedi begs his father to let him fight a true adversary. His father agrees, and while Binnya Kyal returns to Pegu, Dhammazedi petitions Muhammad Shah to allow him and a few hundred men to go along with the army gathering in the north. The Sultan reluctantly agrees, though on the request of Binnya Kyal, Dhammazedi is not to go to close to the well-armed enemy, and remain at the rear with the commanders.
    • Maldives: Divehini ships now join their Indian and Burmese counterparts in patrolling the neutral zone.
  • Oman: Oman agrees to sell a copy of the Kitab al-Fawa'id to the Bahmanids. The popularity of Ahmad ibn Mājid's works is unexpected. The book is not a small handbook—it contains roughly 700 pages of text, being essentially an encyclopedia—and producing dozens of copies has been exhaustive to Oman's scribes, lacking technologies such as the printing press. Because of this, King Suleiman employs hundreds of new copyists to take on this task, and they are paid handsomely for their efforts. Fawa'dh fi-Usl Ilm al-Bahrwa-al-Qawaidah (The Benefits of the Principles of Seamanship) also becomes popular for sailors who can afford it. Construction begins on a great library in Muscat, as interest grows in the production and collection of books. Paper and parchment are imported or produced locally, and a large amount of funding is put into the project. The price of Ahmad's works rises as a result of their demand and the cost of labor and materials. In other news, the trading post on the Island of the Moon grows into a larger settlement as many Omanis migrate to East Africa and the surrounding islands. Nine ships equipped with guns are sent to the port of Vohemar to capture it. Vohemar cedes peacefully to Captain Mu'tasim's fleet, and is added to the domains of the Kingdom of Oman. The islands of Dina Arobi and Dina Morgabin are also claimed by Oman, and although no settlements are built, the islands and their surrounding waters are effectively under the control of Oman and its navy. In Arabia, the Bani Khalid tribe and Muqrin ibn Zamil's followers continue to harass overland trade routes along the coast, and still rule over much of the Najd region. Angered by their attacks, King Suleiman orders an invasion of the Bani Khalid. Initial attempts to capture the Bani Khalid strongholds are unsuccessful. Their forts are easily defensible and the terrain is not suited for a military campaign. Muqrin ibn Zamil's army is also equipped with matchlocks. However, in secret, King Suleiman negotiates a temporary alliance with the Shiite Al-Muntafiq tribe. The Al-Muntafiq launch a series of successful raids on the Bani Khalid, capturing much of their northwestern territory and driving them into central Arabia. The Omani armies finally break through from Al-Hasa city and defeat the remainder of the Bani Khalid, bringing the entire eastern Arabian coast under Omani control, as well as much of Najd. Following their surrender, the Bani Khalid lands along the Gurkani border are given to the Al-Muntafiq. 25 ships are built this year.
  • Augsburg: In the year of our Lord fifteen-five economy of Augsburg continues to expand. The powerful Fugger family continues to make its mark on the European economy. The stockpiling of textiles continues for Operation Blue Lily. Business evictions continue. Hans Hohenzollern, now 18, continues his dramatic rise and is now employed as an agent for the Fuggers providing mine security. Price fixing continues based off the large amount of raw materials. Hans Hohenzollern now 20, writes his militaristic thies about the usage of guerrilla warfare, scorched earth technique, and fortified cities to his advantage. He argues that in an ideal defensive war you should strike quickly and swiftly then retreat using the scorched earth technique. He also believes you should leave behind a small amount of soldiers to perform attritional acts (guerrilla warfare). He then encourages the stockpiling of food and settling of well fortified cities and directing opposing army traffic to those cities. Hohenzollern is put in command of the Swabian company, a collection of German mercenaries sponsored by Jakob Fugger. The company is unique because it is comprised of mainly gun armed men. The company is immediately deployed to Italy. Augsburg adopts Roman Common Law. Fugger continues to expand his intelligence network, in order to know his opponents moves before they happen. Jakob Fugger assumes a role as De Facto Lord of Augsburg. Jakob begins expanding his influence over Nuremberg hoping to become De Facto lord. The Welser family officially enters the spice trade sending ships to India. Jakob Fugger offers to switch his alligence to the Patriarch of the Northern Church in exchange for the lands of the Prince Bishopic of Augsburg to be ruled as the Duchy of Lesser Swabia.
    • OOC Guardian: If you wish to participate in the Indian spice trade within Bahmani lands, please sign the Compact of Kolon-Thota.
  • Kingdom of England, Scotland and Ireland: Work on the road from Norwich to connecting with the road from London to Edinburgh is finished and so work on keeping the roads running is mainly done this year.. The King and his family are happy and continue to be healthy although the King mourns the loss of his brother. Anne now of Brandenburg has done well to have a son.
  • Archduke Maximilian von Habsburg-Wittelsbach of Austria-Bavaria and Hungary, while initially enjoying himself at the Iberian Festivites, is wounded and suffers a broken leg. His first reaction is to demand the head of the criminals on a silver platter, but as his tempers cooled, he picks up his things, and declares a total economic Embargo on the so-called Portuguese state, refusing to recognize the new King's legitimacy as monarch. Before he returns to his ships (after his leg is healed), he declares that Austria will support Iberia in the coming war, and leaves an honour guard of a hundred men, stating that "while my main force is needed back in Austria, I am able to spare a few men to hunt down the ciminals responsible for ruining such wonderful festivities." And as that, a complete interdiction of goods and services coming from the self-proclaimed Kingdom of Portugal is imposed. With the Current Happenings in Italy, Maximillian of Austria-Bavaria is forced to weigh his options, and opts for a non-traditional route. While tensions remain high, he continues to beat the war drum, knowing that his time is running out to either declare war, or bring them in diplomatically (perhaps with a few exemptions from Imperial law). He knows he needs to save some face, and will loose a lot of credibility if he does not go to war soon, unless of course otherwise occupied with something else (like another war or anything similar). Maximilian sends more letters to the Duke of Milan and the Doge of Florence, asking if they are willing to meet at a conference as to "ensure their treason is not too far-gone". Along with these rather public letters, Maximillian also send private messengers whom promise certain concessions, and perhaps equivalent privileges as the ones Granted by the Privilegium Maius if they re-affirm thier status as Holy Roman States independentlyMOD RESPONSE PLEASE. Maximillian does not, however, let up on troop training, and sends a letter with the uncovered plans for a french invasion to the Hungarian Diet in an effort to gather their full support in the case of French Intervention. Meanwhile, this military industry is bringing the economies of Austria and Bavaria ever so closer together, amalgamating them into a single whole. A surprising amount of money is also pored into shipbuilding, for reasons as of yet unknown...
    • THe Diet of Hungary is once again called. After presenting the evidence of French conspiracy with the Italian States of Milan and Florence, the members of the Diet, many of whom had lost family to the Italian fighting, are in outrage, especialy viewing the isolence of those people, as such, the Hungarians, instead of pledging a mere two thousand men, pledge a whole half of their forces, with the rest remaining in reserve in case of foreign invasion, to their sovreign's possible mobilizations. Meanwhile, the further buildings of roads and trade connectiosn to the Adriatic via the vassal Serbia ensure that Hungary's economy begins to stabilize. Various traders begin basing themselves in Serbian ports, and they aim to bring new wealth to Hungary, return it to its former glory.
    • Veneto continues to restore its trade network and build more ships, experimenting with new designs for naval ships, adding cannons to a warship in an experimental design. It is very successful.
    • Milan and Florence refuse once again and reiterate their independence. -scraw
  • South Australian Civilization: War continues between Noongar and Ngarrindjeri. Ngarrindjeri was very unprepared for this conflict, and quickly lost ground to the warriors of Noongar. Very soon, Noongar landed canoes on the shore of the Adaleid Valley, and sacked all three cities of Ngarrindjeri, Nukunu and Kaurna, before returning to encamp in Kangaroo Island. When the meeting hall was set on fire in this attack, Allira had her son Kinieger taken into hiding in the wilderness. Eventually, the cleaver warrior Djalunager of Ngarrindjer had a means of dislodging the forces of Noongar. He sneaked in their camp in the dead of night, and hurled a stone at one of the soldier's heads. Thinking that his fellow men were the only ones around, they immediately began fighting among each other, thinking they had been betrayed somehow. Thus, the forces of Ngarrindjeri were able to push back the forces of Noongar out of the city limits.
  • Swahili:  We continue our agriculture policies. The royal guards continue capturing slaves. In the heartland of Mogadishu, the Bank of Mogadishu begin cooperation with landlords to construct hydraulic devices such as canals and irrigation projects to boost food production. Areas interior to Mobassa and Malindi is colonized. We also send out conquistadors to expand northward into more northern Somalia. The Alaabada iyo Ganacsiga ee Badweynta Hindiya (Goods and Trade in the Indian Ocean) is still printed using printing presses obtained from China by our crown prince.

Manuel, the claimant king of Portugal, sends emissaries to the other nations of Europe seeking recognition and financial aid to support his war for independence.

  • Kingdom of Burgundy: exploration of the westerns landmasses continues, and one convoy, lead by the carrack Endeavour, lands on OTL Long Island. They spend some time mapping the coastline of the area before returning home, labeling the area Nieuw Amsterdam on their maps. Back home, the large carrack Sovereign of the Seas is washed onto rocks and is wrecked, putting an end to the copper sheathing experiment. It's decided that copper sheathing, while effective, is too expensive for widespread use, and the engineering notes are put into storage. However, and alternative is suggested in the form of non-structural wood panels that can be quickly attached to ships below the waterline, and replaced when they become ruined by fouling. The problem with the proposal is that each panel will need to be custom manufactured for each vessel, increasing time in refit. Therefore, King Robert orders his naval engineers to design a base set of designs, with fixed measurements, so that compatible panels can be kept on hand for ships coming for refits. The next wave of galleons are built with these standardized designs, as well as the new generation of merchant ships. Meanwhile, construction begins of several arrays of fortresses around Troyes and Brussels, to provide suitable defensive coverage to the area in the event of an invasion.

Meanwhile, the Imperial Council increasingly viewed Tseteg with suspicion, alarmed at his conquests in Mawarannahr and his establishment of relations with the Hindu Rajputs. Taking note of Sultan Harshal's distress in regards to Tseteg and the general threat posed by him, fortifications along the Northern borders were strengthened with heavy artillery units being placed all around strategic locations, particularly to defend Samarkand and Bukhara. Similarly, Sepah-e-Najaf units were deployed, reinforced by cavalry and infantry regiments. Similar actions took place near the border with the Astrakhan Khanate in light of the recent instability faced by the Astrakhan Khagans. About around the sane time, production of opium at Çukoriva reached new heights with ships laden with the narcotic exiting the ports of Iskenderun before heading on toward Europe. Meanwhile, Shahzada Abbas reached Andhra, meeting with its Amir and spending his days with Brahmin clerics in the province. It was during this period that Abbas began practicing yoga and adopted a humble lifestyle. Casting aside pride and arrogance in his quest of knowledge, Abbas then proceeded to sail toward the city of Gaur to visit its University. Along the way, he compiled all that he had witnessed abd encountered during his voyages in his memoirs.
  • United Crown of Great Iberia
    • The King under advice from his military staff and due to fears of aggression from neighbouring nations, chooses to retreat from Portugal and Galicia for the time being. All our forces are ordered to retreat from Portuguese soil, but not before torching everything in their path. Every farm, every town, every speck of dust in the path of the retreating armies is put to the flame, in order to make Portugal's recovery as painful and as slow as possible. Our fleets also retreat, taking down as many Portuguese ships as possible on their way back. While we have retreated, we do not concede defeat, as the King refuses to recognise the legitimacy of the Duke of Bragança. Some of our troops take fortified positions along the border with Portugal-Galicia, while most return to their positions throughout the empire, awaiting further orders. We request that other nations do the same, and refuse to recognise the Duke's government.
    • Development of the West Indies continues as normal.
  • Sultanate of Bengal: 20 more ships are built, as normal, and work continues on the fortification of Saptagram. In other news, the University of Gaur opens a branch in Saptagram.
    • Ahom Kingdom: Nothing of note.
    • Kingdom of Ava: Nothing of note.
  • With Korea no longer obliged to pay tribute to the Ming, it no longer suffers from a chronic drain of precious metals like silver and gold. This enables Korea to increase its budget without putting pressure on the economy. The Kim monarch begins a mass-militarization program of Korea, with emphasis on the royal army. The royal navy is dismantled and ships are used scrap material. A twenty-foot wall on the banks of the Yalu River begins construction (predicted to be completed by a decade), along with five castles meant to fortify against future attacks agains the peninsula. Gunpowder and weapons workshops are built, and the metallurgical industry is augmented with the construction of blast-furnaces. Confucianism begins a process of re-entrenchment into Korean ethics and culture, with Buddhism being suppressed. Confucian temples are built, especially in Gyeonggi and Gyeongsang. Scholarly works and artistry are promoted as "core values", and several academies and universities are built with many of the yangban elite partaking in education.
  • Bulgarian Empire: The Empire continues to expand its economy and its specific road networks through the country. Its main road networks are specifically built up into Wallachia looking to heavily integrate Vlach and its people into the Empire. A good portion of the Vlach people begin to consider themselves Bulgarian. These so called Vlach Bulgarians are shown to have created an interesting fusion of Bulgarian and the Vlach languages but still maintain somewhat a separate identity albeit a slowly fading one. The City of Targoviste is declared the capital of the imeprial province of Vlach, and in terms of integrating the royal families homeland further into the empire, the Bulgarians and Vlach-Bulgars of the province are given their own Legion. The 4th legion is issued under the imperial banner and is based out of Oltenia mostly as a base for defending the Hungarian frontier, and protecting mining operations from extreme issues. The 4th legion remains the same strength consisting of 6000 troops, bringing the Bulgarian standing army at roughly 24,000. With the legionary involvement in development and settlement, the Tsar is forced to bring up the necessity of making it a state issue to arm and equip the troops, however with a relatively major arms industry booming in Bulgaria this proves to be a trivial matter. (more to come later)
  • Oman: Upon receiving the second delivery of wheellock muskets, they are immediately taken to local gunsmiths to make copies of the design. The wheellocks are deemed too costly to be mass-produced for military purposes, but are suitable for the palace guard of Muscat, reserve soldiers, and for the king's personal use. Instead, the matchlock is favored by most Omanis for its low cost, ease of production, and simple firing mechanism. In late spring, Oman begins producing its own matchlocks and wheellocks. The light guns purchased from the Gurkani Sultanate are placed at the forecastle of the largest Omani dhows and used as swivel guns for chasing down pirates or enemy ships. King Suleiman seeks to acquire more cannons to increase Oman's naval power. 21 ships are built this year. The population of Oman rises by the thousands due to the conquest of the Bani Khalid tribe. The two settlements on the Island of the Moon are combined to form the colony of Vohemar, which is expanded to encompass all minor settlements along the northeastern tip of the island. New settlers arrive from Oman this year, and soldiers are stationed at Port Vohemar to enforce Omani rule in the colony. Aatif Saab is appointed governor of the colony. Vohemar becomes quite involved in the Swahili slave trade, and slaves are transported to the colony to work in agriculture. Expansion continues south along the rivers to the eastern bay, where a settlement is built. With the forest being too thick for walking, most settlers travel by boat along the river or by ship to and from Port Vohemar. In the inland areas, smaller settlements spring up between the rivers as stopover points for slave traders venturing down the coast. Conflict soon arises with the native Betsimisaraka people, and further southern expansion is halted. In Arabia, the Nashati faction gains more support and rallies several tribes to its cause. Nashat declares himself the Imam of Oman and encourages the tribes to renounce their vassalage to King Suleiman. Civil war erupts in in the interior, mainly in the Bahla region. With the support of the western tribes, the rebellion is swiftly crushed, and Nashat flees to Masirah Island.
  • Kingdom of England, Scotland and Ireland: We continue to be relatively stable, the King realises Admiral Alkston isn't returning from his voyage to find the Northwest passage and is sad and contemplates sending out an expedition later on but not this year. The King meanwhile orders another ten ships to be built bringing up the fleet to around 250 ships though some are outdated and so work to keep them in date is also done.
  • Brandenburg-Luxembourg: Otto's court continues to be one that promotes the arts, sciences and military expansion as firearms become more common in the armed forces. Lorraine, Luxembourg and Silesia continue to enjoy an expansion in their mining and metal smithing activities while Silesia, Prussia, and Brandenburg see an expansion of the Manorial system as larger estates are developed. Otto continues to reign in the nobility. Cultural and Theological debates begin to arise again particularly given the reeergence of Germanic literature from the Germanic Heroic Age and the early days of German Christianity. With the already widespread conversion to the Northern Reformed Rite this helps in the slow but steady development of literature, art ,and philosophy in the domains of the Emperor. Dissemination of these new works also begins throughout the trade routes which Brandenburgian merchants and mercs frequent. Decommissioning of old and outdated fortresses continue as the military power of the nobility is reduced in favor of impowering the royal army ith the force standing at 45,000 strong in times of need while standing at 34,000 in peace times. Otto declares that he is willing to mediate between Augsburg and England. Otto considers The requests of Augsburg, but requests that should this occur that the Fugger family refrain from endulging in policies that would otherwise corrupt the institutions of the church and fully embrace Hussite ideals.
  • Bahmani Sultanate: Ten warships are built this year. Muhammad Shah finds the Kitab al-Fawa'id useful, but decides that a translation must be made, as most cannot read Arabic. Deccani, Urdu, and Farsi are all considered, but as very few speak Farsi, and printing in Urdu will allow sale to Delhi, it is chosen. Work begins on printing some more copies. The army sent to Delhi is mostly recalled, but preparations are in place to send another if need be. Navid Shah gives his farewells to Shahzada Abbas on good terms, but is concerned about how his counterpart seems pro-Hindu.
    • Pegu: Dhammazedi prepares to return from the northern frontier, but wanting action, doesn't do so just yet.
    • Maldives: Nothing of note.
News of white devils reaches the Emperor, who sends emissaries to meet them. IBERIA, please respond.
    • Iberian Diplomacy: One of the Associate Directors of the West Indies Company, Enrico Martinez, on behalf of His Majesty the King, meets with the Maya emissaries in Havana, and presents the Mayan People with a multitude of European gifts, such as fine Iberian wines and an Iberian-made blade, the latter of which is to be gifted to their Emperor upon the emissaries' return to their lands. We invite further conversation between Mayapan and the United Crown.
  • Austrio-Bavarian ships begin to be seen more and more often on the west coast of Northern Italy, running "Anti-Piracy" patrols, and "naval exercises". THey sometimes, however, interfere with trade going to and from the Italian States, often "encouraging" trading vessels, often at the barrel of their guns, to reverse course and head for Sicilian or papal lands. Maximillian makes a public speech calling the Duke of Milan a "heretical traitor no longer fit for the titles of Nobility". He sends a letter to the pope, requesting the excommunication of the Milanian Duke. Meanwhile, the economies of Bavaria and Austria integrate even further, with wartime expenses fatoring into the things. Meanwhile, further proffessionalization of the Archducal guards is underway, with Maximillian personaly overseeing the perparations. Maximillian, after making his rounds cites "personal recovery from last year's events and further preparation and training of the Guards" as reasons for delaying a war in Italy, which he pledges will happen by the closing of the decade. Maximillian, this year, re-iterates the trade embargo on the "so-called Kingdom of Portugal", declaring support for the Iberian posession of Portugal.
  • Papal States: The so-called "King" of Portugal is not recognised by the Pope, and the rebels remain under interdict for their assault on the Dean of the College of Cardinals, who was acting as personal representative of His Holiness. The Pope responds to Austria, saying that excommunication is not a political toy to be thrown around, adding that he will excommunicate the Duke of Milan is proof is brought which shows that he is, in fact, a "heretical traitor". Also, the request for military access cannot be granted at this time. Augsburg is informed that it is within its rights to convert the County to the Northern Reformed Rite, but points out that doing so does not "switch allegience" from the Pope to the Primate, since the Primate and the Pope are in full communion, the former indeed being a Cardinal of the Church. In other news, Ignazio d'Iazzo and his initial group are ordained as secular priests by the Archbishop of Bologna.
  • Augsburg: In the year of our Lord fifteen-eleven economy of Augsburg continues to expand. The powerful Fugger family continues to make its mark on the European economy. The stockpiling of textiles continues for Operation Blue Lily. Business evictions continue. Sponsorship of artists by patriarchal families continues. Encouragement of artisans continues. The Fugger sponsorship of the rifle industry continues. Price fixing continues based off the large amount of raw materials. Hans Hohenzollern continues his rise as a student of military. Jakob Fugger continues expanding his large presence in Nuremberg hoping to become De Facto Lord. After hearing of the large tariffs imposed on the merchants by the Bahmani Sultan the Welsers adjust and decide to base their operations in the spice trade out of Malacca. In Malacca the Welsers hear of the fabled spice islands and begin planning an expedition for exploration.
We order shipyards to build ten more ships with more cannons as technology improves.

King Manuel of Portugal proclaims that Iberia's inaction and withdrawal is a recognition of his sovereignty as king of the independent Portugal. He continues to seek allies on the continent.

Tsetseg Khan continues to ride around all over the place getting support from people, especially in the frontiers of China and the Astrakhan.

  • The Gurkani Sultanate: Sultan Tahmasp Shah Mirza began his rule over the Sultanate, with an-Nasir al-Hassan as the Caliph and Fath Ali Khan as the Grand Vizier. The Gurkani population rose to about 36.9 million with the people flocking to cities like Herat, Isfahan, Gamrun, Qazvin, Bukhara, Tabriz and Iskenderun; primarily due to their strategic position in the spice trade. By now, the Mu'tazila had built hundreds of thousands of Madrassahs throughout the Sultanate, and continued to build hundreds more, promoting their progressive and reformist ideas; spreading education. Meanwhile, the Sepah-e-Najaf continued to remain on high alert to repulse any incursion by Tseteg and his Horde. Similarly, efforts were taken to ensure the protection of the Astrakhan against the Eastern menace. About around the same time, Suleiman visited the Northern city of Mashhad to observe the situation at the border. In a tragic incident however, he was stabbed thrice by a Turkmen assassin whilst the Sultan led the morning prayers. Despite being severely injured, the Sultan survived albeit being left in a critical position. The Turkmen was captured and skinned alive before being impaled along with members of his family. The Sultan retreated to Isfahan where he designated Tahmasp as his successor and died a week later. In accordance to Suleimans will, a public funeral was held at Isfahan with the body later being buried at the Gur e Amir. Later, a coronation ceremony was held and Tahmasp Shah Mirza ascended the throne. Following his ascension, one of the first decisions made by Tahmasp included the dismissal of Quli Khan Zangana and being replaced by a Persian Mu'tazila, Fath Ali Khan. Meanwhile, mass production of opium continued at Çukorova, supervised directly by Ibrahim Hadad. Along the same time, Shahzada Abbas reached the University of Gaur in Bengal. Upon arriving at the institution, Abbas met with numerous scholars, keen on learning about the standard of education at the University and studying the books and manuscripts present at its library. Months later, Abbas travelled to the newly established acedemy at Saptagram, visiting Pandua along the way, having the exact same intention. In essence, Abbas spent almost the entire year reading the contents of the Books at the two institutions, and learning a lot about the history of Bengal along the way. In fact, by now, Abbas had become fluent in Tamil and Bengali. Once Abbas had finally completed his study, he departed from Bengal, sailing through the Straits of Malacca and visiting various monasteries in Khmer and Majapahit along the way. Abbas was accompanied by a few of his Mutazila companions as well who just like him jotted down all their experiences during the voyage.
  • The Caliphate continues to support the ancient Islamic school of Mu'tazila, once popular throughout the Islamic world during the earlier days of the Abbasid Caliphate. This school of Islam preaches rational thought and has differing thoughts to the Qu'ran than traditional explinations. Jews and Christians alike are accepted throughout the Caliphate as People of the Book, and are encouraged to become scholars just as Muslims are. The Caliphate reforms taxing, returning to the ancient way. Zakat, the 2.5% tax only Muslims pay, are spent directly to charity. This tax provides a number of services such as shelter, food, water, and other services to devout Muslims who are undertaking the Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca. In our capital, Cairo, it provides charity services to the needy, widows, and orphans. The second tax, the Jizya is a tax paid by non-Muslims used to sustain the Caliphate itself, and all of its structures. It excludes the poor, women, the elderly, and children. In the deserts of Egypt, the Caliphate attempts to colonize oasis such as Faiyum or Siwa. In the Arabian peninsula, we do the same, incorporating the Bedouin tribes of the vast Arabians deserts into the Caliphates as faithful followers of the Caliph. In addition to this, the Caliph encourages Muslims in Europe to escape the intolerant rulers present there, and to settle in the vast, safe, large cities of the Caliphate instead. The Caliph also continues to implement a standing military: in return for joining the armies of the Caliph, an individual will gain money, land, place in society, and honor bestowed upon them. These men are stationed on the corners of the Caliphate, on the border with Iberian-controlled lands in the Meghreb, below Nubia, we station troops on the border with Ethiopia, and in the east, we station troops on our border with the heretic Gurkani, albeit much less. We finally phase out the centuries-old practice of Iqta in the Caliphate, as the old order has been restored.
  • United Crown of Great Iberia
    • We refuse to acknowledge Portugal's and Galicia's independence, insisting that the so-called Portuguese government's actions are completely illegal, and that the territory they claim to possess remains a Core Kingdom of the Crown Union of Portugal and the Algarves. Our troops continue to man the borders between Castile and Portugal, awaiting further orders. Although the war has not technically ended, a tense de facto ceasefire has begun. In the meantime, we continue to develop our colonies in the West Indies, and we continue to make contact with Mayapan and Mexica. The King, realising Augsburg's influential status in the financial sector, offers to sell to Augsburg some of Iberia's state debt in return for Augsburg's refusal to deal with the rebelling Portugal.
    • Augsburg Dip: The Fuggers agree.
  • Cologne: Back in 1508, Archbishop Rhoderich caught a terrible illness of the lung that had him bedridden for years on end, making Abbess Meina very busy running both Cologne and Essen Abbey as the de facto second-in-charge at Rhoderich's request. Thus, only the same things have continued to happen in Cologne – the population has continued to increase, though has dropped off because the Archbishop was unable to give pastoral letters, and the competition from nobles took on a life of its own separate from the Archbishop. The centralised road system through Cologne, Kolschberg and Essen is completed, and the system is extended this year into Westphalen, making it only just across the border by year’s end. At the end of the year, Rhoderich recovers when a worshipper brings a gift of a particular medicine from far away that heals him. He is shaken and weak, but he works on his personal health every day. He is quickly becoming an inspiration for all the sick and wounded.
    • Essen: Abbess Meina has been busy with general affairs in Cologne, so in Essen her prioress continues Meina’s personal daily walks from the far side of Essen to the Abbey itself to pray at the Tomb of St Adelphina. However, when Abbess Meina returns to Essen at the end of the year, there is a sudden increase in people making the daily pilgrimage, just to see the embattled Meina and learn from her faith. Meanwhile, canonesses from years past return to the University of Essen with knowledge of humanism and begin to integrate these ideals alongside Catholicism into the relevant courses at the university.
The Alaabada iyo Ganacsiga ee Badweynta Hindiya (Goods and Trade in the Indian Ocean) is continuously printed using printing presses obtained from China by our crown prince. Our flagship, the Umar, is constructed with 20 cannons and 40 swivel guns. (Not ASB, there was a British ship at the same period with twice the armaments https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Henry_Grace_%C3%A0_Dieu)
    • The comparison doesn't really work since Swahili isn't a European nation that is experiencing the Renaissance and is constantly developing its fleet to ensure a technological advantage and maintain naval superiority. Anyways, I was wondering, where exactly did you obtain the cannons and swivel guns from?
    • OOC: Sorry, but "the British did it too" isn't a valid excuse for anything. Your Swahili Sultanate emulates the OTL Kilwa Sultanate, which was mainly a trading power, and would have no need for huge warships. Cutting holes into the side of your ship to fit cannons was a European concept (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naval_artillery#Age_of_Sail), and Middle Eastern/East African nations wouldn't have thought of it without direct contact with Europe (see OTL Portugal in the 1500s) or without abandoning their long history of dhow-building and Indian Ocean trade. Mounting swivel guns on the forecastle or aftcastle was a much more common setup for Indian Ocean dhows. England is on the other side of the world from you - technology does not spread evenly. Also, how did you obtain a printing press from China? The printing press was invented in Europe (I think Cologne in this timeline). I don't think it has even spread to China yet. Feud crossed out your last post about a printing press in 1509. General534 (talk) 17:17, November 8th, 2016 (UTC)
    • I agree with the judgment here, the concept is non-existent to you right now -Feud
  • Kingdom of England, Scotland and Ireland: The King commissions a new expedition to be led by a Captain Thomas Robes who served under Admiral Alkston in the first of his two expeditions. He takes five ships, one carrack called the Vengeance supported by four caravels Poleaxe, Bludgeon, Maul and Warhammer. The four ships plan to sail up the great river (St Lawrence River) and try to find a way around or use canoes if necessary to bypass the rapids which are constructed in England and all the sailors are trained with them. The fleet set off in late March crossing the seas. While the Vengeance escorted them into the mouth of the river (Quebec city) where they visit the village they raided last time they passed through, while it was many years ago the natives avoid them and are armed so the Vengeance anchors away from the village and Captain Robes transfers his command to the Bludgeon and takes his four remaining ships with eight canoes attached to them farther down the river until they stop where the last expedition in this region halted. Him and his men knowing some of the language obtained from the captives they took on the last expedition communicate with the locals in Hochelega and agree that the river does continue on past the rapids and after giving of gifts the locals show 48 men, with six men to canoe how to walk around the rapids by sailing up the river until they reach the rapids then getting out and carrying their canoes until they get past them. They eventually pass behind the Hochelega island and continue up the river (Ottawa River) on their canoes making slow progress until the river freezes over in early November and they are halted as a tribute flows in (Ottawa city) and they are halted. The expedition's destruction is threatened by scurvy but their knowledge of the Arbor Vitage which they know from natives and is high in vitamn C allows them to survive (Yes this was known by the natives). After surviving a harsh winter in which half of the group dies they set off home. Meanwhile in England Captain Robes still hasn't returned but this is not surprising as he planned to cut through and find the passage to Asia. They focus on keeping a strong up to date navy and another 150 Arqebus are bought.
  • Oman: King Suleiman embarks with the Omani trade fleet on a diplomatic mission to the Indian Ocean to expand his knowledge of the world. The fleet first lands at Beypore in the Bahmani Sultanate, where Suleiman witnesses the process of Bahmani shipbuilding. Next, he visits the Maldives, the people of which Suleiman remarks as "warm and hospitable". Suleiman's fleet then visits Sarandīb (Sri Lanka), where small elephants are captured to be brought back to Oman. The fleet finally touches at the Delhi Sultanate, before Suleiman returns to Oman with three ships. Led by Captain Taimur, the rest of the fleet continues its journey, bringing gifts to Delhi and the Bengal Sultanate, and visiting Pegu, the Khmer Empire, and the Majapahit Empire. Captain Taimur wishes to establish friendly trade relations with the Khmer and Majapahit on behalf of Oman (Mod Response). Meanwhile, the Vohemar colony continues its growth, aided by the arrival of more settlers from the mainland. Trade with the Swahili Sultanate now often takes place on the Island of the Moon, with Omanis transporting goods downriver to the Swahili trading posts, and transporting slaves upriver to Vohemar. Special boats are constructed for this purpose, taken from the designs of the natives. In Arabia, the Najd region is further developed, particularly the city of Hajr (Riyadh). In Muscat, a royal district is created in the upper areas of the city. Houses in this district are decorated with fine tapestries and intricate designs to reflect Oman's wealth. Plans are made to expand the "palace", which is really a small government building. Work also begins on expanding the harbor to accommodate more ships, and a small outpost is built on a rock overlooking the harbor. Overall, infrastructure throughout Oman is upgraded, and new houses are built in major cities. Rice also becomes a staple food in Oman, being grown locally and added to numerous traditional dishes.
    • Majapahit and Khmer agree to better trade relations. -scraw
  • Bahmani Sultanate: Muhammad Shah dies and is replaced by his son, Nehal Shah. Work on the Orissa road continues. Nehal Shah also continues to work on the navy, expanding it by 15 vessels. The remaining troops in Delhi are recalled, but preparations are made if a defense against Tsetseg proves necassary. Nehal Shah promises that he will follow the policies of his father toward all nations. He also promises the nobility that no more 'common merchants' will be elevated, though the Raza's position stands. (OOC: I've been getting my ruler's sons confused, so for all future purposes: Nehal is the older, born in 1463, and his younger brother Navid, the guy who I've been using as ambassador of everything for the past couple decades, is the younger, born in 1464.)
    • Pegu: The Omani merchant fleet is welcomed. Binnya Kyal uses this as an example of how Pegu benefits from Bahmani tutelage. Dhammazedi remains in Bahmani lands.
    • Maldives: Sultan Yusuf II welcomes the visiting Omanis.
  • The Kingdom of France conintues its naval expanison, as part of the Pivot to the Exterior. In Secret, We seek an alliance with the new Kingdom of Portugal. (Mod Response Needed)
    • Portugal is happy for any friend. ~Cal
  • Papal States: The Portuguese rebels remain under interdict. Pope Leo brings in some master builders to look at the architect's desings for the renovations of St Peter's.
  • Sultanate of Bengal: 20 ships are built this year and work continues on the fortifications of Saptagram. Work also continues on the Orissa Road. In other news, the Sultan orders the army to be wary of any attack of Tsetseg.
    • Ahom Kingdom: Nothing of note.
    • Kingdom of Ava: Nothing of note.
  • Chinese Empire: Islam continues to spread. The colonies continue to grow. The military increases its presence on the frontier, worrisome that Khan may grow powerful in the region due to some growing support. We send an envoy to him, stating that if he remains out of Chinese territory, and does not encourage his cause within the Empire, that China will not confront his actions outside of Chinese borders.
  • Norway-Oldenburg: Naval upgrades continue. We begin to fund the first exploration through the Sahel region in Africa. Haakon Jorgensen commands a fleet of 20 Burgundian caravels (or whatever the ship's nameis) eventually reaching the lands of Benin and Mali. The journey is long and hard with members of the crew contracting scurvy and dying. The crew lands in the Lands of Mali and Benin obtaining goods from both of them and make their way back by Winter albeit with casualties. The arrival of Gold Oil, and other valuable intrigues the Norwegian Royal Court. Due to the difficulty of obtaining (Lisbon's current status and the war between mali and benin). The value of finding a trade route between the two intrigue merchants. From denmark arquebus is discovered. Weapon makers in Trondelag begin to manufacture based upon the designs. Specifically increasing in farming of the Kingdom of the Isles. With the news of the journeys to the New world many nobles and merchants and scholars are intrigued by this. Leading to the royal funding of some expeditions and preparations believed to set out in the 1430s. Economic development throughout the nation continues with trade being further expanded. Roads are built throughout oldenburg to give a greater development to the country. We send a betrothal offer to Burgundy or Bradenburg for a betrothal of the Crown Prince christian to a princess of one of the countries
  • South Australian Civilization: While recovering from the narrow war with Noongar, the city of Ngarrindjeri is struck with the Black Fever, killing thousands of villagers. Bakan Djalu I himself succumbs to this disease, and rule of the city is passed to his son, Djalu II. In Nukunu, Bakan Waku begins solidifying more central culture in his city. He comissions a great genius in enginnering, Mawukura, to design great buildings and murals in his honor [think early dynastic Egypt style]. Waku also begins drafting a standard of laws to set his city apart from barbarian outsiders [oral law like the Vikings or Mycaenean Greece].
  • Augsburg: Same stuff as last year. DONALD J TRUMP becomes mayor of Augsburg.

1513[]

Khan Tsetseg begins openly planning an invasion of India marshalling a massive force of nearly 140,000. Unexpectedly however his rather powerful and professional relationship with the Rajputs in India has put him on an open pathway into Northern India.

The King of Portugal is noted to be proficient at drilling his army and keeping it active, He even maintains a relatively impressive professional army of 15,000 being directly drawn from the nobles and professional fighters of portugal. This sets Portugals military force at roughly 45,000 led by Great General King Manuel of Portugal.

Venice suffers increasing unrest and violence until finally a collection of the more influential Venetian nobles lock down Venice Proper convening a council discuss their future in Italy and their lack of a Future under Austria. Their relatively strong navy remains loyal to the major involved families making a landing or movement to venice impossible.

The Rajputs in India begins to conduct violence against their muslim overlords, specifically as their newgound alliance with Tsetsegs Khanate has emboldened them.

  • The Gurkani Sultanate: Sultan Tahmasp Shah Mirza continued his rule over the Sultanate, with an-Nasir al-Hassan as the Caliph and Fath Ali Khan as the Grand Vizier. The Gurkani population rose to about 37 million with the people flocking to cities like Herat, Isfahan, Gamrun, Qazvin, Bukhara, Tabriz and Iskenderun; primarily due to their strategic position in the spice trade. Funding for the Mu'tazila skyrocketed with Tahmasp having taken the throne. Being a member of the Mu'tazila community himself, the Sultan ensured that the movement continued to flourish, financing the development of hundreds of Madrassahs. In particular, the Sultan funded the establishment of Samarkand's Grand Library, keen on having an institite that would rival the Library at Alexandria. Despite overall aiming to promote science and rational thought, the Movement had by now effectively split into two Schools of Thought. One favoured the usage of printing press, considering it to be much faster and that it was more casual to simply utilize it for the copying, printing and publication of books. In contrast, the other School favoured hand-written books, considering calligraphy to not only be more elegant and graceful but that it was something native to the land in comparison to printing press being foreign, having been introduced from Trebizond. Nonetheless, despite their differences, both Schools moved on side by side, engaging in a 'friendly' rivalry. Meanwhile, to please the Mu'tazila and aid the intellectuals in subjects related to Autonomy and Biology, the Imperial Council passed an edict that granted the Mu'tazila the right to practice vivisection on a selected quota of prisoners. These assignments ranged from simply opening up corpses to observe internal organs to those in which live humans were experimented upon. Along the same time, the Sepah-e-Najaf began launching raids and attacks upon Turkmens still living in the Sultanate. Most had already left the Sultanate when the Turkmen state had broken away, and the Sultan planned on eliminating all those that had remained. As such, a policy of slaughtering and expelling the Turkmens was adopted to ensure their removal. This policy was further supported by Tajiks who resided in the area who essentially aided in the authorities in identifying and slaughtering the Turkmens with the intent of forcing them to return to their homeland. As this happened, the forces deployed at the border were further reinforced to ensure security. Simultaneously, mass production of opium continued at Çukorova, supervised directly by Ibrahim Hadad. Meanwhile, Abbas finally arrived at China following an exceptionally long voyage. He first docked at Nanjing and proceeded to meet with Ming authorities before taking a stroll through the city. Later, Abbas sailed toward Tianjin and visited Beijing as well. During his visit to the three cities, Abbas made sure to visit all of the important locations including educational institutions. In particular, he felt impressed with the spread of Islam along the coastal regions. Abbas later spent the rest of the year in China, left in awe by the land that his ancestors once ruled. It was only now that he understood why his Great Great Great Grandfather, Timur aspired to conquer China, a question that Abbas had pondered over for ages.
  • Sultanate of Bengal: 20 more ships are built this year and work continues on the Orissa Road and the fortifications of Saptagram. The Sultan orders the mobilization of 10,000 men to be moved into Delhi to combat the threat posed by Khan Tsetseg.
    • Ahom Kingdom: Nothing of note.
    • Kingdom of Ava: Nothing of note.
  • Korea continues its mass-militarization program now referred to as the Songun policy (先軍政治; seongun jeongchi), seeking to orient the country's economy to its military and building up its army at the expense of the navy. Weaponry (especially gunpowder weapons such as hwacha, fireworks, and guns) and gunpowder is produced, with workshops specializing in those industries being built. The metallurgical industry is augmented with the construction of blast-furnaces, with the the metals processed being used to reinforce weaponry to make them last longer and to make them more efficient. Royal levies are trained in the most modern techniques, some of which influenced by the content of the Art of War. The royal navy is downsized and used as a maritime protection force, with ships being used as scrap material. The twenty-foot wall on the banks of the Yalu river continues construction, with five castles being built again, bringing the total number of castles straddling the banks of the Yalu to ten. Confucianism begins a process of re-entrenchment into Korean ethics and culture, as evident by the spread of Confucian missionaries and temples across the country. Buddhist activities are suppressed but its followers are not persecuted. Confucian values are promoted, and several academies and universities are built with many of the yangban elite partaking in education.
  • United Crown of Great Iberia
    • We begin to become majorly concerned over a possible reunification of Italy, and watch for Venice's moves closely, though we take no military action as of yet, as our main priority still lies with Portugal. We are also alarmed by the efficiency with which the usurper Manuel has managed to create a decently-sized armed force. Although we outnumber them by more than a factor of two, the speed with which the army was organised is an indication of Manuel's military talents, and the King privately admires Manuel's tenacity and prowess in the face of otherwise totally superior power. However, he still hopes for a reunification of the Iberian peninsula under his rightful rule, as does all of Iberia.
    • The development of the West Indies continues as normal.
  • Delhi Sultanate: Military recruitment increases, and troops are mobilised into Delhi. Guarding continues. Rajputs found causing unrest are arrested and are given the five options Gunterists are usually given. Sultan Harshal declares to the rebels that he is willing to use military force to secure the stability of India. We call upon our Muslim brothers in Bahmani, Bengal, Gurkani, and Oman to help us humble the barbarians of the north; we also ask for intervention from Tibet (MOD RESPONSE REQUIRED), convincing them that the Khans are a looming threat to Tibet. Meanwhile, attackers are subdued during an attempted assault on construction of the Orissa Road in Bhubaneswar.

  • Brandenburg-Luxembourg: Otto's court continues to be one that promotes tyhe arts, sciences and military expansion as firearms become more common in the armed forces. Decommissioning of old and outdated fortresses continue as the military power of the nobility is reduced in favor of impowering the royal army ith the force standing at 45,000 strong in times of need while stading at 34,000 in peace times. Otto continues to expand the economic ties of Brandenburg with the interior of the HRE. Otto also begins to build a personla guard made up of the most loyal and best trained troops of Brandenburg's forces. Otto declares that he is willing to mediate between Augsburg and England. Otto considers The requests of Augsburg, but requests that should this occur that the Fugger family refrain from endulging in policies that would otherwise corrupt the institutions of the church and fully embrace hussite ideals.
  • Kingdom of England, Scotland and Ireland: With the end of winter Captain Robes and his men pull back having lost half their number and without much event reach their ships which had managed to survive the scurvy and the ice as well. Then they head off back to England where they return home. Captain Robes is rewarded by the King while the inability to find a short route to Asia is frustrating many in England. Captain Robes reports of rumours of a Kingdom gold and silver in the land he discovered as told by the natives. This piques the interests of many in England and talk about actually exploring the continent rather than trying to find the route to Asia.
  • Bahmani Sultanate: Kunwar Menon, famed for defeating the Lankan rebels, is sent forth with an army of 30,000 to assist Delhi. A 'flying column' of 10,000 is also sent, under the command of Nehal Shah himself, while Navid Shah manages the Sultanate in his absence. Another 10,000 are sent to guard the border with the Rajput states. Meanwhile, some navy officers start to turn to revanchism against Majapahit, but they are mostly ignored due to the crisis in the north. A young engineer, Soren Vivekenada, suggests that more roads, like the one in Odissa, must be built between the Sultanates to facilitate military movement. Navid Shah finds this man interesting.
    • Pegu: Dhammazedi gleefully attaches himself to the flying column.
    • Maldives: Nothing of note.
  • Maximillian of Austria-Bavaria, seeing the unrest in Veneto and the Patricians airing certain grievances, decides that a personal touch is needed. He recognizes that both Venice and Austria-Bavaria need to support one another, to grow in symbiosis, and as such he announces a personal visit to venice to hammer out certain details, and alleviate the grievances. "While my words of encouragement, my insistnaces that there will be no interferance in the trading partices of the Venetians by the Habsburgs, for we were not and have never been traders, that the laws and customs of venice shall be abided by upon our hope of salvation, we nonetheless want to make these promises more than words", Maximillian writes in a letter to the Venetians. One of the bigger points is giving Venice its own "privilegium maius", noting that while the sovreigns of Venice, the Dukes of Veneto, being Habsburgs already posess such privilegia in all their lands, it is nonetheless better "for both redundancy and indesputable clarity for both me, and to guard against overzealous successors" that venice be granted its own as a member of the Holy Roman Empire (which Maximillian insists presents lucrative trade oportunities best not left to the Venetians' rivals in Augsburg, who might take their share if Venice leaves the HRE). Dealing with these internal matters further delays the wars Maximillian had planned, however it does present a unique oportunity to ramp up his support amongst his people as a reconciliator and wise ruler, to let that reputation travel far and wide.
  • Oman: This year, the Omani fleet reaches China, visiting the cities of Guangzhou, Quanzhou, Shanghai, Nanjing, and Beijing, as well as the Japanese side of Taiwan. The Omanis offer gifts such as spices, pottery, pearls, frankincense, ivory, gold, and exotic animals to the Chinese emperor. On the return voyage, the fleet again visits the Khmer, the Majapahit, the Delhi Sultanate, the Bahmani Sultanate, and the Maldives. Captain Taimur learns of the advancing khanate's armies during this, and hurries his return to Oman. 26 ships are built this year. The Vohemar colony expands by capturing a native settlement. In Arabia, the uncompleted road at Al-Hasa now forks into dozens of camel trails leading to the Gurkani Sultanate and bolstering overland trade. Distressed by the calls of his allies, King Suleiman agrees to send a small army of musketeers and infantry to join the Delhavi and Bahmanid armies. The army numbers no more than 1400. Oman also pledges its naval support if its allies are invaded.
The Alaabada iyo Ganacsiga ee Badweynta Hindiya (Goods and Trade in the Indian Ocean) is still printed. We again stress to Oman that our roots are from the Sultanate of Mogadishu, not the Kilwa Sultanate. We construct a new line of ships with 40 swivel cannons. With Oman colonizing Madagascar, we decide to also begin efforts of solidifying the Swahili city states on the island by encouraging those who reside there to expand trading posts and construct farms and plantations, as well as declaring Sultanate rule in those cities.

  • The Gurkani Sultanate: Sultan Tahmasp Shah Mirza continued his rule over the Sultanate, with an-Nasir al-Hassan as the Caliph and Fath Ali Khan as the Grand Vizier. Funding for the Mu'tazila continue to rise as Tahmasp viewed the empowerment of the Movement as essential to the nations growth. As such, the Sultan directly financed the construction of thousands of Madrassahs annually. By now, the Grand Library of Samarkand had also been established. Simultanelusly as this occurred, thousands of prisoners were vivisected annually by eager and excited Mu'tazila, each keen on observing a humans internal organs. Meanwhile, the slaughter and expulsion of Turkmen continued on large scale. Most of the Turkmen concentrated in the Merv astan were effectively forced to flee their homes while hundreds more were slaughtered. Around the same time, the Sepah-e-Najaf had also begun launching attacks upon the Sultanates tiny Jafari and Ismaili minority, expelling any remaining group to India, an action that had been taken by Sultan Zeeshan as well. Meanwhile, Abbas finly departed from China and sailed on toward Korea. Having been told of the hermit kingdom by many during his time in China, Abbas had become quite curious and was as such keen on visiting the Korea. Immediately after arriving at Busan following the departure from Tianjin, Abbas set out to visit Seoul where he later met with the Korean monarch and presented him with gifts
  • Oman: Numair bin Suleiman celebrates his eighth birthday. The Great Library of Muscat is completed this year. The architect, Junaid Guler, is congratulated for his work. Collections of Omani poetry and books are housed here, as well as the works of Ahmad ibn Mājid. It is also home to dozens of Omani scribes. Construction continues on the Palace of Muscat and expanding the Muscat harbor. 25 ships are built this year. The army of 1400 musketeers arrives in India, and joins Kunwar Menon's Bahmanid army.
    • Vohemar: With settlements on the island growing substantially since 1506, the Vohemar Colony expands as new areas are explored. Land from Antongil Bay to the northernmost tip of the island is colonized, and then southwest along the western coast to Nosy Be. Slave trade with the Swahilis continues, and new settlements and trading posts are built along the river routes. Governor Aatif attempts to peacefully integrate the natives into the colony, but fighting often breaks out along the border. Avoiding the southern jungles, Vohemar focuses its expansion along the coast, where conditions are more tolerable for settlers. Vohemar claims all land north of the fourth and fifth rivers (Sofia River), including any trading posts or settlements already present. This territory is protected by nine ships from the mainland. An envoy is sent to the Swahili Sultanate to notify them of Oman's claim. More farms spring up throughout the colony. Slaves are put to work producing vanilla, a highly valued spice. Rice is also introduced from the mainland. Construction begins on a fort at Port Vohemar.
  • Korea continues its militarist Songun policy (先軍政治; seongun jeongchi), with the economy restructured to accommodate a strong military. Weaponry (especially gunpowder weapons such as hwacha, fireworks, and guns) and gunpowder is produced, with said sectors being promoted by government funds, meanwhile Korean metallurgy is augmented with the construction of blast-furnaces. The produced steel is used to reinforce weaponry to make them last longer and to make them more efficient. Royal levies are trained in the most modern techniques, and the standing army increases to thirty thousands. The twenty-foot wall on the banks of the Yalu river continues construction, with an additional three castles being built, bringing the total number of castles straddling the banks of the Yalu to thirteen. Confucianism begins a process of re-entrenchment into Korean ethics and culture. Social strata is further imposed, and to ensure loyalty among the yangban elite, restrictions placed on them during the reign of Gunyeo are abolished, though they are still forbidden to amass private armies. Confucian values are promoted, and several academies and universities are built with many of the yangban elite partaking in education.
    • Gurkani Diplomacy: Shahzada Abbas Shah arrives at the Korean Imperial court, presenting the King with exotic spices, pearls, gold, ivory, silk rugs and a dozen wheellock rifles. These gifts are not only expected to impress the monarch, but to also be seen as a symbol of the wealth and power possessed by the Gurkani Sultanate. Nonetheless, following the presentation, Abbas requests the Monarchs permission to visit educational and military institutions throughout Korea, keen on observing Korean culture along the way and witnessing the Songun policy firsthand. Abbas also expresses his interest examining and possibly even purchasing the famed blast-furnaces, hoping to replicate them and introduce the concept back home.
      • Korean diplomacy: The Korean monarch is curious at the Gurkani envoys, having been told that they are from the region west of the Indian subcontinent. The Korean monarch is impressed at the gifts, and readily accept them. The Gurkani envoys are assigned special rooms in the royal palace for their stay, and are allowed special permission to study and visit educational and military institutions throughout Korea. The Korean monarch presents a trade agreement under which Korean yangban (civil servant) officials are to be sent to the Gurkani to spread the knowledge of how to build blast-furnaces, in exchange for Gurkani envoys to help reserve engineer wheellock rifles and use them within the Korean army.
      • Gurkani Diplomacy: Shahzada Abbas accepts the offer by the Korean monarch and leaves behind a team of 16 Mu'tazila intellectuals to aid the Koreans in reverse-engineering the rifles. Meanwhile, the Korean Yangban are directed toward the Gurkani fleet.
    • Bahmani Dip: We inquire whether the previous trade agreements we had with Korea (with the annual Korean trade fleet to India) will continue under the Songun policy.
    • Korean diplomacy: Korean envoys tell the Bahmanid envoys that the trade agreement shall continue, but with the Korean navy becoming more of a maritime protection force, we tell that the number of Korean ships sent will be less than what was before.
  • Papal States: The Portuguese rebels remain under interdict. Ignazio d'Iasso and his friends travel to Rome in order to have their Rule of the Company of Mary Immaculate (the Imaculatas) ratified by His Holiness.
Mayapan sends diplomats with the Iberians to see their homeland, while the gifts are received at the capital. The Emperor recognizes the importance of these new items, and instructs his diplomats to strike a trade deal with IBERA.
    • The United Crown welcomes the Mayan diplomats in Barcelona, and the King himself agrees to negotiate a new trade deal with the Mayan emissaries between the West Indies and Mayapan. The citizenry observe the strangely clothed foreigners with great interest, and they are given a tour of the great city of Barcelona by the sailors who transported them to Iberia, and are able to effectively act as translators and guides.

  • Bahmani Sultanate: The army helps Delhi to repel Tsetseg's banditti. Menon is left in command of the army as Nehal Shah returns to Gulbarga, while Navid Shah attempts to re-establish relations with the faraway Koreans. Work on the Odissa road is nearly complete. With multiple copies now printed, several copies of Kitab al-Fawa'id are sent to the major ports, there to be held by a special official who reads it thoroughly and can provide information, for a small fee, to any (non-Majapahit) merchant.
    • Pegu: Dhammazedi remains disappointed by the lack of major battles.
    • Maldives: Nothing of note.
  • Kingdom of England, Scotland and Ireland: Very little of importance happens within England this year, the King keeps working on having a fine navy while Captain Robes petitions the English court to give him more funding to explore the new continent yet the King refuses to fund another expedition not yet believing there are benefits. The King's younger daughter marries James the son of the powerful Earl of Chester. The King recognises the existence of the Kingdom of Portugal though as the Pope insists no one talk to it, the King remains distant from it.
  • Cologne: Hearing of Augsburg’s misguided remarks and Brandenburg’s measured reply to them, Archbishop Rhoderich sends a letter to Brandenburg thanking the Holy Roman Emperor and reaffirming Cologne’s alliance with Brandenburg. Meanwhile at home, the population continues to increase again with the Archbishop returning to writing pastoral letters, and the system of roads in Westphalen is at least halfway finished by the end of this year. Rhoderich’s health continues to miraculously improve as a result of his dedication and piousness, and people begin to see him as a role model. One of his canons, realising this, writes Rhoderich’s routines down with the hope that perhaps a document detailing his methods could inspire people. Meanwhile, a theologian from the University of Cologne comes to Rhoderich and presents a series of papers he has written about the educational deficiencies of the clergy and, with utmost respect, requests that Rhoderich investigate such deficiencies. Although he is initially reluctant, Archbishop Rhoderich tasks a commission (made of this theologian, a few other university-educated minds, and three canons from his chapter) with investigating the levels of education among clergy members.
    • Essen: Humanism continues to be integrated into the University of Essen’s teachings. Meanwhile, Abbess Meina’s sunrise walks, now dubbed Solis Ortum, become very successful and people from neighbouring countries flock to Essen in order to come see this spectacle of the people, this devotion to St Adelphina. There is yet another increase in the numbers of canonesses regular in Essen Abbey, and Meina takes this opportunity to scrutinise the Rule of St Augustine, which all canonesses regular at Essen have been following for hundreds of years. She has been lecturing on how to reboot the Adelphinian Reforms, and wonders if she can modify the Rule in place in her abbey to greater emphasise these reforms. She designates this task to Prioress Gershwina, who prepares a comprehensive report of where Augustinian Rule does not quite meet the standards of Adelphinian Reforms.
  • Augsburg: Same stuff as last tun. The Welsers make contact in the Malukus returning home with shiploads of spices.
  • After fierce meetings with Venetian families, Maximilian , Duke of Veneto and Archduke of Austria-Bavaria, signs the Great Charter of Venice , modeled after the Great Charter of Hungary . IN the Charter, however, are a few distinctions. It outlines the official judicial independance of Venice, basing this status within the HRE on the Austrian Privilegium Maius, which extends the privilegium de non evocado, i.e. judicial independance to Austria. As such, it makes the ARchduke the highest Authority in the land, and since the Archduke is also the Duke of Veneto, Maximillian interprets this to mean that the privilegium also applies to his other Holdings. However, it does not stop here, not only does the charter declare this to be true, but it requires action to be taken in order to officialy grant Veneto privilegium Separate from Austria (now Austria-Bavaria). Specific relationships between Austria and Veneto are codified, including the Position of Doge, which becomes the official plenopotentiary of Austria, elected in the traditional manner of Venice, and approved by the Duke. IN recognition of Venice's past as a trading Nation, the Charter officialy vows unrestricted trade through habsburg-affiliated lands and the Holy Roman Empire as an extension. It also gives Venice if not exclusive, but preferential treatment in the "lands of the Realm"--i.e. lands under the same sovreign or vassals thereof-the Habsburgs, which includes Austria, Hungary,Salzburg and Serbia. In the Charter, the old administrative and legislative structure of venice is once again codified into law, with the Duke(Duce) acting as the highest office, or in his place the Doge-his plenopotentiary. Those two positions, chosen entirely independantly, are bound to create interesting constitutional precidents in the future. However, this comes at a cost. Venice does have to pay a small portion of its state income to Maximillian, and furthermore must leave its arsenals and ports open to Austrian naval vessels, and while not required to provide land armies unless the "sovreignty of the nation is threatened", meaning that war is put to a vote (i.e. Mod Response and it requires a good reason--war with a trade rival for example), its ships may be conscripted into the Navy, and its large economy will support the army abroad. IN any case, a symbiotic relationship is reached, and with the coveted privilegium de non evocado effectively guaranteed upon the honour of House Habsburg, veneto is re-opened and things return to normal, or at least some semblance of it as the drums and bellows of war continue to beat in Bavaria, further integrating the economy/ Meanwhile, a few months after returning home, Maximillian's wife gets pegnant. Maximillian, now with five daughters, is praying to god for a son to secure the succession, as his cousin in Hungary is getting rather annoyed at the prospects of losing out his chance at succeeding the throne to a Woman of all things, considering that he only passed through the succession law because he though Maximillian would soon have a son, is now looking to repeal it in order to ge the throne. However, news of this throws him off guard, as many look to see what will happen, will the nation have an heir?
    • Venetian merchants begin building more trade connections inside the Holy Roman Empire, The Venetians, with their growing mediterranian network, travel through Austria and Bavaria, effectively protected from bandits by the Guards, not needing to worry about offending foreign leaders for their entire trips, begin using their old trade connections forged through nearly a century of being inside the HRE to begin setting up many shops around Germany. Venetian Banks open official branches in Venice and Munich and Stuttgart, with many more in the works, increasing economic output everywhere they go. In the meantime, more research is done into incorporating cannons into ship design, and how to most efficiently do this type of thing. More trade is done inside Hungary, as Venetians begin to improve thier lot, especialy with the benefits and privileges that the Great Charter of Venice, a solemn promice between the Habsburgs and the rest of the nation, comes to pass.
    • The Diet of Hungary, despite the pleas of Maximillian in various letters, is reluctant to give Venetians free acccess. However, with the compromise of lowered taxes, pass the bill without issue, thus cementing venetian trade as part of the "trade of the Realm", i.e., trade with subjects and vassals of their sovereign to not be subject to tarrifs. This has the unintended side effect of increasing government revenue by increasing the amount of trade and money flowing therefrom. However, these effects will be seen only in a few decades time, when Venice has fully integrated itself in Hungary.
  • South Australian Civilization: The city of Ngarrindjer continues to lead the heart of civilization for the region, pioneering new forms of art and culture, while building up its industry [economic structure, such as it is] in hopes of seeking vengance against Noongar in the future. In Noongar, the semi-nomadic barbarians live in great opulance, as they fawn on the great wealth obtained from their pillaging of the Adeleid valley. In Nukunu, Bakan Waku establishes his code of law, written in the more developed Murray script on a pillar in the center of town. It is purely a ceremonial monument for now, as neither can very many people read, nor is the code of law very fleshed out. In Kaurna, the city-state is dominated by Bakan Thubbo, son of Colebee, and his brother Karuah. The Black Fever continues to infect many people in the valley, now thrown out of villages as highly taboo. Over the last few decades, the extent of civilization has grown to many nomadic peoples of south Australia as far as OTL Brisbane, and comprises a total population of approximately 1.05 million.

The navy begins manoeuvres and exercises in the west Mediterranean, preparing for a naval assault on Lisbon. Meanwhile, the development of our colonies in the West Indies proceeds smoothly. The population currently stands at around 350, around half of whom are native-born. The West Indies Company begins looking to establish a new colony on another island.
7 Mods and not one to update the turn

Turn was delayed due to previous turns being delayed because of the election. Extra hours were added to allow people to catch up.

None of the previous turns were delayed to this extent. Besides, your statement would have been valid if tons of people got the chance to post following the extra hours given to Turn 1514. Rather, the only person who got the chance to post due to the extra hours was the player for Iberia who, BTW, doesn't even live in America.

Chill, the mods were trying to be considerate, they didn't need to be obviously. the mods seem to have had a plan it wasn't laziness. Person

How about we give the mods a strike?

The Nations List has been updated so that newer players know exactly which nations are open and which are not. Basically, players that haven't posted in a pretty long time have had their names removed-Rimp

  • The Gurkani Sultanate: Sultan Tahmasp Shah Mirza continued his rule over the Sultanate, with an-Nasir al-Hassan as the Caliph and Fath Ali Khan as the Grand Vizier. The Gurkani population rose to about 37.2 million with the people flocking to cities like Herat, Isfahan, Gamrun, Qazvin, Bukhara, Tabriz and Iskenderun; primarily due to their strategic position in the spice trade. In regards to religion, the Sultanate promoted Shia Islam, and advocated conversion to the Zaidi sect from other Islamic sects, often engaging in forced conversions. The military was composed of medium-to-heavy cavalry, composite bow, lance, mace, sword and in some cases, rifles. Heavy cavalrymen wore plated chain mail or metal lamellar armor, with their horses also wearing leather or metal lamellar barding. The infantry was equipped with daggers, swords and pikes to be utilised in close combat; with camels and horses being utilized for the transportation of supplies. The Sultanate diverted a significant amount of the budget toward funding the Mu'tazila, keen on empowering the Movement and enlightening the nation. Simultaneously, with the approval of the Imperial Council, thousands of prisoners were annually experimented upon, most notably being used for vivisection operations. Whilst these operations were seen as morally corrupt, they were nevertheless essential in the attempts to acquire knowledge regarding topics concerning human anatomy and physiology. In fact, the operations aided the Mu'tazila in closely observing the digestive tract, taking note of all minor details. One of the leading Mu'tazila, Adil ibn Nadeem later published Asrad-e-Badan (Secrets of the Body), a book detailing information related to general human anatomy and in particular, the digestive system. Meanwhile, the Ismaili and Jafari community were largely eradicated from the Sultanate, having been forced almost completely to flee to India. Simultaneously, the expulsion and slaughter of Turkmens had allowed the Shia Tajiks to quickly trickle into Astan-e-Merv, becoming a significantly large minority. Similarly, settlement policies adopted in Gilak and Mazanderan had allowed Persians to soon outnumber the locals, practically becoming a majority. The language Farsi had similarly become the lingua franca in the region. In particular however, a significant minority of Gilaki and Mazanderani youth spoke Farsi as their first language due to restructions placed on the local languages and the usage of Farsi in Madrassahs. Meanwhile, the Sepah-e-Najaf continued the efforts to defend their territory, manning the border to ensure complete and total security. Incursions by Tsetsegs forces were completely repelled with artillery units and cannons bombing the invading Horde to oblivion. Unlike the Indians, the Gurkani possessed resources technologically and numerically superior to those of the Horde and would not flinch to use them. About around the same time, Abbas finally left Korea, accompanied by Korean Yangban as well. The fleet chose to avoid its initial plan on visiting the Japanese monarch on the suggestion of the Koreans, and avoided mainland altogether, chosing to temporarily dock at the island of Okinawa before continuing on toward Tondo.
  • Korea continues its militarist Songun policy (先軍政治; seongun jeongchi), with the economy restructured to accommodate a stronger and well-trained military. The sent Gurkani intellectuals aiding the reverse engineering of wheel-lock rifles are given honorary yangban status. Meanwhile, gunpowder weaponry (such as hwacha, and old models of arquebuses) production increases, with said sectors being backed by the government as part of the militarist policy. Korean metallurgical industries are augmented with the construction of blast-furnaces, while mines spring across the northern countryside to harvest North Korea's mineral wealth to not only fund the policy but also bring raw materials to southern industrial complexes. The Manchu–Korean border continues to be fortified with the creation of a twenty-foot tall wall on the banks of the Yalu river, and preexisting forts are further cemented. Confucianism begins a process of re-entrenchment into Korean ethics and culture. Confucian values such as scholarship, merit, and artistry are promoted, and several academies and universities are built with many of the yangban elite partaking in education.
  • Kingdom of England, Scotland and Ireland: Things remain stable in England James Tagat the heir to the Earldom of Chester and the King's son-in-law has a son with the King's daughter. Minor disagreement in Wales over a certain lord changing his rental agreements with tenants to make up a shortfall in cash though it is not deemed serious. Little else occurs though the King visits Oxford and Cambridge and wishes to encourage better learning at these places and so orders more royal funds be given to them so they can offer higher pay to staff and attract more students and people of greater renown while a new competitiveness by the two libraries to get the largest collection of books compared to the other university and so a number of merchants are hired to go out and explore and find books to bring back for copying. Meanwhile the King also orders the construction of a number of new schools which while still charge as their property is royal property that helps alleviate the costs and other support is given to them to keep schooling costs in towns low.
  • Buha: The Sultan decides not to spread Islam very aggressively and Kuzirism remains the dominant religion. Rather now, patriotism is beginning to develop across the Sultanate. Many accuse the Sultan of using this as a ploy to have more control of the population, but Buha nationalism increases heavily. The Sultan still dreams of the day that Zaire will be liberated, of the day that Africa will be liberated. In Nyanza, the capital is re-built with Bini style architecture, being designed by Bini clergy who have left and some converted to Islam. The rainforest is being deforested, to build roads, and to build Bini - style cities. Farms are now modernized. The Government is further centralized, and the Sultan orders a design for a new flag.
  • Oman: Imam Nashat dies on Masirah Island. Believing the government to have been involved in his death, a group of his followers take over the island and declare independence. The Nashati army lands in Oman and attempts to rally the tribes. Their attempts to gain traction on the mainland are largely unsuccessful, and they are forced to retreat. After assisting Delhi in fighting the Tsetseg Khanate, the Omani musketeers are recalled to Oman to deal with the rebellion. The army lands in Masirah and recaptures the island in a decisive battle, ending the rebellion. King Suleiman ends production of wheellock muskets this year, enabling Oman to focus on producing matchlocks. A shipment of matchlocks are also sent to the Vohemar colony. Work continues on the Palace of Muscat and the Muscat harbor. A settlement is built on the island of Dina Arobi. 25 ships are built this year.
    • Vohemar: Expansion continues along the coast, with most land north of the fourth and fifth rivers (Sofia River) being colonized. Trading posts and settlements near Mahajanga are declared part of the colony, and forcibly taken should they refuse. Vohemar begins operating as its own country, although fully dependent on the mainland. The garrison at Port Vohemar is outfitted with matchlocks from Oman. Construction of the fort at Port Vohemar continues. Expensive vanilla from the Island of the Moon is introduced to the Indian Ocean trade, bringing new wealth to Oman and the colony. Trees are cut down in the south to make way for new farms and eventual expansion.

  • Kingdom Of Denmark has had a change in leadership, a new king and somewhat new government structure has come into place, planning on colonizing parts of Africa as well as sending diplomats to outside places for peace and trade. Other than stated, nothing of note.

Tsar Simeon agrees to meet Al-Hamad
  • Delhi Sultanate: The crackdown on rebels and Khans continues. Dismayed by the violence shown by the Rajputs, military intervention is sometimes required. Further north, troops in the Kashmir Valley ambush and take down raiders to defend the villages. Rebels and Khans arrested are either executed or sent to the Chagos. Fearing that the Khans and unrest may spread to Delhi City, Sultan Harshal makes a secret escape to Bhubaneswar; in this city, construction of the Orissa Road continues northeast through Cuttack toward Saptagram, and southwest toward Puri and Rajahmundry.
    • The Vassals: Ladakh doubles-down on its defenses with a war right at home seeming nigh; an attack on the city of Leh was mostly repulsed, with a few horses captured to be possibly used in battle. Over in Himalaya, the academy in Khumjung that was used to train formerly Gunterist younglings has found its new purpose; to train the youngling children of the arrested rebels the ways of Islam and loyalty to the Sultanate. The rulers of Marwar and Mewar are absolutely appalled at the actions the Rajputs have been taking, with security tightening in the villages; though mostly crushed before they snowball, revolts in Jodhpur remain a point of concern.

The Sultanate diverted a significant amount of the budget toward funding the Mu'tazila, keen on empowering the Movement and enlightening the nation. Simultaneously, like every other year, thousands of criminals were experimented upon by the Mu'tazila. These included operations in which the prisoners were deprived from certain nutrients to see how the body would respond. In other cases, the criminals were deliberately only given sea water. Meanwhile, the book published by Adil ibn Nadeem, Asrad-e-Badan (Secrets of the Body) became exceptionally popular amongst the Mu'tazila community, reaching all corners of the Sultanate within a short while. Meanwhile developments in the firearm industry allowed for the production of a 15 barrel volley gun, the first of its kind. About around the same time, the Sepah-e-Najaf continued to remain battle-ready at the borders, keen on thwarting any attack. About around the same time, Abbas And the fleet finally arrived at Tondo, moving around Luzon and landing at Mindoro. The fleet then visited Guimaras and the surrounding islands, before moving onto Masbate, Sorsogon and Samar. Following that, the fleet sailed south and visited Caraga before moving onto the territories of the Sultanate of Sulu. All the while, the Mu'tazila and Abbas took notes of what they witnessed, visited monastries and educational institutions and mapped out the area like they had throughout their journey.
  • Kingdom of Burgundy: In light of Iberias request, King Robert III assures them, it would be made clear that a Franco-Portuguese alliance would not be approved of by Burgundy. Meanwhile, in light of the Wesslers ventures into the East Indies, Burgundy authorizes the seizing of Wessler and Fugger sponsored vessels in those waters, in was is hoped would be a clear enough message to the Augsburg families to stay out. In the East Indies the merchant galleon August runs aground on OTL Great Nicobar island. The surviving crew claim the island for Burgundy, and mark it as "Sanna Island" on their maps. Back home, a Corsican man, calling himself Lodewijk Bonapaart, brings forward a proposal to find a westward route to Asia, via the southern end of Lauwentia. It's not known how much longer or shorter the western route would be, but the potential advantage is enough to get approval from the King and his council, and Bonapaart begins collecting supplies and sailors. Finally, an expedition from Burgundy lands in OTL Havana harbor, claiming the island.
  • Oman: Oman claims all islands north of the Island of the Moon, and begins establishing trading posts and settlements. Dina Arobi (Mauritius) is colonized, and settlements are built on Dina Morgabin (Réunion). These scattered islands are used as stopover points for slave traders and merchants coming from the Swahili coast and Vohemar, but their position also makes them suitable as bases for smugglers and pirates. As such, the waters north of the Island of the Moon become known for piracy. 27 ships of the Omani fleet are outfitted with swivel guns or light cannons this year. 15 ships are built this year. Production of matchlocks continues. Oman also begins producing its own naval artillery, albeit at a slow pace and of low caliber — they are mainly imitations of Gurkani designs. Work continues on expanding the harbor and palace in Muscat. In Arabia, King Suleiman is reunited with his brother Musaaid, who visits the Island of the Moon. Under his advice, an official tariff is put in place on the trade of vanilla beans in the colony.
    • Vohemar: The colony continues settling the area around Mahajanga, and declares Omani rule in the region. Vohemar claims the entire east coast of the island. Settlements are built near the Manampatrana and Mananara rivers near the south end of the island, and further north at the Namorona and Faraony rivers. The river acting as a border with the Swahili is named the Sisintany River. Construction of the fort continues at Port Vohemar. Governor Aatif Saab dies and is replaced by Suleiman's brother, Musaaid bin Mudhafar. Two ships are built in Vohemar this year.

Great emphasis is placed on the education and formation of novices in both theology and the lower sciences, as well as practical preaching skills. Their four vows: poverty, chastity, not seeking high ecclesiastical office, and obedience to the Pope, are hailed as being truly noble by Leo. The Company, now numbering around 100, holds its first General Assembly, and Ignazio d'Iasso, their founder, is unanimously elected the group's first Superior General. He begins making plans to head East to re-convert the Holy Land, whilst also ensuring the education of the Company's growing numbers of novices at the University of Bologna.

    • We are outraged by the usurper's paltry attempt at asserting his non-existent rights to the throne of Portugal by attempting to marry into the great House of Habsburg, and insist that the Archduke of Austria very carefully consider his response. We would very much prefer it if the Austrians did not mix with the so-called House of Bragança. AUSTRIA RESPONSE PLEASE. We continue preparations for a renewed invasion of Portugal. Development of our colonies continues as normal.

  • Kingdom of England, Scotland and Ireland: A peasant revolt kicks off in Wales after last year's disputes lead to two villagers from Gwifflyanea being killed by a Knight and then Knight being killed by the villagers. The local magistrate and some men attack the town and burn in but this sparks a peasant revolt. The welsh lords form their own force and try and attack the revolting peasants but they are outnumbered and retreat to their castles so the King of England raises 10,000 men to pacify the region and leaving the rest of his forces to protect England. It takes him three months but the welsh have still yet to organise into one army or under a single leader and so the English scatter the Welsh but rather than return to their villages they contuine fighting in small guerrilla bands making a serious problem for the English king. The King's son in law James Tagat is given command of the force. Village burning rarely helps as the peasants normally flee the villages before the attacks due to good sentries and warnings. The rebellion continues even after James to take his army home. The King is forced to create a 1000 strong light cavalry force to permanently garrison Wales, the Yeomen of the Guard are created. This unit are lightly armoured and equipped with mobility valued over weight. The unit are paid for and equipped by the Crown and are their armour is a lot lighter with breastplates, helmets and leather jerkins and armed with cavalry lances and are stationed in central wales upon the river Severn to allow them to strike anywhere. Meanwhile, the King wants to remove the welsh as a threat so close and needs to find a way to depopulate the region. Captain Robes steps forward and proposes he be allow to set up a prison in the new continent as it appears underpopulated and fertile capable of absorbing a lot of people to his understanding and the potential to use this prison to explore further and either find gold and silver as claimed by the natives or break through to Asia. The King agrees to his proposal and Captain Robes says he first wishes to land some 200 English troops in 1517 and establish a fort to act as a defence against natives and the Welsh prisoners before they will start moving the welsh in large numbers. The King agrees to his plan as the only way of dealing with the welsh problem and silencing parts of court which want to explore. Captain Robes sets to work preparing his new 200 man expedition.
  • Bulgarian Empire: Tsar Simeon looking to set a precedent and Tradition announces his abdication from the throne in favor of his Son Boris who is crowned the following month. Emperor Boris maintains a position in the empire for his father treating him much the same as the legendary Vasili who served the Empire until his death as a general and important advisor/minister in the empire. Tsar Boris with Al-Hamad in Bulgaria entertains him giving him all due comforts and audience. Tsar Simeon having mellowed in his age even agrees that getting some sort of agreement to normalize and create a friendship between the Ottomans and the Bulgarian Empire would be extremely beneficial. Bulgarian Tsar Boris agrees to begin negotiations on a Pact between Bulgaria and the Ottomans. While this causes some extreme hostility from the nobility to their new Tsar, Boris sells the idea, planning on getting the Ottomans to forever abandon claims to Europe and at the same time gain a significant trade advantage in the area. This is sold particularly well to the merchant families who agree that while "Religion may be important, but so is our livelihoods, if an agreement is reached that is one less enemy for the Empire in an unstable Europe." The Tsar himself responds "The Lion of the Balkans has proven itself time and again since my Grandfather drove the Italian and Ottomans out, we are not to be trifled with, and our last bout with the Ottomans has certainly driven the point home that the Balkans is our homeland, but I remain a practical man, one that understands the benefits of a friendly and stable Turkish neighbor. The convincing speech brings many of the nobility around and even members of the church who have begun to sway away from militant preachings to a much more pacifistic mood in order to more greatly integrate the various ethnicities of the Empire. Tsar Boris himself begins to show much relation to the Vlach-Bulgars being able to speak to them in their own native tongue as well as the developing Vlacho-Bulgarian hybrid language. While still considering themselves Bulgarians and Vlach's the province is noticeably becoming more integrated into the empire as the various forms of culture mixing continues to permeate the larger settlements and cities. The Farmlands however become noticeably more Bulgarian in ethnic makeup. In Greek the same issue remains, with a semi-hostile Greek populace unwilling to live under the Bulgars, the Tsar was forced to personally lead the entire makeup of Bulgarias legions into Greece to strike down unrest. Thessograd and the newly rebuilt Sparta are noticeable centers od government over the Greek area and the various Greek populations are noticeably more concentrated on the remaining large greek cities. Athens however remains remarkably separate from the rest of the Greeks, throwing itself into the agreement made with Tsar Simeon on their entrance. As a result in the short time since their acquisition, the Athenian merchant groups have spread a new way of economic thought to the Bulgarian families creating a series of well protected and powerful artisan and merchant groups. While still beholden absolutely to the power of the Tsar, this does give them considerable influence against the Aristocratic and Beraucratic nobility, the trade dominance of the merchant families, and the Soldier and manpower dominance of Bulgarias extremely large non serf population. This lack of Feudalism in large regard is noticed to be a major driver in Bulgaria's economic growth, and population growth. The Populations pushes roughly 5.02 million.

  • South Australian Civilization: Kaurna is struck with the Black Fever again, but this time, none of the previous attempts to abait it seem to work. Karuah, brother of the Bakan, at last sought with the Dreamspeakers how to fix this curse. The Dreamspeakers informed Karuah that there is only one way to stop the plague and save Kaurna: take the ark that belonged to Tjilbruke, and take it to Mount Uluru where it originally belonged, and there it will do its work. So Karuah jouneyed first to the city of Ngarrindjeri, and asked to take the Ark of Tjilbruke from them. Bakan Djalu, leader of the city, said he'd let Karuah take the Ark if he proved himself worthey: by removing the Yowie monster from the city, who had been distrubing their crops. After studying the Yowie from a distance for many days, Karuah surmised it was looking for food, so he created a trap made out of honey, and used it as bait to trap the Yowie solid. Bakan Djalu was so pleased to see the Yowie captured, not only did he give Karuah the Ark, but also his daughter in marriage. Karuah, thankful, took the Ark and pressed north to Mount Uluru. Meanwhile, the forces of Noongar attempted an attack against Nukunu, which terrified Bakan Waku greatly. But Mawukurra, the mad genius, developed a series of mirrors by which the siege weapons of Noongar were set on fire, driving them back.

The Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire, appalled at the actions of Sultan Selim with regards to Bulgaria, conspires with other officials who share his concerns to have the Sultan arrested. As Selim had killed all of his brothers, the new Sultan is Selim's cousin's son, Suleiman.

Without the support of Tsetseg Khan, the Rajputs are easily crushed.

Tsetseg Khan invades the Astrakhan Khanate.

  • Kingdom of Burgundy: In light of recent claims made in the new world, it is decided to charter a company to oversea the colonies while government sponsored expeditions set about finding the lands and routes themselves. The Burgundian West India Comoany is given jurisdiction over the West Indies and the new world, while the Burgundian East India Company is given jurisdiction over Burgundian interests in India and the East Indies. In the West Indies, the island now named Kuba continues to be claimed for Burgundy, and the Company personnel are authorized to use force if necessary to secure and convert the island and its native populace. Burgundian ships continue to be authorized to seize Wessler and Fugger vessels operating in the East Indies, and the prizes of gold and trade goods are well received in Burgundy.
  • The Gurkani Sultanate: Sultan Tahmasp Shah Mirza continued his rule over the Sultanate, with an-Nasir al-Hassan as the Caliph and Amanullah Khan as the Grand Vizier. The Gurkani population rose to about 37.5 million with the people flocking to cities like Herat, Isfahan, Gamrun, Qazvin, Bukhara, Tabriz and Iskenderun; primarily due to their strategic position in the spice trade. By now, the Mu'tazila community had become quite self-sufficient, capable of financing its own operations and funding the construction of Madrassahs, Libraries and Observateries throughout the Sultanate. Nonetheless, this was irrelevant to the Imperial Council which continued to fund the Mu'tazila on the orders of the Sultan, Tahmasp being an active member of the Mu'tazila. By now, the experiments conducted by the Mu'tazila the previous year had allowed them to learn that drinking sea water led to dehydration, and that particular minerals or salts present in the water absorbed the moisture from the human body. Similarly, other experiments led to the discovery of how certain diseases affected the body if a person was forced to adopt a particular diet for a prolonged time. These included diseases such as scurvy which primarily affected those prisoners which were deprived of citrus fruits. Both of these discoveries, as well as others were then later published in the second volume of Asrad-e-Badan (Secrets of the Body), a highly popular book related to topics concerning biology, anatomy and physiology. Meanwhile, the Sultan welcomed the coup d'etat in the Ottoman Empire, having been apalled at the actions of Selim. Quickly recognizing the new regime, Tahmasp delivered envoys to the Ottoman court at Ankara, assuring Sulaiman of financial and military aid. Turning his attention back to issues that mattered, Tahmasp was left shocked after being informed that Tsetseg had decided to invade the Astrakhan Khanate. Immediately, the Sultan called the Imperial Council in session and dismissed Fath Ali Khan, effectively turning him into a scapegoat and placing the entire blame upon him for not preventing the war. The Council then continued without Fath Ali, and following mutual consultation with the Lesser Viziers, Amanullah Khan was appointed as the new Grand Vizier. Another important decision that came out of the Council was that with unanimous consent, it was agreed that the Sultanate would intervene to aid the Astrakhan. Immediately, light artillery units and bronze cannons were transported to the Astrakhan Khanate, being flanked by cavalry and infantry divisions. These were further reinforcement by the Sepah-e-Najaf, the elite infantry unit armed with the wheellock rifles. Of most importance however was the recently developed 15 barrel volley gun which had not yet been utilized in battle and was thus a source of curiosity. In total, 120,000 were deployed to aid in the defence of Astrakhan territory. Secretly, envoys were sent to Tsetseg Khan, informing the Khagan that if he pulled back from his invasion of the Astrakhan, Sultan Tahmasp would grant him and his Horde safe-passage to the Delhi Sultanate via the Khyber Pass, essentially bypassing the Himalayas (MOD RESPONSE NEEDED) Meanwhile, Abbas and the fleet finally left the Sultanate of Sulu, having mapped the entire archipelago upon which Tondo and Sulu were situated (albeit not perfectly). Moving on, the fleet temporarily docked at Luwu and mapped out the otl Makassar and Borneo islands before continuing on toward Sunda (OTL Java). Docking at Hujung Galu, Abbas and the Mu'tazila travelled to the capital city, Trowulan Majapahit, meeting with various intellectuals as well as religious leaders. In particular, Abbas learned of the Timur islands whilst studying at the libraries there and most importantly, the presence of massive endless territory south of Sunda (otl Australia). Meanwhile, during these meetings and visits to Majapahits religious and educational sites, Abbas had a "spiritual moment", and converted to Gunterism, purchasing multiple Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma statues, the Vedas and the Upanishads. Abbas made sure not to disclose his conversion with anyone though and stated that the Hindu religious items were simply 'souveniers'.

Bulgaria reiterates its former diplomacy with Selim to Suleiman. Abandon claims to Europe, and Bulgarian assistance in the East is assured. (with possibility of Polish and Russian help just as likely)
    • Gurkani Diplomacy: Envoys arrive from the Sultanate, congratulating Suleiman on ascending the throne and promise him financial and military support from Sultan Tahmasp. Military expansion continues under the tutulage of the young and ambitious Freidrich who builds upon the solid foundations established under his Grand father and continues his father's patronage of science and culture, focusing a lot on improving the Universities that had been somewhat neglected over the last few decades. WIth massive funds being geared toward improving the facultues of mechanical arts (engineering), medecine, astronomy, and alchemy/chemistry Particular empasis is put into the funding of the teaching of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, with Algebra, Geometry, Astronomy, Anatomy and Medicine. Major efforts to increase the collection of works in the Brandenburg Archives are made and to expand the amount of professors, and lecturors, instructors from Bulgaria are invited to come and work in Brandenburg, several young Academics also decide to travel to Bulgaria to study with Royal sponsorship. Expansion of Brandenburg's literary, and philosophical circles continues and the works inspired by both the Renassaince and by classical Germanic works from the Germanic Geroic Age becoming popular. Architecture also starts to change as new inspirations by both Romano-Bulgar, and by classical Gothic styles begins starting in Berlin and Breslau. This new trend of cultural flourishing starts to influence the direction of the Reformed Catholic Churchg which is slowly focusing more and more on German issues and mentality shifting away from issues related to Rome and Italy specially with the Italian separation from the HRE.  Cottage industry, mining, and smithy activities continue to expand. Expansion of the Use of Cannons in the armed forces is noted with the introduction of Bronze cannons, and more efficient Match lock arquebuses which start to make up entire unites in the Brandenburgian forces making the ratio of arqubusiers to 1/4th of the total forces .Centralization of military command from the nobility to the crown continues as benefits and royal duties are issued out to the nobility in exchange for the increased loss of military power, with many noble youth becoming new administrators and officers a more centralized state structure, while still retaining their feudal privledges over the peasants. The city of Berlin continues to grow with the influx of more nobles, artisans, engineers, and merchants leading to a very vibrant high society, with the Berlin Palace at the heart of it all. • Kingdom of England, Scotland and Ireland: As the Welsh insurgency contuses the new Yeomen of the guard gain a reputation for their brutality and mobility though Wales is still not pacified. As part of the other method of dealing with the Welsh issue funded by the King, Captain Robes is appointed to Lieutenant governor Robes sets out with five ships the Valiant leading and 200 passengers on board all English, male and while farmers all have secondary training in both longbows and swords. The 150 men and their ships arrive in the new continent to set up his majesty Penal colony of Avalon. The colonists sails into the river with Lieutenant governor Robes and make landfall north of the Native village on the 3rd June and set up their new colony on the southern bank of the river where a tributary flows in (modern day Montmagny) and it is named Fort Edward in honour of the King. With supplies provided by the ships the men spent the next three months chopping down trees and constructing a wooden fort with a basic perimeter wall and line of stakes. In October after three months of working hard the first people start trying to set up agriculture in their new space as the farming year starts. Limited by the number of animals they could bring but they still set to work growing none the less while others continue logging and construction. When October starts another ship comes in with supplies, news from England and takes back word of the group's progress. Winter is harsh and violent but the groups arrival in summer has given them time to construct a vast hall for everyone to sleep in as no one is yet creating their own homes. The hall has thick walls and built well into the ground with enough wood to keep a fire in a stone hearth going. The group if they survive will receive the first inmates of the penal colony. Meanwhile in England everything remains stable with anticipation as to the group surviving the winter.

They are much more likely Malagasy, Omani, and some of the various nationalities of the Swahili coast. A fit of the dancing plague strikes Augsburg.

Tsetseg Khan, not having received word back from the Gurkani, continues his war but still waits for their response. He hopes to reach a mutually beneficial agreement.

In Brandenburg, a monk named Adalbert Jäger begins travelling around and distributing printed versions of The Jägerian Theses, in which he outlines several grievances with the Catholic Church and declares that the Northern Rite should be on equal footing with the Latin Rite, including the right to have a Pope of the Northern Rite. He proclaims that the only two sacraments are baptism and the Eucharist because they were the only two established by Christ. Furthermore, he states that salvation is only achieved through grace, not works, and therefore that indulgences are invalid and a scam.

Which grievances? How can players respond without concrete grievances? And it is autonomous, that's what sui iuris means. ~Cal

Aided by the drop in population, roughly the western third of the island is under Burgundian control.

In contrast to Hassan and Adil however, the Clan Head Abdullah ibn Nadeem was notably an extremely wealthy merchant, having trade caravans from Iskenderun to Kabul, and from Basra to Kerch; dominating the spice trade. Meanwhile, the Grand Vizier Amanullah Khan finally responded to requests by the Swahili Sultanate for a printing press, and accepted it, offering a printing press for two sacks of gold, hoping to make profit off the sale. Meanwhile, in response to Tsetsegs renewed attacks upon the Astrakhan, the Gurkani forces deployed their finest artillery pieces to oblierate each successive wave with nonstop bombardment. Simultaneously, envoys were secretly dispatched once more to Tsetseg Khan, informing him that his proposal had been accepted and a 100 matchlock rifles, 300 arquebus rifles and a dozen Great Gurkani Bombards had been deployed at the intersection of the Kunar and Kabul Rivers; with the ammunition and artillery more than enough to destroy the Delhi Sultanate, the latter possessing no weaponry on par with what the Gurkani had offered. [MOD RESPONSE] Guides were also sent along to Tsetseg who would lead his Horde directly to the Khyber Pass, and then onward toward Lahore and Delhi. Keen on allowing a swift and peace transition, the Sultan deployed most of the army to the East to ensure that the Horde did not attempt to turn hostile. The weaponry was positioned near the River, well-guarded by the Sepah-e-Najaf who awaited the arrival of the Horde so that they may acquire the weaponry and continue onward. Meanwhile, Abbas and the Mu'tazila departed from Majapahit, sailing through the Sunda Straits. They headed straight toward Kolonthota, temporarily docking there before continuing on toward Yemen.
    • Tsetseg Khan is satisfied with this arrangement and turns his armies around. -scraw
  • Papal States: Hearing news of England's establishment of a settlement in Avalon, the Papal Nuncio writes to the King of England, asking that a number of priests join the settlers, both to act as chaplains to them, and to spread the Good News to the natives. The Immaculata have become more widespread, with members of the new order appearing throughout the States, especially in the Universities. News of Jäger's so-called "Theses" arrives at the Inquisition, and they conduct an investigation into the monk's work. [EDIT: Rest of turn adapted to the more-detailed event:] The "Jägerian Theses" are condemned for the grave heresy of denying five of the seven Sacraments, and Jäger himself is called to front a Court of Discipline to recant his clear heresy. The Inquisition publishes a decree banning the "Theses", which also contains a brief explanation. In it, the Inquisitors point to various scriptural references which deal with the establishment of all Seven Sacraments, as well as referring to the various Ecumenical Councils, which affirm the existence of all seven Sacraments: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Confession, Matrimony, Holy Orders, and Annointing the Sick. Relating to the doctrine of Salvation, the Inquisitors write that Jäger is correct in saying that Salvation can only be achieved by the Grace of God, and not by one's works alone [that's Catholic teaching, see Council of Trent Sixth Session Canon I]. He falls into error, however, where he states that Indulgences have no value. They write that Christ gave the Church power to grant indulgences when he told St Peter that whatever he bound or loosed on earth would be bound or loosed in Heaven, and note that Indulgences to not relate to the Salvation of one's soul, but the forgiveness of the temporal punishment in Purgatory for already-forgiven sins. Relating to the erection of a new "Northern Papacy", the Inquisitors state that Jäger clearly misunderstands the notion of the Papacy. The Pope is the shepherd over all the churches that make up the Catholic Church: Latin, Greek, Bulgarian, and Northern. The notion of there being two Popes is therefore nonsensical. The Pope is also Patriarch specifically of the Latin Church. The Northern Church, whilst now governed by a Primate, could have its own Patriarch in the future, and thus be placed on equal footing with the Latin, Greek, and Bulgarian churches.
    • Yo, this is not a complaint, but there is a second pope... the one in Alexandria (Copts).
    • That's true, but as far as I'm aware, the Copts aren't in communion with Rome. Also, Cologne raises a good point. Is the event meant to mean that Jaeger wants the Northern Rite to have its own 'Pope of the North', or does it mean that he wants Northern-Rite bishops to have the ability to become Pope?
    • He wants there to be the latter. -scraw
    • Oooohh, right. I guess I'll deal with that next turn.
  • Oman: Omani merchants begin trading with Augsburg given their close proximity to Vohemar. In order to preserve trade with the Majapahit, envoys are sent to the Bengal Sultanate to discourage them from going to war. A fleet of 26 ships is sent to the east African islands to hunt down these pirates and capture their hideouts. Naval patrols are sent along the trade routes to the Swahili coast and Majapahit. The island of Dina Morgabin is colonized. Expeditions are also made to the southern cape of Africa to assess the viability of a western trade route. The Palace of Muscat and the Muscat harbor are completed in time for Numair bin Suleiman's 12th birthday. Suleiman bin Mudhafar holds a feast at the palace to celebrate its completion. 29 ships are built this year.
    • Vohemar: The colony expands into the heart of the island, cutting through forests and building new settlements in the highlands near the territory of the Merina people. The Omani settlers negotiate peace and trade with the Merina, in exchange for assisting them in subjugating the neighboring tribes. The fertile plateaus of Imerina are excellent for farming, and Omani settlements in the region prosper. Meanwhile, expansion continues along the coasts. Some settlements are built along the Sisintany, but most expansion occurs in the east. Attacks by Malagasy natives become more common, and lack of military support deters settlers from moving further inland. However, Vohemar is able to maintain a narrow band of territory stretching from the main colony to the southernmost settlement on the island. The Alrramali Fort at Port Vohemar is completed this year. A trading post is also built on the southern tip of the island. Vohemar contributes 4 ships to the Omani fleet in the north. 9 ships are built this year.
    • Just saying I hope you know your nation has an upper limit to the fleet size it can support, so please keep that in mind when getting your Fleet up to speed -Feud
    • I assume that for however many ships we produce: some of them sink, older ones are scrapped, etc. Many of our ships are used for trade or diplomatic missions and not military purposes, and they aren't all concentrated into a single fleet. I'd like to know what the upper limit is, though. -General
  • South Australian Civilization: The brave prince Karuah, with the Ark of Tjilbruke strapped to his back, treked across the Australian desert to reach Mount Uluru. Along the way he encountered many dangers and wonders: the seductive Three Maids of Goolwa, the City of Yowie-men, and of course the terrible Bunyip, who Karuah barely escaped with his life. At long last, he reached the mountain Uluru. After spending many hours scaling the mountain with the Ark strapped on, he encountered a strange old man on the cliff face. The old man said he was trapped there, and could not climb down safely unless someone helped him. And so, being kind, Karuah decided to let down the Ark into a crevis in the rock, so he could help the old man down to earth. At that point, the old man revealed himself to be Lord Ngintaka, thanking Karuah for returning his Ark. Ngintaka explained that the Ark contained much power, enough to level whole armies, but can only be used selfishly. Because Karuah did the noble act of returning the Ark to Uluru, he would permit the prince to ask one selfless wish instead. So Karuah wished that the town of Kaurna be freed of the Black Fever thar plagued it, and so Ngintaka granted this wish, and the town was saved.

    • A new partnership between former adversaries, the Iberio-Augsburg Agreement opens a new chapter in the history of our relations. Under the agreement, we will expect Augsburg to provide professional mercenary armies to assist our military in our quest to retake lands which rightfully belong to the Crown. In return, Iberia will provide ports such as Lisbon (when it is retaken) as bases for the Augsburgites to conduct their trade expeditions (OCT WE NEED TO DISCUSS THE SPECIFICS OF THE AGREEMENT PLEASE). We continue preparations for an invasion of the rebellious Portugal.
    • In the West Indies, the West Indies Company continues to develop the colonies. Settlements currently exist at Havana, Cuba; Ferrera, Hispaniola; and Eleanora, Santiago (OTL Jamaica). We make plans for another attempt to colonise the mainland, specifically the Fernandian Peninsula. The population of the West Indies settlements currently stands at around 400, around half of whom are native-born. We continue trading with the native Mexica and Maya peoples.

      • Funny you say that, Guy. I've had a settlement at Havana since 1508. Check the archives if you don't believe me. You only claimed to have settled it eight years later, in 1516. So Cuba is mine, thank you. ~Tim
  • Korea continues its militarist Songun policy (先軍政治; seongun jeongchi), with the economy restructured to accommodate a stronger and well-trained military. Wheel-lock rifles are successfully reversed engineers with the help of Gurkani intellectuals, and are given honorary yangban status plus five concubines each to honour them for their work. The first wheel-lock rifles are produced, phasing out older arquebuses and hand cannons, as well as earlier models of rifles. Korean cannons, hwacha, and other gunpowder weapons plus artillery are produced. Korean metallurgy is augmented with the construction of blast-furnaces, while mines spring across the northern countryside to harvest North Korea's mineral wealth to not only fund the policy but also bring raw materials to southern industrial complexes.
  • Cologne: Archbishop Rhoderich has again been struggling with his illness of the lung for the past five years and has been mostly focusing on his personal health. People continue to see him as a role model. The population has gone up at least somewhat across these years, and the roads are almost finished, the building of the roads having stalled a little without Rhoderich’s guiding hand. The document detailing Rhoderich’s routines is finally published with the Stelzner press in Essen. Finally, the report by the 1513 commission is finally delivered to Rhoderich, the commission having looked painstakingly through these deficiencies, and Rhoderich decides to remedy these deficiencies by founding a seminary in central Cologne. This will provide all new priests with a similar, standardised basic knowledge and prevent educational deficiencies. Meanwhile, the Archbishop notices the rise of the heretic Jäger in Brandenburg and meticulously enforces the ban on the ideals of the Jägerian Theses. He is however of a mind that perhaps Jäger did not mean to imply that the Church should allow two Popes but rather allow the Pope to be of the Northern Rite.
    • Essen: Although the Solis Ortum Walks have continued over these past five years, and although humanism has continued to be integrated into the University of Essen, unfortunately Prioress Gershwina (who was in charge of the comprehensive report) passed away in a tragic accident involving the tools of field work. Meanwhile, many young women from wider Cologne gathered in Dormagen send a small group of young women to Essen with the request that they create a daughter abbey following in the footsteps of Essen Abbey, because the latter is nearly at capacity. The canonesses of Essen agree and Abbess Meina permits the new abbey to be founded and built. However, she wonders how to best help the daughter abbey follow in the footsteps of Essen Abbey and St Adelphina, and eventually she and her canonesses come up with a brilliant idea: to found an Order of St Adelphina as a particular Rule of monastic life, so that the daughter abbey and any further daughter abbeys might easily follow the relevant practices. If the good deeds of the abbey can be replicated without much stress, then surely it will be better for the religion as a whole. Abbess Meina begins investigation into how this can be achieved.
  • Sweden: The message from Denmark unsettles us ... we haven't had motion from the Danish regime and monarchy in some time ... we are in the dark regarding the matter of succession and await a response from Copenhagen. Adalbert Jäger is thought of as right in his favour, and he should be praised in his actions, not vilify. There is a Pope already in Alexandria, the one of the Copts. Therefore, Karl Vasa, by His grace, King of Sweden, Protector of Gotland, Warden of the Finnish Marches, Emperor of Scandinavia and Lion of Midnight offers asylum to Adalbert Jäger until the situation can be resolved. We call upon our loyal friends Norway and Brandenburg to do so as well, and ask England to join us. Meanwhile, we perform the toss of coin needed for the positions in the House of Kings and House of Trusted (RNG). The second son of King Karl, Kettil, is sent for fostering in Bulgaria, at the recommendation of our ally Brandenburg.
    • RNG Result - 79 (1-50: Head, King of Denmark becomes Lord High Thane; 51-100: Tail, Queen of Norway becomes Lord High Thane). The Queen of Norway is Lord High Thane of Scandinavia.

  • Kingdom of England, Scotland and Ireland: James Tagat, the King's son-in-law, raises an army of 15,000 and declares war on Denmark ,if they do not respond to Sweden, in conjunction with Sweden and Norway's war against Denmark. The King goes out to one his isolated country estates where it is harder to kill him. His son in law James Tagat with this 15,000 strong army north to Scotland. James first moves through the lands of the Earldom of Lennox to demand that Andrew brother of the Earl of Lennox surrender. He will be pardoned if he admits that the Danes were involved and gives the name of all his co-conspirators. If he doesn't we ask his brother the Earl of Lennox to surrender the traitor or he too will be branded traitor and will be attacked. (MOD RESPONSE REQUIRED) Once we have dealt with the plot leader we continue our march to Danish holdings in Scotland and if Denmark doesn't reply to Sweden and they agree storm Dundee and then once we have Dundee we should march onto Aberdeen and storm it. Meanwhile in the penal colony of Avalon, the group has survived the winter and part of the group keep working on trying to grow food on their own though a resupply convoy containing food arrives in March while a party goes to Stadacona to trade western made trinkets such as jewelry, weapons, armor and clothing for food with natives. They also start hunting some of the large mammals in the land such as moose and deer. The farming group pull their reasonable harvest in October giving them some extra food while the rest of them keep working on building a secure fort with walls, towers, a line of sharpened stakes and a second layer of walling on the main sleeping hall for warmth after a cold winter. A number of priests arrive in the colony at the request of the Pope. Lieutenant Governor Robes plans to start moving the first welsh convicts to the colony after their second harvest. In England a number of merchants fiance the first English sea voyage to India around the cape to trade with southern India's for spices and silks to bring back to England.

A surprise occurs when a Scottish force 18,000 15,000 strong led by the Earl of Argyll and consisting of men from other nearby areas arrives to make battle with the English outside the castle. The surprise attack allows Lennox and his men to ride out from the castle and crush the English between the two armies. The English cavalry, however, overrun the Scottish men to make a hasty retreat. In the chaos, James Tagat is captured. -scraw
    • (OOC) Person/ England: Ok this is ridiclous, I did promise a pardon first. Second where did 18,000 men appear from. The maximum troop numbers according to the algo and the Scottish population make it impossible for 18,000 men to be in Scotland under arms. Why the hell do the Scots care or do this. Some guy tries to kill the King for a reason I don't know, I offer him a pardon if he cooperates. He says no, I say well you can't come out until you cooperate then a phantom army of 18,000 men appear by surprise and win. What the hell do they gain by just attacking. I get your trying to do negative events for everyone and drive me out of Scotland but this is outright bullshit. Take a lot more time to think your events through because honestly not a single part of this event makes any sense.
    • Scotland had 15,000 to 18,000 men at Solway Moss, which was in 1542. I guess something of a lower figure makes sense for 1518. This whole thing is an elaborate scheme between Lennox and Argyll to make Scotland great again, it just so happens that Andrew was stupid and got caught. -scraw

  • Maximillian of Austria-Bavaria, Desperate for a Husband for his daughter, he marries her to a second son of a minor Styrian noble family, Robert von Eggenburg. They are married, and a proclamation is made that any "child of the union" will bear the name von Habsburg-Wittelsbach, and be considered part of the Wife's, rather than the Husband's family, on the great insistance of Maximillian. IN order to not take any chances, he also marries Anna von Habsburg-Wittelsbach, his second daughter, in the same manner to Willhelm von Furstenburg, a minor noble from Wurttemburg. Both married couples are "encouraged" to remain at court for rather obvious reasons. Meanwhile, The economic interests of both Austria and Bavaria begin to merge rather rapidly, and "blocking" of trade to Florence and Milan are begining to increase, stopping short of a direct naval blockade. Spies are confered with as to the best precise moment to strike, as well as the Austrian military being increased in size and organization, with the new wheelock muskets becoming the predominant form of firearm, being much quicker to reload than simple matchlock muskets. However, Military matters are not the only things occuring in the nation, great strides are made as the renaissance sweeps through the nation, increasing both investment in science and technology, as well as various new natural philosophers and alchemists to pop up around the nation. Maximillian begins to work on the promises made to the Venetians, calling for a "Privilegium Venetiae" to be officialy proclaimed aside from the privilegium Maius. The Religious happenings up in Brandenburg are ignored for now, as while it is known in some circles, news really hasn't reached the Archduke as of yet, aside from some minor unsubstanciated rumours.
Athens, however, remains remarkably separate from the rest of the Greeks, throwing itself into the agreement made with Tsar Simeon on their entrance. This lack of Feudalism in large regard is noticed to be a major driver in Bulgarias economic growth, and population growth. The Populations pushes roughly 5.02 million.

  • The Gurkani Sultanate: Sultan Tahmasp Shah Mirza continued his rule over the Sultanate, with an-Nasir al-Hassan as the Caliph and Amanullah Khan as the Grand Vizier. The Gurkani population rose to about 38 million with the people flocking to cities like Herat, Isfahan, Gamrun, Qazvin, Bukhara, Tabriz and Iskenderun; primarily due to their strategic position in the spice trade. With Tsetseg having departed for the Delhi Sultanate, the ambitious Grand Vizier, Amanullah Khan in conjunction with Sultan Tahmasp ordered an invasion of the Hordes territories in Central Asia, having been left rather undefended following Tsetsegs departure. Immediately, the forces which had been deployed at Astrakhan were transported to Baku before marching onward to Mashhad and Bukhara. The two cities were used as the centers of operations for the offensive with field artillery, flanked by cavalry and infantry divisions involved in the invasion. They were further reinforced by the rifle-wielding Sepah-e-Najaf with an overall 120,000 troops involved. Meanwhile, an additional 140,000 were deployed close to the Khyber Pass to ensure the repulsion of any incursion in the event Tsetseg chose to turn around and attack the Gurkani. The scenario was generally not expected given that Tsetsegs territories in Mawarannahr were left practically independent following his departure and were worthless to him, yet Amanullah would not take any chances. Meanwhile, the construction of a fort at the Khyber Pass began. Meanwhile, Abbas visited San'aa and later toured through Shia settlements throughout Yemen, requesting the locals to migrate to the Gurkani Sultanate where they would be protected. Later that year, Abbas and his fleet finally departed for Gamrun.
  • South Australian Civilization: The three most powerful Bakans of the Murray valley, namely Waku, Djalu, and Thubbo, enter into an economic pact to stand up against the city-state of Noongar, who is the most powerful rival to the west. In Nukunu, one of Bakan Waku's sons is found to be a vicious Yaramayhawho, who starts going ferral and eating the heads of many people in the city. Determined to keep this curse under control, Waku orders the genius Mawakurra to design an elaborate series of catacombes to deposite the Yaramayhawho in, one with mechanical doors and passageways that prevents the creature form leaving, but things can enter more easily. Capitalizing on their economic empire from years of raiding, the state of Noongar begins constructing larger cities across south-west Australia, and even builds a small village on Kangaroo Island.

In the meantime, we are also concerned with the rapid progression of disease in Cuba, Santiago and Hispaniola, and decide to investigate the matter further.

  • Korea continues its militarist Songun policy (先軍政治; seongun jeongchi), with the economy restructured to accommodate a stronger and well-trained military. Wheel-lock rifles continue to be produced, replacing older rifle models plus archaic arquebuses and hand cannons. Other gunpowder weapons such as hwacha and the Korean cannon continue to be made. The metallurgical industries are augmented with the construction of blast-furnaces, while mines spring across the northern countryside to harvest northern Korea's mineral wealth and to fill the national treasury, in order to fund the current Songun policy. The Manchu–Korean border continues to be fortified, and the wall plus preexisting forts are cemented, hoping to prevent the future spillage of Manchus into the peninsula. Confucianism begins a process of re-entrenchment into Korean ethics and culture. Confucian values such as scholarship, merit, and artistry are promoted, and several academies and universities are built with many of the yangban elite partaking in education.
  • The Swiss Confederacy has had a small mass gaining to the army and nation as a whole. Their feudalism is becoming less feudalist over time, most warriors are now soldiers to the Confederacy. More and more each year, it seems the Swiss will change their politics, although, this will happen in decades from now most likely. Please give feedback on plausibility, mods.
We focus on the regions of Antemoro, Antandroy Sakalava and Mahafaly in Madagascar. A conquistador explored the interior of Madagascar and creates a map of the Island.
    • Swahili Diplomacy to Gurkani Sultanate: We send two sacks of gold for the printing press, which is then sent to the Madrassa of Mogadishu. We also offer a sample of the wares, as we wish to extend trade in the Gurkani Sultanate.
    • Swahili Diplomacy to Oman: We propose we split the Island of the Moon as of below.

    • Oman to Swahili: We propose an amendment to the map to better reflect our territorial claims in the interior.

  • Brandenburg-Luxembourg: The formal Education of the young Prince Freidrich-Wilhelm continues. with formal fighting training and education on history, literature, religious and ethical instruction,, and mathematics. Otto now entering the last stages of his life begins granting more administrative duties to his grand son the young Duke of Prussia Freidrich making him Regent of Brandenburg, Lorraine, and Luxembourg. Otto the younger passes away after years of illness much to the great sorrow of his father the Emperor and his son the Duke. Freidrich begins a policy of integration of his Grand father's domains with his own estates in Prussia preparing the way for the future PU. The Ducal army of Prussia is integrated into the the greater Brandenburgian forces and the economy is slowly integrated. Manorialism continues to grow at the expense of the older smaller feudal estates, and much of the lands are consilidated into larger Junker families under the auspicious patronage of the house of Brandenburg. Major efforts to increase the collection of works in the Brandenburg Archives are made and to expand the amount of professors, and lecturors, instructors from Bulgaria are invited to come and work in Brandenburg, several young Academics also decide to travel to Bulgaria to study with Royal sponsership. Expansion of the Use of Cannons in the armed forces is noted with the introduction of Bronze cannons, and more efficient Match lock arquebuses which start to make up entire unites in the Brandenburgian forces making the ratio of arqubusiers to 1/4th of the total forces usage of wheel lock muskets also begin though due to the expensive price of production not many are made. Luxembourg gun smithies begin tweeking with the design of the new weapon to find a better alternative.Centralization of military command from the nobility to the crown continues as benefits and royal duties are issued out to the nobility in exchange for the increased loss of military power, with many noble youth becoming new administrators and officers a more centralized state structure, while still retaining their feudal privledges over the peasants. The city of Berlin continues to grow with the influx of more nobles, artisans, engineers, and merchants leading to a very vibrant high society, with the Berlin Palace at the heart of it all. Efforts to start expanding the Palace begin. Freidrich and Otto in agreement declare that while Jager's thesises stand as heretical pieces of theology they raise valid points about the church, and ones that have been raised many times in the Brandenburg court debates. Otto as Emperor can not speak out publicly against the pope or the church nor can his heir Friedrich. However, they show a lot of sympathy toward the group being members of the Reformed Catholic Church. Otto calls upon the Pope, and the Primate to come to Berlin to discuss the matter further. Otto sends Freidrich to Sweden to try mediate the conflict with denmark and requests that the lands of Holstien be left outside, but he shares in a private message that Brandenburg would be willing to support Sweden fully in exchange for the Duchy of Holstein with heavy siege equipment and with the new model army, Freidrich is named nomial commander of the Brandenburg forces however he is acting on the advice of his aid Gustav von Wrangel a Prussian noble and captian of the Brandenburg Guard of his grandfather the emperor also leading to the placement of the 1,500 Red Guard (for the red lion of the house of Brandenburg, not a commie conspiracy, or is it ....) the most elite of the royal forces made up of the finest arquebusier's, pikemen and landsknecht. Otto offers the title of count to the aging Fugger in exchange for a loan to the Empire to develop institutions in a secret offer, as the Count of a secularized County of Augsburg though the process of securalization would require papal agreement.
    • Swedish diplomacy: We propose a treaty in order to declare on Denmark: The Duchy of Holstein shall be granted to the heir to Brandenburg as a holding and will be part of Scandinavia so long as he remains heir. After his ascension, a fee will be paid, recompensing the Empire for the loss.
    • Brandenburger Dip: Otto and Friedrich agree to the matter, with Freidrich being named the heir aparrent of Holstien upon the success of the war against Denmark. With that said Otto sends 20,000 troops to help with the war effort by invading Holstein and formally declares war on Denmark.
  • Sweden: With no response and information of a coup in Denmark and the killing of the entire royal family, King Karl declares war on Denmark definitely and asks Brandenburg and Norway to join. We move our 10,000 men onto Ahus in eastern Skane. We send a letter to the Archbishop of Lund and the Duke of Halland, asking them to join us in this campaign to overthrow the Danish pretender. (MOD response). We accept Jäger's request and send out to preach the new faith and prepare for a council of bishops to elect a Pope.
  • Kingdom of England and Ireland: The survivors of he Siege of Balloch Castle pull out of Scotland and England recognises this new guy called King James dominion over Scotland and insist that they take adequate protections to defend against all foreign threats. The King is very frustrated by the outcome of the war but does not wish to fight another with the quality and number of his troops. He first makes reforms to how troops are raised assigning 18 marshalling areas in England with each marshalling area having to provide 1,000 infantry and 350 cavalry. Each marshalling area has the main lords of England appointed as Marshal for example the Duke of Suffolk is marshal of Kent while the Duke of Lancaster is marshal of Northumbria. This is part for recruiting purposes but also in battle the Marshal selects the Colonels for his infantry and cavalry regiments which he has raised. There is also change in that all the units must be more standardised now, an infantry regiment should be a third Arqebus armed while the other two thirds should be all armed with pikes. The Arqebusiers are given little armour with mainly a helmet and some chest protection to defend against projectiles because the expectation is that when the enemy comes to close combat they should be behind the Pike lines, they are supposed to launch volley fire in 3 ranks with one kneeling and 2 standing until the enemy are near then they should fall back behind the Pikes. The Pikes are better armoured as they are expected to resist more cavalry attacks on defensive should do a 3 deep line while on the offensive they should form into their regiments of 500 and go in ranks of 50 deep and 100 wide. They are also taught how to do form whole regiment squares with their Arqebuisers in the middle of the square and the pikes kneeling allowing the Arqebuisers to shoot. For cavalry they are still given a lot more freedom with armour and weaponry and are used as heavy cavalry rather than light. They are expected to be held behind the main line while keeping scouts on the flanks and to be used in the event of a breakthrough in either English or enemy lines in an arrowhead formation. Meanwhile the King orders the construction of some 50 culverins and the ability to fire both grapeshot and conventional shot. While work is done on building bombards to act as siege weapons. It is still up to the individual marshals to call and assemble troops keeping the nobility in the loop on armies. In the penal colony of Avalon the colony harbours another winter well this year with their tough buildings acting to keep out the cold and their trading with the natives, own growing and supplies from the England keeping them fed. In June 225 new colonists arrive with 125 of them being English women to marry the current guards while another 100 being the first Welsh convicts. These are 50 new young welsh couples looking for land to live on and the King desperate to try and stop the welsh problem from turning Scottish moves them to Avalon. These 225 new colonists need to build their own houses and clear space for them to grow their own crops. Which they do in time for October to start farming while the harvest goes well.
  • Bulgarian Empire: Tsar Boris at the age of 27 along side his wife have their first Child, He is named in a mixed Bulgar Vlach fashion as Andrei Kaloyan of the Dracultesti-Asen dynasty. The very prominent mixing of the bloods between Vlachs and Bulgars has no seen it brought about in two separate royal marriages between mixed blood Vlach-Bulgars. This is immediately recognized by Boris as a champion call as he tours the Province of Vlach and announces Tirgoviste to be the established capital of the province. The Bulgarian population of the area is noted to be significant with the vast majority of Bulgarias population growth taking place in the Balkan river valley and the province of Vlach with lesser growth in Thrace and Macedonia. The Tsar sees it necessary to establish 2 more legions. The 5th and 6th Legions are constituted and sent to Kosovo, and Albania acting as the garrisons for the area. This marks the noticeable increase of troops in the southern half of the empire with the majority being in the minority based territories in the south and south west. The Serbians while small in Number however prove to be an effective and well based fighting force which allows their small manpower component to form the basis of their own units within the 5th and 6th legions including officer positions. This generally sees the Serbians start to become a more accepted and open part of the Bulgarian Empire. The Tsar officially announces the completion of the Grant fortress of Gallipoli guarding the black and Aegean sea. The Ecumenical Patriarch Konstantov while old, remains potent in his position but sees unrest and even some copies of the Theses brought back he deliberates on his going forward in church function in the next few years.
  • Papal States: The Papal Curia is in something of a commotion this year given the events in the North. Having communicated with the Archbishop of Cologne, the Pope and Curia realise that the Inquisition misunderstood Jaeger's comments regarding the Papacy, and that he actually meant that he wanted a Reformed bishop to have the ability to become Pope. This issue splits Rome, with some arguing that since the Pope is Patriarch of the West and bishop of the latin-Rite diocese of Rome, only a Latin could be elected. Others argue that since the Pope is shepherd over all the Rites, and can conduct mass in whatever Rite he chooses, he could theoretically come from any Rite. Pope Leo X himself has not commented publicly on the matter, as he is growing increasingly old and frail. His Holiness writes to Brandenburg, apologising that he cannot travel to Brandenburg given his decrepitude [he'll be dead early next year anyway]. However in his letter, Pope Leo tells the Emperor that given the increasingly loud disagreements over some issues of governance, faith, and the relative positions of the Rites, he plans on calling an Ecumenical Council. [Nk, pls hold the next Pope to this in-game]. Meanwhile Sweden is politely asked to hand Jaeger over to face a Court, or at the very least to stop him from printing his explicitly heretical writings (i.e. those about there only being two sacraments and indulgences being pointless, the others aren't heretical). In other news, Superior-General Ignazio d'Iasso of the Immaculata, seeing the confusion reigning in Europe, puts off his plans to travel to the Holy Land indefinitely, considering that perhaps Europe has a greater need for his Order's activities.
  • Bahmani Sultanate: 80,000 men under Kunwar Menon are sent north to assist Delhi, and he advises the Sultan to fall back so that forces from all the Indian states can cooperate. (OOC: I dunno why LM isn't posting, but he did put a treaty to end the war w/the Majas (and it being rather generous terms w/a 1600% victory, could a mod sign for the Majas?) Considering the ridiculous amount of score difference, this turn will be considered the last of that war.) The troops begin to return home from the east. Back east, trouble begins when clashes between Burgundians and Bengalis start in the Nicobars. Navid Shah, however negociates a solution known as the Andaman Accords: All of the Nicobars south of OTL's Sombrero Channel are leased to Burgundy for 250 years, and they receive a trading post at Kolon-Thota, as well as a preferential Tier V tariff rate. (OOC: I already agreed w/IATG and LM on this.)
    • Pegu: Dhammazedi's brillance has won the war against Majapahit. Always eager for battle, he rushes back to Delhi on the fastest ship he can find.
    • Maldives: Nothing of note.
    • The war is far from over period, you have won just a few battles not the war, there is no treaty yet -Feyd
  • Delhi Sultanate: 400,000 troops are mobilized to face off the Khans in the Kashmir Valley, while another 15,000 are sent to the Majapahit. Around 500 ships are also sent southeast to finish off our old rival once and for all. Despite his strong alliances with his Muslim brothers, Sultan Harshal remains worried about what these wars may do to his people and his country; however, the tension eases when the news of Gurkani's invasion of the Tseteg heartland reaches the camp in Bhubaneswar (OOC: This is where he fled to a few years ago after becoming worried about instability in eastern India). All he can do now is wait and see what happens...
    • The Vassals: Tensions remain high in Ladakh due to their proximity of the battles. Himalaya sees refugees from eastern parts of the Sultanate settling here or passing through on their way to Tibet. Further south, Marwar and Mewar prepare for war, while keeping a close eye on the Rajputs, fearing another revolt.
    • Upon receiving word of Gurkani treachery, Tsetseg Khan asks for a meeting with the Sultan of Delhi so that they may combine forces and invade the Gurkani Sultate, who has not only betrayed Delhi, but now he has betrayed the Khan too. Together they can crush the treacherous Gurkani. -scraw
    • Delhavi diplomacy: Sultan Harshal can't help but laugh at the offer, realizing that the Gurkanis had planned this all along. He also points out that the Gurkanis have been a faithful ally much longer than the Khans would ever be, and that Tseteg's own ambitions got him in such as sticky situation in the first place. Bottom line, the Delhi Sultanate refuses.
    • Tsetseg Khan is glad to hear it and proclaims that for whatever land the Gurkani take, he will capture double in Dehlavi territory. He commits his entire army to conquering Delhi. -scraw
  • Mayapan: Trade continues with the Mexica and the Iberian colonies.
  • Oman: Having captured the largest pirate stronghold, the fleet returns to Oman. King Suleiman condemns the Indian war against the Majapahit, and refuses to support it. Oman secretly offers to sell matchlock and wheellock designs to the Majapahit (Mod Response). A fort is built on Dina Morgabin. 19 ships are built this year.
    • Vohemar: The colony expands along the eastern river routes and the interior. Coastal settlements are also built in the southeast of the island. Vohemar is expected to control most of the eastern half of the island by 1520, aided by the arrival of new slaves and the discovery of faster routes through the interior. Governor Musaaid sends missionaries to the neighboring tribes to convert them to Ibadi Islam. The Merina remain the dominant native power on the Island of the Moon, and continue to wage war against the southern tribes; often spilling over into Omani territory and Swahili claims. A gift of matchlocks is delivered to Imerina to assist them in their conquests, as part of an effort to block Swahili expansion in the south.

  • France continues to expand its navy and re-affirms its alliance with Portugal
  • Emirate of the Ottomans: Suleiman begins to work on modernizing the army and amassing the people to a more Pro War type people, the slaves from africa are sent to mosques and citites to work on improving things.  Suleiman renmaes the state to a Emritate (but it's just a name change and nothing happens). We ask the Gurkia State if we can buy their mondern weaponry. Suleiman is seen as a strong man as he begins to work on the nation military might. Suleiman begins to work on uniting people via religion and creating a stronghold in Anatolia. The Sultan ask the Caliphate and the Gurkhni state if they can sell arms. We begin to send envoys to OMan to open trade.
    • Why are you an Emirate? -scraw
  • France continues to expand its navy and re-affirms its alliance with Portugal
  • Sultanate of Bengal: 20 more ships are built, and work continues on the fortifications of Saptagram. Celebrations are held after news arrives of the decisive defeat of Majapahit. To thank the Sultan, Sikandar Shah III, he is given the title "the Destroyer of Majapahit". In another tone, the 30,000 Bengali troops in Delhi are given the go-ahead to engage the forces of the Khans. The Sultan orders a further 100,000 men to be mobilized to combat the threat of the Khans. A trade deal is also conducted with Burgundy, allowing them a 250 year lease on the islands south of the Sombrero Channel that are in the Andaman and Nicobar island chain.
