Flavivs Marcivs was next appointed Cæsar at 64. He was a valiant soldier from Illyria and against the Huns he had risen high in rank for the ten years he spent fighting. Attila the Hun had kept much of his tribal submissioners compliant through heaps of wealth he had stolen from non-compliant cities both Barbarian and Roman. Marcivs immediately led a huge force into the Scythian wilderness tasked only with retrieving these riches. Marcivs' armies relied more on speed and maneuverability, taking Attila’s military ingenuity and making it his own. For the first time a Roman military strike would be done without any infantry aside from the basic civilian aides (doctors, horse trainers/caretakers). Marcivs made sure the 6000 Sagittarii (horse archers) and light Equitatvs were the best of the whole Empire, most did not come from Italia. The Equites Legionis were broken up into six cohortes and raided the villages of Attila’s previous allies. After just a year, about a third of the estimated wealth stolen by Attila was recovered and many barbarian villages and farmlands were razed, salted, and slaughtered. Marcivs deemed this enough and returned with his troops-no territory was gained. The barbarian kingdoms, now in extreme poverty and suffering from famines and almost non-existent morale, collapsed back into tribes; allowing for a relatively quiet European border for Rome.

Marcivs made cavalry much more important in the Roman military but he did not gain much popularity for sneaking around barbarian kingdoms at night.

He wanted to make sure the hard earned wealth was not squandered so he reformed the Imperium’s finances, corrected extravagance, and also repopulated Dacia and Germania - further ensuring their continued romanisation. In 1209(456) he crushed an Armenian rebellion. He also made efforts to mediate the theological stresses the Empire was feeling between the many cults going in and out of popularity. Marcivs died at 67 in 1210(457) without adding any senatorials, he was remembered as a strong willed leader very vindictive and cruel to his enemies.

Flavivs Leo was then appointed at 56; born in Thracia. His 17 year reign was not very important. Putting down rebellions, encouraging trade and prosperity.
