Flavivs Ivlianvs was appointed next. Fudging slightly the laws of succession, the Senate allowed Constantine’s half brother to rule in hopes he would have the energy of Constantine to retain the empire. Born in Byzentium and now at 21, Ivlianvs was a proud product of Vaspasian’s and Antonivs’ schools. He had finally gotten fed up with the inefficiency of Roman numerals and declared Arabic numerals to be the numbers of science and math. Since really only those who would welcome such a simplification worked in those fields, little opposition was encountered. Arabic numbers were to math and science as Greek was to poetry and philosophy.
Ivlianvs did not find controlling the Empire easy, but managed to dispense his stress in a number of humerous books including ‘Misopogon’ (Beard Hater), ‘Hymn to Lvcinivs’, ‘Ode to Mine Half-brother Who was so Kind as to Pile This Empire of Very Strong and Heavy Rock upon Me’, ‘The Masses’, and ‘Against Barbarians’ They were popular.
Ivlianvs also restored Belgica(60 years under military governmors) and Aegyptus(55 years) to Senatorship in 1109(356) as well as giving Dalmatia a senatorial seat in 1113(360). Also that year, the stirrup for the horse was invented by an ADA in Asia province, making horses easier to get on, off and direct. The next 46 years were stable for the Empire. In 1126(373) an ADA in Greece developed Greek Fire. It was very vulnerable but more research went into making it safer to use and easier to transport. In 1153(400) Ivlianvs passed an amendment to Caricus’ Constitution of citizenship to include all freemen, whether born so or not. Ivlianvs died in 1159(406) at 75.
