Hi, I am new to this site, as a fan of American politics and Alternate History, I decided to join. As my 1st TL, I was going to have it start with Teddy Roosevelt somehow win the 1912 Presidential Election as a Progressive, and get killed before inauguration day, thus leading to President Hiram Johnson (and Vice President John Weeks). I am planning on Johnson working on creating some social programs (for economics only, no womens' suffrage or anything under him), that MAY get some Democrats (Populists like Wilson and Bryan) to vote for it, but they are likely to fail. Since I doubt Johnson is a war lover like TR, I doubt he joins WWI (I plan on it still happening) right away in 1914.

I plan on Johnson winning the 1916 elections against Marshall, either option on WWI he picks. If I pick Johnson on an anti-war platform, he'll pull a Wilson and come in on The Allies late, much like OTL. This causes a weak Progressive Party (The Conservative-led Republican Party is likely to die out in my TL quickly.) in the 1920 elections, an isolationist backlash, and a Populist Democrat wins the election. I may have a William McAdoo elected to a political officer earlier be elected, but I am not sure of all of my options as of this time.

Some key questions I need to be answered before I make this TL.

1. Which would be better to assassinate Roosevelt with? I'd rather him be killed by an assassin rather than an accident, especially a foreigner, just to make it interesting. (Any good candidates? I would prefer a Latin America or European to do the deed.) 2. If Johnson became President in 1913, if Roosevelt is killed by a foreigner, does this start a war or a international conflict? If the Assassin is from a country involved in WWI, could this trigger U.S. Entry in 1914? 3. With the Presidency under Hiram Johnson, assuming The Allies still win, how does Versailles go? (assuming no belligerents are changed.) 4. Which Democrat would be a good choice for winning the 1920 elections? I plan on the US prospering like OTL until 1929, when The Great Depression hits. (I will most likely have a Progressive or Republican in power during then, I have a desire to use Huey Long as President in 1936, 1932 if I have to.)

Any tips, sources, etc., would also be nice. Thank you for your time.

Woah sounds sort of similar to my time line Progressive USA. Still a great idea though. I'd think that Roosevelt was a fairly popular guy and you could maybe even have the USA join on the side of the central powers from this if the assassin is from the UK,France or Russia. Yeah, No intentions to plagiarize or anything, but the US does not stay Progressive. (In fact, The US turns into more of a Statist nation, Since The US Enters WWI, there is an isolationist and Democratic Surge.) I could have the assassin Russian, and that sways The US to The CP. (If that is so, I will make the CP win and plan on making a new world map.) Yes, thank you for the references, even though I have been there before. I'll look at your timeline, it may help me get some ideas for President Hiram Johnson's term. --Long_Populist
